Communications and personnel were friendly, professional and took their time to explain all features and possible confusions on how the unit worked (temperature range variances, etc). Electrician was coordinated and paid through company, but option was available to use my own contractor for the electrical portion of the install. Contacted Cool Atmosphere Heating & Air for a free, 2nd opinion. Another company had"diagnosed" an air handler & duct system problem they would repair for $1700. Thomas from Cool Atmosphere investigated and found nothing wrong with our system. We kept his business card. Months later when another HVAC unit stopped cooling, we called Cool Atmosphere, requested Thomas, who came out the next day and diagnosed the problem quickly, gave a reasonable estimate and repaired the old 2009 Goodman unit at that same time. CA told me all three of our run capacitors were weak and we needed to change them. ($800)I had someone else check them and they said they were all ok and didn't really need to be changed. Cool Atmospheres is a husband and wife duo that are honest, reliable, and reasonable. I've been using them for the past 2 years for my rental and home units. Each time I have a need I'm just so grateful they are still available. The owner Nick takes the time to educate and explain your options and their costs. I've never once felt like I was being up sold, and I always appreciate when he shares the smaller maintenance items we can take care of ourselves. I'm writing this over due review due to Nick's recent help. Our home system was tripping a breaker and shutting down. After thorough review, Nick explained the system was testing fine and it was likely the electrical breaker failing. He then went above and beyond and took a look at the breaker and also showed us how we could easily replace it ourselves. Had it been anyone else, I wouldn't have trusted the issue was not with the AC or other service providers may have tried other unnecessary repairs to the system. Well, he was right! I have continued to use Cool Atmosphere since my original review. In 2016, I had a problem and they came out and fixed a part in the AC quickly for a good price. In 2017, I had them come to an annual check on the system and all was in good order. Their service is prompt, pricing fair and the service men are always pleasant as well. Emergency service was right away a good thing. However charging a emergency fee $125, then $240 for a $25 start cap is really bad form. Have worked with Big Tex for years - the new management has a charge what the market will bear attitude. This is an unethical level of cost and prays on people who don't understand there are others who behave well. read more

My Central AC unit was freezing up, I called Big-TEX HVAC and they sent someone from Cool Atmosphere, He recommended a full upgrade for my central AC, without even popping the cover off of the evaporator, ran a pressure check on the FROZEN unit (a big no no, this leads to false readings! He told me he could 'charge' it but it would run $500 and no guarantees could be made. He had his sales guy call me (I never returned the call) but call another AC guy out, Once he saw how quickly the AC unit froze up,he knew the problem was with a $10 relay, he replaced the relay, checked the freon pressure and found them to be good. Basically Cool Atmosphere is in the business of replacing HVAC, NOT in the business of repairing HVAC. STEER CLEAR of these folks, they will ROB you blind! read more

I used this AC company once before a couple years ago and wasn't super impressed with the service. Our AC went out last Tuesday 6/11 so I thought I'd give them a second chance because I like to support local businesses and they advertise a $0 service call fee for BHC residents. I had my wife call to set up an appointment and she ended up leaving 2 messages that same day. It's now nearly a week later, in the 90's outside, and no one ever had the decency to call us back. I hate giving 5 stars to a business because y'all think that I got paid to do it. Well with that said we are very satisfied with the company and level of service. First of all Nick was great, after hearing how long we had the unit he asked me to verify that the system was out of warranty before I spend my own money. Needless to say I had a crappy 1 yr warranty with a builder's company that was up. Second his tech Dan took care of business and unclogged the drain, checked the system, and gave me a couple tips to keep the unit working in top form. We were in the process of selling our house and had a few things come up with the buyer's inspection on our A/C. Some very confusing terms and "problems" that had to be addressed. We contacted Cool Atmosphere and gave them the info over the phone and they knew right away what was being called out. They came out a few days later and took care of all of it at a very reasonable price. The technician was courteous and clearly knew what he was doing as he was able to explain the minor issues to my wife so clearly that she was able to explain them to me later (amazing). After my experience and the reviews of others, I see no reason to go elsewhere next time I need any work done. My air conditioner quit cooling on Labor Day weekend, four weeks after Big Tex (aka Cool Atmosphere) had just replaced my evaporative coil. I was charged $125 for a "weekend" service call - understandable and expected - but the technician also charged me $185 for a new pole contactor, which I later discovered can be purchased online for $8.42. I asked why my contactor needed replacing, and the service tech said that it (and the wiring) was burnt, most likely from a brown out or power surge. I'm wondering how this could have occurred, since I have a whole house surge protector on my breaker box. Also, before coming out, the tech insisted that my a/c not cooling was most likely due to a plugged drain. I have a maintenance contract with Big Tex and my system is inspected and maintained twice a year by them. One would assume a clogged drain would have been noticed and corrected during the last maintenance call. Regardless, the tech kept pressing this notion of a plugged drain until I insisted that he come to check out my system and get it cooling again, regardless of the issue. After this whole experience, I will not be renewing my maintenance contract with them and in the future, use someone else for my HVAC needs. After all, I can be charged a huge mark up on parts by anyone, so why go back to Cool Atmosphere? read more

We have been very happy clients of Cool Atmosphere since they were once called Big Tex. They did the AC in a home we lived in for over 12 years and did not experience one single issue in 12 years. After the system needed replacing they came out and did a stellar job. Once we moved into a new home, the builder had used a different AC company and there were some issues. The techs that came out (4 different times) knew literally nothing about our issues. Our AC went out at the house late yesterday afternoon. I called and spoke with someone today who said they could get a technician out at sometime today, but they couldn't give me a window as I would be a fill in on such short notice. I said I will take their visit at any time. At 2:30, their technician rang the door bell. He quickly went to the outside air handler, took off a cover and said the capacitor was bad. He showed me the tell tale signs of the blown capacitor. He went to his truck, found a replacement sized capacitor and installed it. I turned the AC back on in the house, and it worked! My hats off to them squeezing me in, and getting my air fixed within one day. I know this is a busy time of year, but they will be receiving all my referrals from this point on. read more

Our AC has went out time and time again, but at LEAST when it was covered under the warranty they would come out eventually to fix it. We just had a major leak in our ceiling not even 4/5 months ago, and they admitted it was their fault that it happened. Howdy! I have used Cool Atmosphere on two separate occasions, both system replacements (one upstairs, one downstairs) and can recommend them for your AC needs. I am responsible for taking care of my friends home, who is with the Army in Germany, and as luck would have it, both heat pumps went out within a couple of years of each other. I had the 2nd unit replaced in August of 2015. Just like before, their price was fair, they communicated well - every step of the way, and cared to make sure the install was done properly. I'm not the type of person who expects perfection in all things, but they exceeded my expectations for both installs. It's a nice feeling to know you can get your AC/Heater fixed quickly, for a fair price, and without a big headache. Usually when something like that breaks you tend to freak out and not know who to call, how long it will take, and if you'll get taken for a ride. When our heater wouldn't turn on we knew to call Cool Atmosphere since they took such good care of us with our AC unit last summer. Nick was at our place in an hour (we happen to live in the same neighborhood). He had our ignitor replaced in about 15 minutes and it didn't cost much at all. He squeezed us in on a Saturday between his hunting trip and volunteering at church. This husband/wife team really goes above and beyond. We just had this company come out on Monday and the tech said we needed a new motor for the blower on our unit. They quoted us $1400 then turned around and charged us another $79.50 for the call and did nothing. We ended up calling another local company and they came the next day and replaced it in 2 hours and charged us only $433. This company rips off it's customers by overcharging as that's $1000 difference they were just gonna pocket and they gave us the run around. Do your research and check around as this company way overcharges thinking you will just pay if your desperate. I am so happy we called another company and saved ourselves from being ripped off. Not sure why I have a pop up to review this company but here it goes, cool atmosphere posted something about a free check up on units so I called to schedule an appt for someone to come out and see why our unit was leaking... We already had an idea and my husband already purchased drops for a clog.... When a service tech arrived he said he would go up and look into it..... Well 20 min later he said he was done and handed me a bill for $125!!!! I asked what he did and he said that be blew air in the line and dropped in some of the tablets that my husband purchased....I was pissed because instead of his coming to me and telling me what the problem was and and asking if we would like it fixed for $125 he took it upon himself to make the decision for us and stuck us with a bill.... If he would have let us know what was going on I would have told him my husband would blow the line himself, we just wanted him To come out and give us confirmation there was no serious issue other than what we already suspected... Needless to say we were stuck with a bill and had to pay it... I wish I could have my $$$ back ... What a way to rip someone off!!!!! read more
