This antique shop is not quite like the others…read more First, it's a second generation shop (passed from mother to son) and has been around for decades. They specialize in antiques mostly 100+ years old. But what is really special (given that you're not in a rush) is the shopkeeper/owner Michael. He is quite a character and is always willing to share his knowledge on anything you ask regarding antiques. He is very quirky but has a very sweet and earnest demeanor. He can talk about just watches for an hour + and never rushes you out. I think his life goal is to saturate his visitors with knowledge! Also noteworthy is that this building is a protected historical site because it used to be the old Metuchen firehouse. If you ask (and sometimes if you don't ask), he'll give you the full tour (a nice history lesson, no charge). If you like learning about historical buildings, make sure you stop here! There is one thing that might need mentioning though--- the shop was on hiatus for a few years so there is some deterioration on the walls and it's a bit more cluttered than it used to be. So do pardon the appearances--- but don't fret about that as if you tell him what you're looking for, he'll probably be able to direct you to the correct pieces! PS. It also helps to call his number just to make sure he'll be there!

Stopped by this place today, as I've done a few times and even purchased a few things a long with…read moremy kids. Wasn't sure if the man who worked there just had a terrible personality, and is usually rude, unwelcoming , unfriendly or was it because of my what I looked like. There was an item on the wall that caught my interest, remove it off the wall as it was for sale, but I wanted to inspect it further. As I removed the item, the piece that held it on the wall fell, not the item it self but a piece of wire. He comes over and with a very rude tone tells me, not to take anything down if I don't have too, " it's the reason I took it down to begin with" as I couldn't tell what it was. I told him there was no sign indicating not to remove anything off the wall, and he responds by telling me there's signs in other places and he can't put them everywhere. Very distasteful and regret spending my money there. I usually like to match people's energy but at the time felt like he wasn't worth my energy. A better approach: Hi ma'am, can I help you with that, we unfortunately recommend not taking things off the wall, instead ask for assistance and I'll be glad to help. ​ Work on your attitude sir, and if it was because of what I looked like. Then that even more terrible. I will also be telling my family members not to ever shop there again!

I've bought a few collectible items most under $20 bucks. They can have some nice vintage furniture at times. And cool wooden items. It's definitely my go to spot when I'm in the area.
