Cool Water Grille Wow. Just wow. We were coming through Craig and this seemed to be the only place to get breakfast, so we stopped. It is a "seat yourself" kind of place, so we found a seat and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, the server, who was a very young girl, brought us our menus. She asked what we wanted to drink and, about 10 minutes later, finally brought us our drinks. 10 minutes later still, she finally returned to take our order. It was as if she was the owner's daughter and was working there against her wishes. She was not pleasant, competent or speedy. Aside from her, the place was crawling with flies. It was disgusting. We finally got our orders. I had ordered the chicken fried steak with soft scrambled eggs, hash browns and sourdough toast. It's pretty bad when the toast was the best thing on the plate. The chicken fried steak was clearly a frozen patty that was thrown into the fryer. The hash browns were dry and flavorless and didn't seem like they were prepared to order. And, clearly the chef has never heard of SOFT scrambled eggs because they were hard as a rock (and completely inedible). The other members of our party received a slightly better experience - the Denver omelet was "decent" and the pancakes were really good. We ordered coffee and never once received a refill (nor did we get any ice water). When we went to pay, to add insult to injury, they have the nerve of charging a 4% credit card fee. As someone who's run restaurants, let me tell you - this is a tax-deductible cost of doing business that should NEVER be passed on to the customer. So, if you're in Craig, you could do a lot better for your meal. It's unfortunate because I love supporting small mom and pop operations. read more

The food at this place is amazing and country heart happy stuff that will put a smile on your face and tame the orneriest of stomachs with awesome biscuits and gravy and thick large serving of bacon you will struggle to finish. But the prices were a bit more than what I would have expected for the food being served. 10.95 for the breakfast bowls and 10.50 for the burrito. I had the breakfast burrito smothered with half gravy, and half green chili. This place is definitely as described in other reviews- it's a small-town diner that isn't too fancy but not too shabby either! We were visiting family and they took us out for a nice breakfast here. It definitely held me over for the rest of the day! The portions for the biscuits and gravy were HUGE and pretty good. Hot sauce always helps round on the flavor, but these were quite good. First of all, Cool Water Grill is where the locals hang out for their morning coffee. Always a good sign. The servers are friendly, the owner came out to chat with us, and the food is awesome. Over priced less than average food. The worst coffee , at least I think it was coffee. The only resemblance to coffee was it was black and hot, tasted like hot water. This should have been a fair enough warning as what was yet to come. Gravy tasted like it came out of a package, weak with no flavor at all. Pressed ham was just what it is... also ordered huevos rancheros, don't the weakest excuse ever. Not sure if anyone in the kitchen ever ate real huevos rancheros because this was a grand stretch. Lastly the service was completely lame, I had to ask for milk for my "coffee " twice, butter when my biscuit arrived and completely ignored my request for hot sauce. No offer of a coffee refill ever though I won't drink it anyway. A complete pathetic excuse called breakfast, I won't be back and hope the reader saves their time and money and find some where else to spend your hard earned money. read more

There should be an option for zero stars. This place is absolutely awful. Service is horrendously slow. It took an hour for us to get our food. We had to go in and get our own menus. It took 20 mins to place out drink border. I ordered orange juice and I'm pretty sure it's tang. I then ordered iced tea and it was burnt or something. Couldn't drink it. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with hash browns and asked to add cheese. No cheese on the sandwich and it was cold. The hash browns tasted like dirt. Great breakfast! Had the biscuits and gravy that came with two eggs, ham, bacon, or sausage, and hashbrowns. It definitely hit the spot. My husband had the chicken fried steak that came with two eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. He topped it will pork green chile. He's hard to please, but was satisfied. I thought the green chile was delicious...needed a little salt, but still pretty good. And the best part is that they serve liquor! Mimosa score! I asked for a regular one, and the waitress suggested the addition of pear vodka, which is a local favorite. Of course, I was in! It was really good. Service was great. Excellent family run restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. I've had both on two separate occasions and enjoyed both. The service is great and the owner/chef came out and spoke with me. For lunch I had the French dip which was moist and flavorful. Thinly sliced beef with homemade dipping au jus and melted cheese upon a fresh baguette. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the food was a little plain and the decor was random but our food came out fast and hot. We stepped in on a Sunday afternoon, about 12:30 to get some lunch. The menu looked delicious and we both ordered the Green Chili smothered hamburger with french fries. Both of them were thoroughly cooked on the outside but at best rare in the middle. I didn't mind and finished my plate but my Dad was much more concerned about improperly cooked meat and didn't eat his. I don't know if this was because the kitchen used frozen patties or because they had their grille turned up too high. The green chili was forgettable at best. I think I saw two or three small diced pieces of pork in mine and my Dad found giant squishy pieces of an unidentifiable food in his. They could have been potatoes but neither of us knew what it was. The food was at best average. Also when the manager told the kitchen staff to check the hamburgers because they were going out raw someone yelled back a snarky comment that we couldn't quite make out. They weren't exactly slammed with business at that point in the day either. The two stars really don't do them justice, but the description to the stars does. "Meh. I've experienced better." I'm sure I'll go back but I'll be far more thorough in checking my food next time. The manager was very nice and did comp both of our meals. I ordered a breakfast that was cooked using frozen jerky style pork patties chopped up and dry stuffed into a omelet with no cheese and nothing was seasoned, I asked for some green chili sauce to put on my hash browns which looked undercooked and as I was preparing my hash browns for the sauce, I discovered the cooks hair imbedded inside them, I quietly put everything I dirtied onto the plate and pushed it away from me, this happened at the beginning of breakfast so I had only ate like 7 small bites of my entire plate or 1/8 th of my 13$ meal. Saving the hair to show to the waitress my wife took it to the waitress and the cook came out to see the hair, it was clearly from her head. Here is how they resolved the issue, the two women decided to take 5.00 off my meal, That's how I got treated, also hey brought out peoples food first that came in after we ordered. I am disappointed that a better attempt wasn't made at making me happy. Like for instance remake my meal and give it to me for free then in the end they said sorry to my wife and never said a word to me. I'm Grossed out by the entire event and I live in this town and will never go back to Cool Waters Grill again. read more
