Price does not matter when you have an organization where from the top to the bottom, everyone is acting on your behalf to create the best situation. In April of this year my dad arranged a Zoom meeting with Mark O'Brien from Copenbarger&Copenbarger's Santa Ana location to go over the my late mother's living trust. The meeting was on 4/17. First of all, Mark arrived 8 minutes late to the Zoom meeting, and he claimed that his camera was malfunctioning, so we never even saw his face. During the meeting he advertised his services to us, claiming the first 30 minutes of the meeting were of no cost to us. We did not want to go over the 30 minutes so we made sure to ask him multiple times to confirm we were not going over the time. He told us we were not going over the time. He told us that his legal assistant, Silvi, would send us the documents from the meeting for free so we did not need to take notes. This is standard procedure. Later on that day, Silvi wrote a follow up email to ask if we would pursue the additional legal services. No documents were attached. At the time we had not decided yet. I kindly asked her to send us the documents, assuming it had just been an oversight on her part. She eventually sent the documents many days later with (what seemed like) much less zest than how she sent the retainer agreement. No acknowledgement that she had not performed the task she was assigned. Understandably, with the show for little attention to detail or customer service, we were not compelled to go with their offices for legal services. Over a month later we received a bill from their offices for an apparent 5 minutes that Mark had gone over the half hour in our legal consultation. We had not gone over 30 minutes in total. I had made sure to write back explaining the delayed Zoom, assuming this was another oversight. Sarah from their office refused to look into the situation and steadfastly asked for the money. My senior dad, exhausted with grief and wanting to avoid confrontation, paid the charges. We thought this would take care of the correspondence/bills for good. My dad received mail today that he was still being charged for the $43.50 that he had (unnecessarily) paid on 6/15. It makes me wonder how many others this is happening to. And how many just take the charges (whatever amount they may be) and are not willing to speak up. Should I give them the benefit of the doubt one more time and assume that this was yet another oversight? I plan to contact them again about these charges and will update this post if this becomes satisfactorily resolved. read more

I would never recommend C&C to anyone. I am the Trustee for my parents trust. I began this process in 2/25. In the first meeting with my attorney, she stated that it was a "very simple Trust and would be easy to administer." There was only one investment account. There were no checking accounts, savings accounts, autos or any other property. It couldn't be much simpler. She took a $5000 retainer at that time. I was not informed that Medicare, HHS and other services would be contacted by C&C. I had already done all of that. The communication was not clear all along the way. There was a document that got lost, the paralegal assigned to our case left the company, there were processes that were started without clear explanation and additional circumstances that seemed to be adding unnecessary costs to the process. I terminated our relationship in 8/25 after receiving many mores invoices and very little communication. Our investment firm finished the administration and had the distribution complete to all beneficiaries within 3 weeks at no charge. I contacted Larry Copenbarger twice to ask for an explanation of the high charges and received no response. The fees charged by C&C have reached over $9.000. One investment account, 7 beneficiaries including siblings and a church. Our original attorney, Mr. Humphries passed away several years ago and left his Trust clients to Copenbarger & Copenbarger. Mr. Humphries was a fair and honest man. He would be extremely disappointed with the way that this has worked out. read more

We met with this firm in September 2024.Fairly simple Estate,only child so no distributions needed to be done all ducks were in a row,all requested paperwork was provided within a month.Other than Trust administration paperwork,lodging the will we also asked them to do Home transfer paperwork.Waited over 3 months and nothing was filed,would not answer our questions,and billed us for every phone call and email.This is by design,they keep you in the dark and force you to call and then bill you insane amounts of money for lies and delays.Ended up filing all of the House transfer paperwork ourselves,that's when we confirmed they were a bunch of deceitful Attorneys.We ultimately filed a small claims case against them and won some money back.Do yourself a favor and go with another outfit.Our experience was absolutely atrocious considering the business they are in.Then 16 months later we received an invite from this firm in my deceased mother in laws name,their deceased client who's estate they administered.Think about that for a second. read more

My husband and I used this firm to set up or Living Trust several years ago, paying several thousand dollars at the time. We were never informed of any additional fees. A few months after my husband went home to heaven I contacted them to see what I needed to do legally in terms of any needed changes in our trust and was informed I could meet with an attorney to discuss it. I was assured the 30 minute meeting would be free. I was careful to watch the clock to ensure I did not go over the 30 minutes. I met with attorney Mark O'Brien. During the meeting he reviewed a 2 page list of things that he said needed to be done (OVERVIEW OF COMMON ACTIONS: ESTATE ADMINISTRATION ). when I asked how much this would cost I was quoted a price of over $5,000.00. I informed him I could not afford that and asked for more detail only to find I had already done most of what was on the list on my own. The remaining items: Update land records - Affidavit Death of Trustee, Transfer of decedent's (interest in) property (our home was jointly owned by my husband and I), lodge will and prepare IRS/CA FTB notices. I was told these items could be done for less than $1,000.00. I agreed to this and paid the $1,000.00 retainer expecting to get a small refund after the work was completed. a few months later I recieved a bill for an additional $3651.20 and a month after that a 3rd bill for $3556.00. When I questioned the 1st bill and asked why I was charged more than the quoted $1,000.00 I was told they would never have said any such thing (basically called a liar). When I asked for an itemization of costs, it showed I was charged for the "free 30 minutes" in addition to "Prep" time to review my file and time for him to make notes after our meeting, time for phone calls that never lasted more than a few minutes and time for e-mails that I never recieved. I feel like I have fallen into a deep deep rabbit hole and cant get out as they nickel and dime me for thousands of dollars and I have no control over it. I told them after the 2nd bill to stop everything, that I could not afford this but now I have this 3rd bill. My advise is do not use this firm. I have since contacted another attorney who is embarrassed by what this firm has done and quoted me $250.00 to complete the Update land records, Transfer of decedent's , lodge will and prepare IRS/CA FTB notices. read more

So disappointed in this firm. My parents paid quite a bit of money to put together trusts and since they have passed we have been unable to get anyone to help us. They are completely unresponsive. It has been two months since my mother passed away and they still cannot find the latest copy of the trust and have yet to schedule a meeting to discuss. Nobody ever returns calls or emails. My mom and dad would be so upset that they paid Copenbarger so much money and in the end they became useless. Do your kids a favor and find another firm. read more

I am very disappointed with this company as I see a few others are as well ... I was told 3 months later to get my moms home appraised when she passed... I'm sorry but I took it upon myself & did it within 30 days after she passed !! It was never the money I payed them but after spending approximately $15,000 & none of the 14 family members that were to receive some money NEVER got the letter to inform them of it ... Well I fired this company & i did inform all 14 family member what they were going to receive , was easy to do !! Not much was done & my parents files were passed to a couple different people & yes I was charged when each new person reviewed AGAIN ... Mind you this is my opinion of this company !! PLEASE be careful!! I also send information which I was to get back but never did ... Everytime I would ask for the 2 things I wanted all Brenden (?) did was deflect & call me combative !! Thanks for the opportunity to say how it is !.... It's not the picking this company that was a referral from moms trust & they were as helpful as can be until it's time to use them from the settling of things .. very expensive for very little that was done !! read more

I just wanted to let the company know what a great asset Diane is at your Capatola office. She helps me with anything. I don't understand lawyer's translations. Diana's been with your firm since the beginning, when she was sal's Paralegal when he passed. And Copenbarger and Copenbarger took over his clients. She's always been a great help to my family and myself, since I'm the executor of the revocable trust and will. She always points me in the right direction when I need a translation on something I've gotten from the attorneys office. Period I just want to let Larry Copenbarger and his father and the rest of the team there at the firm know what a asset she has been to my family and me. My mother passed in May 2022 and the firm has been working on the living trust and will. again, I can't say what a great asset Diane is at the Capatola firm office. She's has always been nothing but professional and I hope the firm knows what a great employee Diane is from my perspective. I am so disappointed that I chose this firm for my Living Trust. This team, I believe Lloyd did mine along with his assistant. I didnt know this at the time but EVERY SINGLE CHANGE such as adding grandkids etc will cost you hundreds of dollars!!! Who wouldnt need to make a change every few years????? NOT ONE CHANGE is offered at no cost. Heck, I already paid them 2000.00 to do it!!! Can I get at least 1 or 2 changes at no cost throughout my life of having this trust??. My church scheduled them and I am so sorry I didn't shop around. I have 2 grandchildren now and guess what? To ADD them on....hundreds..a min of 800. There are others out there guys and you CAN make changes to it without breaking the bank!!!! This is ridiculous. I now have a revocable living trust that is not even up to date. I dont have the funds to give them more. SUZE ORMAN has a great one...no cost to add updates!! Or check around, my mother just got one that she can modify as well without adding more $$$!!! read more
