I called to have a 3 week old puppy seen for a cut and infected dew claw. I've been doing this a long time and knew it could be managed with good wound care, but at 70 my eyes as good as they used to be so wanted to be sure there wasn't a hair embedded in the wound. Weight was taken, wound examined under magnification, and ointment prescribed. 5 minute contact time. $200 bill. Apparently, it is an emergency unless you schedule your appointment weeks/months in advance. read more

We went to Copake Vet for 13 years to Dr. Reisweiller who was always excellent. He provided exemplary care for our animals. When Reisweiller was retiring we started seeing Dr. Klay for our GSD Alex. The GSD was a dog trained and titled in several sports, thousands of hours of training, and a Master Level scent work dog. More so than a partner in competition, Alex was a protector of and a member of our family. Alex was a patient of Copake Vet his entire life. Our GSD developed bloat on a Saturday morning during office hours. We drove 10 minutes to their office calling their office enroute and got long busy signals. When we arrived the parking lot was empty of client cars - ie no other patients were there. Dr. Klay and the tech Teesha refused to stabilize Alex, see him or even come out to the parking lot . Instead we were told to go to the emergency vet in Latham over an hour and a half away. I told the receptionist to tell Klay the dog was in extreme pain, had bloat and would probably not make it and to tell Dr. Klay. Klay still refused to see him. GSD Alex died hours later (when the emergency vet could finally operate) during an operation the emergency vet said would cost $17K to save him, ended up $4K because they could not. The emergency vet said they had a 70% chance of saving him which is why we agreed to it. They also told us to leave as they were sedating him and would call when the operation was over. I did not want to leave - they insisted - but felt better that we made it there and they would care for him. We found out later the type of bloat he had (double bubble) there was no saving him. So basically Copake Vet could have/should have put him down in the parking lot hours earlier. Klay's decision was inhumane. Alex could have been given a pain med for the ride, had the pressure relieved so the pain was not excruciating, but instead they did NOTHING. And Teesha was rude on the phone Monday when we called to tell Copake Vet he died and the circumstances. We received a phone call from their accountant who we never met before who basically spent an hour on the phone trying to justify their lack of care and covering their bases. We knew why he called and it had nothing to do about real concern. We lost a great dog that day and our vet practice as well. We moved our other two dogs to another practice. It is a year later-this happened 4/15/2023. Out of respect for our initial vet Reisweiller I have held off but the inhumane circumstances of Alex's death and Klay's lack of professional care and concern for a long-term patient still haunts me. RIP Alex my boy you did not deserve the death you had. I will never forget how good your heart was and how humans failed you totally. read more

My Husband and I have been going to Copake vet for a few years now , We drive an hour and a half each way because of the care our animals receive !!! They are absolutely by far the best vet we have ever had !!! We have dogs and cats as well as farm animals it's so nice to have a vet that sees both and We had an emergency with one of our goats and one of the large animal vets too the time to drive all the way out to us to see her !! The office girls are wonderful as well as all the vets we will never use another vet !!! I should also mention that their prices are very fair and affordable , They are very caring and kind if there were more stars I'd give them a ten star rating !!!!!! read more

I have never written an online review before but as a longtime customer of Copake Veterinary Hospital, I felt compelled to let people know about the outstanding care and compassion delivered by the staff and vets from this facility. The staff is kind and responsive and we have worked with several different vets there and every single one has provided extremely compassionate skill and attention for our beloved pets' needs. We recently had to say goodbye to our 19-year-old cat Teddy, and Dr. Maya gave him a thorough examination, explained the x-ray results, walked us through the options, and gave us time to decide and say goodbye to him. She called us at home later to make sure we got home okay and then sent a note of sympathy. Where else can you get this kind of sincere, skilled customer service? I have been going to Copake Hospital for a number of years now. They have always taken very good care of our pets and have been very professional. Recently my beloved dog, Barkley, became very ill at the dog sitters whole we were on vacation. The sitter rushed him to another vet that was much closer and Copake vet faxed the medical records. Unfortunately, our dog was too sick and had to be euthanized. I e-mailed Copake to tell them our dog had passed but I didn't hear any response. Later on, I called up to schedule an appointment for our cat. I asked the receptionist if she received the e-mail that our dog died. Her response was "Yes, we got your e-mail and we know your dog is deceased ". I thought this was so cold and I was very hurt . I know the receptionists are very busy but how long does it take to say " I"m sorry ". I think Copake has to realize that for every pet that comes in, there's a human that loves them and hurts when they die. read more

Completely unable to accommodate anyone since pre-Covid.I had another animal registered with them, but when it came time to put my 17 year old dog to sleep, they said no. Your dog is not a patient. I live 5 minutes away. Rude customer service. It's a shame they're the only local option here. Would never recommend this place. read more

This veterinary hospital used to be first rate; unfortunately, it no longer is. I am not sure if that is because of a new business manager hire or simply because they are overwhelmed by the pandemic. They have gone from being supportive, caring and extremely professional to being unsupportive, frazzled and rude. We sat in the parking lot waiting for our appointment only to watch one woman have a very unpleasant confrontation with a gentleman on staff. Someone in the lot said it was the new business manager. The woman simply got into her car and drove off. Another woman in the car next to us commented that she wasn't surprised and she, too, was thinking of finding a new place to take her dog. So sad; they used to be great. read more

I moved to near the Copake area about a year ago and I have 2 dogs, a 12year old and a 14 year old. So I have had my share of experiences with vets. This office is great. Never a long wait and everyone is very kind. Recently I had to put my 14 yo dog down and I had a home euthanasia done. The Vet that came was gentle, kind, and respectful of our experiences. I would not have had it any other way. I highly recommend this Vet hospital, they understand the love we have for our pets. read more

Through an emergency I called Copake explaining what was happening with my dog. This was after lunch on a Saturday. Even though he was at the end of his day and I was an hour away, he told me the dog needed to be seen and I should bring him immediately. He examined the dog, determined what had to be done which was surgery. After the surgery, the dog became a happy healthy dog with no symptoms. Those same symptoms that had been treated for 3 years by another vet without any resolution. Do I love Copake Vet, yes yes ,yes!!!! The absolute best care for your animals, a caring, smart, reasonable priced vet. Talking with other people in the waiting room, I found that my story was NOT an unusual one. Imagine. read more

I am a client of this veterinary practice because of the veterinarians that own the establishment, Dr. Rasweiler and Dr. Duryea. However, the reception staff is another story. They don't follow through with notifying the vets when you call, are lazy and have no personalities. Dealing with Donna, the office manager is not an improvement. Visiting the vet with an ill pet is stressful enough then add the fact that you can't even accompany them inside, due to COVID. In my opinion, when you work in a patient oriented position, you should have people skills and not just taking payment. After all we are the advocates for our pets. Shame on the staff for making this already stressful time even more stressful. read more

I decided to bring my new puppy to this veterinary office because I was displeased with my previous vet. This is a large practice with a bunch of doctors and doctors are on call after hours. It was very easy for me to get an appointment. I called on Monday and I was able to be seen a couple days later. The prices seemed reasonable and on par with other local veterinary offices. They gave me a puppy packet folder and a free sample of heartworm preventative. I was very happy with my visit. I'm glad I decided to switch to this practice. read more

Just have had fantastic experiences with these guys over the years. The vet's call you personally to report on the condition of your animal, and obviously take more than a business interest in the pets. The OWNER of the hospital has called me at night several times, as well as fit me in for emergency surgery after hours. Clearly saved the life of my lab mix "Wilson", who actually tolerates the office due to the staff's exceptional animal handling skills. REasonable prices, high quality work. What a great animal hospital! My critters have been in their care for over 5 years now. They in fact do their own after hours emergency calls for existing clients. That is farm calls as well as office calls. Unheard of these days but very important to me. To date they have cared for my dogs, goats, hogs and now our mini pet pigs. They offer alternative medicine for your pets as well. A technician does an intake with you and your pet allowing you lots of time to give information and voice concerns so as to maximize your time with the doctor. So professional and a real value for the price without a doubt. read more
