Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

The cookies-and-cream scone made for a great breakfast, the owners were incredibly friendly, and they even sell used kids' books for 50 cents. If I lived nearby, I'd probably set up my laptop there for remote work and slowly make my way through the rest of the menu. Shoutout to 21st Amendment Creamery and Bakery.

It was really hard for me to choose what to get, but I went with coffee cake (after looking at other reviews), blueberry and cheese danish, cookies and cream scone and a carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese frosting. So far I've only eaten the coffee cake while I've been enjoying the outdoor seating area and the ambience and the coffee & coffee cake were enough to make me want to leave a solid review!! Everything is affordable and I can't remember the last time I truly felt that way in recent times. Come support this local business and feel the value of your dollar for yourself and your community. They have lots of board games inside and books for sale, some for only 50 cents! I can't wait to come back with my kids for their ice cream and check out one of their trivia nights. They said they post their events on instagram! I am so pleased!! Love a good local business!! It makes my heart happy!! We have enough soulless corporations and chains

I am obsessed with sweets but I'm picky. A good cinnamon roll or a slice of cake can cure *almost* anything, in my eyes. A few days before the event, I called to order an 8-inch cake and was originally told I could order one and when I called back to put the order in I was told they couldn't make one because they had already baked several 6-inch and 7-inch cakes and needed to sell those first. They suggested purchasing a 7-inch cake along with cupcakes to ensure there was enough for everyone, which seemed reasonable, so we went ahead with their recommendation. We requested pastel decorations and birthday writing for the occasion, paid in advance, and arranged for pickup around 3:00 p.m. on the day of our 4:00 p.m. party. Unfortunately, when my sister arrived around 3:30 p.m., the cake still wasn't ready, causing a significant delay. She eventually received the cake and cupcakes and rushed back to our cabin, arriving late to the surprise party. Shortly after she got back, the bakery called me and informed us that they had accidentally given her the wrong cake and asked us to return it. The cake she received was beautiful, decorated with flowers and a lavender drip design, but it was the wrong flavor and a smaller size than what we had ordered. We were then told that our actual cake was still at the bakery, but it was completely plain white, with none of the pastel decorations or writing we had requested. At that point, the party had already started, and instead of greeting family and friends who had traveled from Los Angeles for this special occasion, we were dealing with a very stressful cake situation. To their credit, the bakery was kind and tried to make things right. They allowed us to keep the cake we had received and delivered additional cupcakes to compensate for the smaller size. Most importantly, every single dessert was delicious. The cake was moist, the cupcakes were fantastic, and everyone enjoyed them. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of communication and apparent miscommunication among staff, which created a lot of unnecessary stress during a milestone celebration. The baked goods themselves were excellent, but I hope they can improve their organization and order management because the quality of their products truly deserves it.

I unfortunately had to have a c-section which wasn't in my birth plan but the midwife was very supportive and reassuring. The only complaint I have was that my mental health didn't seem to be taken as seriously as my physical health. I had over 4 scheduled appointments to talk to the counselor and was finally seen a week before giving birth. I'm sure this is due to the amount on panicked mamas during this pandemic though so I'm not too offended by it.
