Walking into Cookiehead Bakery at 7:30 PM felt like entering a business that had already given up on itself. The sign says they're open until 10 PM, which apparently is more of a philosophical concept than an actual operating hour. Inside, it was so dim and lifeless that I genuinely questioned whether I was trespassing. No one at the counter. No sound from the back. No sign of human life at all. If a tumbleweed had rolled past the cookie case, it honestly would have fit the mood. And that cookie case? It looked less like a bakery display and more like the aftermath of a clearance sale nobody cared enough to restock. I stood there long enough to go through the full emotional journey from hopeful dessert run to "should I call someone to report this place missing?" before an employee finally appeared out of nowhere like they'd been summoned by confusion itself. Now, maybe I'm being a little harsh, but the vibe was unmistakable: I was interrupting absolutely nothing, and somehow still felt unwelcome. So I did the safe thing and ordered the chocolate chip, figuring if your signature cookie can't deliver, what are we even doing here? A cookie eventually appeared, and after all the suspense, mystery, and accidental haunted-house atmosphere, the payoff was... fine. Better than a gas station cookie, sure, but that is such a low bar it's basically underground. At these prices, I'm expecting bakery magic, not "slightly upgraded convenience store." Ordered these cookies from delivery and they were so delicious I got the Cookie Monster, the original 1931 chocolate chip and dirt cup. My favorite was the Cookie Monster which was stuffed with a chocolate chip cookie. I also loved the dirt cake which was smothered in chocolate pudding. I happen to enjoy these cookies more than other popular cookie places they aren't overly sweet and they taste just more real. I don't know how else to explain it. As the name states, this recipe has been in Gary's family since 1931 and it is ammmmaaaaazzzzziiing! It has 3 different types of chocolate chips, it's large, chewy and with the right amount of crunch. The dough for foundation is phenomenal as well. It is my favorite cookie on their menu. Absolutely delicious! I might go as far to say it's the best chocolate chip cookie In Broward right now. The cold brew is from Fort Lauderdale Wells coffee and the owners put a special spin on it that makes the pour look like a stout beer. It's smooth and can be easily sipped black just the way I like it. Did I mentioned that the owner Gary (who I had the pleasure of meeting once) is a super nice, gregarious guy? Cookiehead Bakery recently opened in the Royal Eagle Plaza in Coral Springs, a few doors down from an Aldi's I like to frequent. It was opened by owners Margie and Gary Schwartzberg who took their popular Bagelmania from Brooklyn to South Florida in 1978. The idea for Cookiehead came from the couples grandchildren who loved their family cookie recipes. I stopped in before a recent grocery shopping trip and was impressed with how cute it is inside. A screen projects a Cookiehead cartoon and the walls are decorated like the board game Candyland. On the counter is a display of all of the cookies they have available including a seasonal flavor that changes. Top sellers include the traditional 1931 Chocolate Chip developed by Gary's father and the Funfetti Sugar Cookie. I ordered the Chocolate Covered Strawberry and the 1931 Chocolate Chip. The strawberry cookie was cakey and the chocolate chip was crisp and loaded with different kinds of chocolate. Both were way too big to eat in one sitting and I cut them up. I also got one of their classic white Wizard's Magical Nitro Brews. It was super smooth and delicious. I appreciated that they made it with oat milk, a naturally sweet and creamy alternative to dairy. There was a 60 cent upcharge for the oat milk. The coffee and two cookies and a tip came close to $20. Expensive but in line with other gourmet cookie shops I have tried. It is not an everyday treat but worth it for a splurge. This gentlemen designed each on a LazySusan in front of me, and started with a basic cookie base. Each appeared unique but matching to the display and offering. Pretty sure the wife and teens will destroy these rather quickly. We thought all flavors were different overall. Slightly less sweet than their competitor (good thing). Cookiehead is highly branded cookie shop in a strip mall/plaza. Much about their setup will remind you of CRUMBL. They have a cartoon vibe, which makes it fun and unique, and as my oldest daughter describes as on the "creepy" side. The whole doll thing I think, but either way, it is unique and I think fun. Cookies are a bit expensive, and seems silly that they will charge you if you need an extra box. Our cookies were prepared with the icing and toppings in the box, which seemed a bit strange. The marshmallows on the cartoon character themed "Scorch's" Smores cookie actually caught on fire when being torched. This was an avalanche of errors. Problem 1: the server blew out the fire on our cookie. Problem 2: the torch melted the icing on our neighboring cookies. Problem one was just gross and I hygienic. Problem two made the cookies look a bit messy. At this point their rating was in major trouble. We were ready to head to CRUMBL and never return. All the above considered, didn't matter because the cookies were delicious! They had a nice little crisp to the outside edges, but were still chewy on the inside.
