DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!!! The previous homeowners used Cool Effects by Larry to install the current AC when it went out prior to us buying the home. Shortly after purchasing the home, the AC went out again so we used our American Home Shield (AHS) warranty to have someone come out and repair the unit. They sent out another company and they diagnosed the problem and said that the drier filter was installed backwards and the coil went bad so they would need to order parts. I never saw them again and when I contacted them they said they weren't going to do the repair because the drier filter being installed backwards voided the AHS warranty and I would have to pay out of pocket. They recommended that I get the people who installed it incorrectly to come fix it. So I called Larry and they came out. After he arrived his crew inspected the system and he approached me with some pictures he had taken of the filter drier and said the label that shows the direction the drier should face, had been tampered with and in fact the filter drier was installed correctly, but to him it looks like someone peeled it off and put it back on backwards. Riiiight. Then he told me that it doesn't matter what direction it was put on it shouldn't affect anything. Riiight. So if it doesn't matter, then why make up a story about someone tampering with the label and why did it void my warranty? I should have acknowledged the huge red flag there. Anyway, I had been without AC for so long, that I didn't care and had them replace the filter drier and coil. Recently I returned from vacation and there was a giant hole in my kitchen ceiling from where water had come through and I initially thought it was from a leak in the roof from all the rain. A roofer looked at it and determined that it was from the AC unit leaking not the roof. I called Larry to see if they could come that day, but his receptionist told me that he couldn't because Larry, who is every bit of 500 lbs, didn't have any smaller helpers available that day to access the unit in the attic. I told them to book the appointment for for a few days later when someone small enough was available and I would call them and let them know if I found someone else before then. I found a local company available to come the same day and do the repair. They told me whoever installed the coil, installed it incorrectly and didn't use all the parts causing it to leak. I contacted Larry's receptionist again to cancel the appointment and then I told them about the issue and asked how are they going to reimburse me for the repair to the AC and the large hole in my ceiling. She told me to send over the invoice. It was for $525 and she immediately told me I was being robbed and that her and her company are good people and that I should go after the business that was robbing me because they would never do that. I don't care how much they charged, how do you plan to reimburse me for your shoddy work? She told me that I had canceled the appointment with Larry, therefore they weren't liable for it. So I was supposed to wait 2 days because Larry can't fit in my attic? She then alluded to the reason the other business came the same day is because they can't stay booked, which I find funny because she knows nothing about the other business and her company is an AHS contractor which means they can't stay booked either or maybe they just like making less money and dealing with AHS reimbursement headaches. This is a small town, shady business, and if you have ever used them, and your unit has broken again, I suggest you find a reputable business to fix their mistake. I don't write reviews often, but there is one thing that I can't stand and that is being stolen from. Please let this serve as a warning to anyone who may consider using their services. read more
