Whether it's workday daycare or a week of boarding, the dogs are always excited to get there and happily exhausted when their stay is done. Meeting the owner and the awesome staff, it's clear that this isn't your average board 'em and charge 'em affair. These folks care about the dogs, care about pet owners, care about their employees and take pride in their facility. Fortunate to live close to their facility and I need to do my dogs a solid and get them in for daycare more often than we have. As far as boarding them for a week+, we won't even consider an alternative facility. There's never any doubt that the dogs are being looked after, cared for, loved on, trained, groomed (if needed) and, just as importantly, having a heck of a good time. Thanks, Woofy!

Fortunately an acquaintance uses Happy Camper for her dogs and highly recommended them. After calls to other places and to Happy Camper it was clear Happy Camper would be the best place for my 15-year-old baby girl. That all the forms and sending documents could be done electronically was beyond fantastic. My Couscous came home, happy, healthy, and relaxed -- and maybe a little disappointed she wasn't still there. I recently had to go back into the hospital so again needed to board Couscous again with no planning time. Happy Camper welcomed her. I think the best thing a dog parent can hear about a place is what their dog says: As Couscous realized where she was going, she got excited and wagged all her rear body parts in excitement.

By the end of the week they had him on a schedule, walking 3 times a week for a half hour, to train him to walk on a leash. Once he can do that (which may take a while, he's hard-headed :)) he is going to go on adventure walks with them, which are basically long hikes with 2-3 dogs at a time, that completely tire your pooch out. I have two walkers that work with my dog, and they are both awesome. They send me an email after every walk, with pictures of my dog and a progress report of how he's doing. They also are bonded and insured, and offer to keep keys to the house so they can come in while you are at work and exercise the pooch. And get this- it's $20 for the walk... and $5 for every extra 15 mins! And that is for one or two dogs... very reasonable. So much so that I can definitely afford the 3 days a week walking, and seeing my puppy so happy at the end of the day is worth it. Love these guys.

Unfortunately, my 3 boys (Ozzy, Tyler, and Bono) have since passed away, but my 2 new pups (Cannon and Hollywood) are still regular adventurers. They get to go hiking and swimming with Marti every couple of weeks - with Cannon generally finding some enormous stick or piece of trash to keep him entertained and Holly swimming laps in the river and playing chase with other dogs. They always come home happy and tired. There is a review posted from someone named "Matin" (which I assume is made up as it is a brand new account and contains false information) that says someone from Richmond Boxer Rescue steered him away from CA. I am the founder and president of RBR and a loyal client for almost 10 years now. Many of my fosters and volunteers use them and love them as well. NO ONE from my organization knows who this person is or said anything negative about CA, so that is a blatant lie. Review from 2010: I cannot say enough good things about Josh and Canine Adventure! Aside from actually being able to sometimes make my boxer, Ozzy, slightly tired (a nearly impossible feat), Josh was always reliable, responsible and ended up being a good friend! My own dogs (Ozzy, Tyler and Bono) were lucky to get Adventure Walks with him every week! The highlight of their week was seeing Josh pull up in front of the house! In addition to working with my own dogs, Josh graciously worked with my many fosters through Richmond Boxer Rescue. He donates his time to several other local rescue groups as well. The walks and training were an invaluable asset to the foster dogs as were the AMAZING photos he would take on the walks! We moved to the west coast but would still be loyal clients if we were in Richmond! I so wish there were a service like this available here!

When I was…read morediagnosed with breast cancer and going through treatment, I was worried about how I would manage everything since I live alone, including caring for my dog, Franklin. The team stepped in to help make sure he could still get to daycare by arranging pickups and drop-offs. But what meant even more was their compassion. They checked in on me and even offered help with things that had nothing to do with daycare -- simply because they cared. They even sent Franklin home with a complimentary bath and made sure he got plenty of love and snuggles while he was there. Franklin absolutely loves going to daycare there, and I am deeply grateful for the support they showed during one of the hardest times in my life. If you are looking for a place that truly loves animals *and* the people who love them, this is it.

I used to take my dog to the small dog location of Dog Services for grooming, but the last time I…read morehad her groomed there, but when I got her home I noticed that she was bleeding. I called immediately and spoke with the manager, and she acted like it was no big deal. The straw that broke the camel's back was that the manager actually blamed my dog for the "accident." I understand that accidents happen, but my main issue was that they knew what had happened and didn't even bother to tell me about it. Additionally, the place reeked of urine, which made me feel like the place was extremely unsanitary! If you are looking for a place to have your dog groomed, I recommend Holiday Barn. The staff there is extremely friendly, they do excellent work, and the place was spotless. I also boarded my dogs there, and if you pay a little extra your dog is kept in it's own room with a television turned to Animal Planet, which was important to me because I hated the idea of my dogs being kept in a cage.

I had seen the negative postings about the staff on Google, but I had never experienced it first-hand until last week. Whomever they have put at their front desk is one of the most rude, pig-headed, unprofessional individuals I've ever had the misfortune of speaking with. I called earlier last week to try to get a check up for a cat I was fostering. We thought she might be in heat, so I had a pretty long conversation with the receptionist about not getting her spayed immediately but still wanting to get her checked out so I could introduce her to my other cats. I was told that they could see us that Thursday at 4:45pm. I told them that I couldn't bring the cat in, but my son would be able to make the appointment. Because I'd only given my name when they first answered the phone, I even said before I hung up, "so we will see you on Thursday at 4:45, right?" That Thursday my son took the cat to Brook Run and was told there was no appointment on the books. When I called to try to get it straightened out, the receptionist told me that we had not made an appointment! If we had, then we'd "be in the system". I explained that our family uses Brook Run but this was a new foster, so she wouldn't be in the system. Her response to that was they "always" put the animals in the system when they make the appointment. Well obviously, they DON'T always put them in the system because someone screwed up. They didn't make any effort to fit us in and acted like we were trying to scam them with a walk in. There was no apology. The only thing they did offer was to make another appointment for next Wednesday. (I wanted to point out that we already had an appointment, but they wouldn't see us!) I was so furious by the front desk's presumptuous nasty attitude that I declined and hung up. Part of me wanted to give them another chance because Dr. Z has been such a great vet, but how do I know that this won't happen again? It was an inconvenience for my son, but he was willing to let it slide. (He took off from work early.) All they had to do was apologize for the mistake. Even if they couldn't fit us in, I would have been ticked off but not so angry that I'd go elsewhere. Instead, they implied that we were being nefarious and somehow tried to skirt the system. Why on earth would anyone subject themselves to that kind of dismissive and disrespectful treatment again? Totally infuriating!!!
