    Kingfish with smoked soy

Beautiful property and a great place to come for Lunch on a sunny Melbourne day. Service is good, though more efficient than warm / friendly. Party of 4 opted for the 2-course lunch which was good value at $59. My Kingfish starter was good, but unfortunately my steak was quite possibly one of the worst I've had for a while. It was terribly overcooked, almost well-done in fact, when I had ordered medium rare. My wife's was only a little better, maybe medium-well. Pure hunger prevented me from sending it back. Had it not been for that poor dish, the meal would've probably been a 4* rating. The pork belly entree was excellent, and all portions were very generous (oh and the awesome thick chips salvaged the steak dish). I would probably skip the lunch and opt for the garden tour (which is great!) and afternoon tea. Have lunch over at The Stones or Yering Station instead.

There was a wedding going on, and I can totally see why as it is truly a beautiful location. We came on a Saturday and the place was packed for lunch. Our large group was able to get seated and we ordered the Zonzo Festa, which comes with three courses. We were quickly served the antipasto plates. The meats, prosciutto and salami, I believe, were both very well flavored. There wasn't too much cheese, though, and the bread was just fine. I wish it would have been served with crackers instead. For the pizzas, we had to wait almost an hour. Even though we were a large group, I didn't really expect it to take this long. We ordered the Pizza Alla Salsiccia, which had a pork and fennel sausage. This was very well seasoned and was definitely my favorite. The Pizza con pancetta was also well flavored. Finally the Pizza con Sporessa had salami on it, which was good but quite spicy! The meal ended with slow cooked lamb with potatoes. We were all pretty full already, and this wasn't necessarily a "light" dish, so it did seem a little weird. The lamb looked really good, but was pretty tough. The potatoes were nicely cooked, but I think we were just all too full to really enjoy it. Overall, the restaurant was yummy! However, service was wayy too slow, and we were not expecting to spend close to 2.5 hours eating. One of the groups was also only served two pizzas, though everyone else got three as part of the Zonzo Feast. There aren't too many places to eat in Yarra Valley, so this place is definitely going to stay busy, and I would say it's still worth going for the food and atmosphere.

Bryan was very knowledgeable and gave us insights into the Melbourne wine country scene We compared some notes with the Bay Area wine scene Sonoma/Napa valley and the subtle differences Winery location is gorgeous and the open space is great for kids ! The ok: It took more than 10 mins to get seated even with a reservation after trying to get a hold of 3 different staff, the winery was not busy - expected better customer service The charcuterie board was ok, the pizzas were the standard fare, chicken nuggets were good and the fish and chips were tasty - maybe we picked the wrong items ? As it turned out, it was our first of the day! We were, I believe, the first in the cellar door at 10am when doors opened. We were helped by Jeanette, who was in the midst of preparing for a large group (looked like she had set out a good 15+ glasses!) so I think she was still mentally "in the zone" for something other than just the two of us. Having said that, her knowledge of the wines, of the label, and of all things we spoke of was fantastic. Clearly knows her stuff, and the wines she represented. We tried both of their ranges, the Ingram Rd range (which is the physical address of Helen's Hill) and the Helen's Hill range - and there are definitely differences between them. Both are very good, and I won't go into a wine review here, as this was more about the winery. There were two big yellow labs there to greet us, both of whom were as friendly as you'd expect of the breed. The tasting room / cellar door is spacious, with rooms for pretty good sized groups. I have some pictures I'll try to share as well. Do note, there's no food on offer in the tasting room; Helen's Hill has a restaurant just up the road, and they've learned over the years that if you offer too many nibbles people just come in for the tasting and nibbles and drive off without a purchase. Personally, I find that behaviour reprehensible, and I always try to find something I like at a given winery that I want to take home. And so it was with Helen's Hill, we went out with 10 bottles of various things, and I can't wait to break into them! It was a fantastic and beautiful start to a wonderful day, and I can definitely recommend Helen's Hill as a spot to try if you're in the area!

The restaurant is in a beautiful house, and isn't too big, so it doesn't feel crowded or noisy. The decoration is simple and has a homely feel to it. We were a group of ten people. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. They suggested getting an assortment of entrées to share, which was a good idea as we got to sample a good part of the menu. We did the same for desserts. The food was delicious and original, as some dishes offered a interesting mix of flavors (for example, the menu comprised an omelet with melon and mint and a curry with watermelon). Overall, I think everyone enjoyed their food. The food was tasty, flavory and fresh. A lot of the vegetables and herbs come from the restaurant's garden, which you can take a walk in after eating or between courses while enjoying the scenery. The bread was homemade and really good (and that means a lot coming from a French person!). As for drinks, we had white wine and red wine, both of which were really good. This is a nice place to go to if you want to have nice and out of the ordinary quality food and local wine and escape the city for the day.
