An extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience. We hired Shauna Anderson to handle the trust left by our deceased family member. We assumed a costly law firm would make things easier, but that was not the case. She and her associate were repeatedly unable to proof the work they sent us, so we would have to point out that the documents they produced had incorrect dates and names (multiple times). It's obvious when someone is not doing original work, but cutting and pasting on a generic document. We were told that it was critical we pay for them to create a certification of trust as "everyone you deal with will require it." Well, that was true, but every entity had their own certification of trust we had to independently notarize and use. The one we paid Law and Stein for was worthless, never needed even once. It's odd they wouldn't know that, doing this as often as they say they do. Overbilling was a constant issue where a very basic lease question (I knew the answer as I own multiple apartment buildings, but we were being thorough) was ignored until we followed up, then, suddenly, the basic answer received apparently required 90 minutes of research, per their inflated bill. Finally, lawyers are well educated people, as are many of their clients, however Shauna made it a habit of talking down to us, rather dismissively when we asked questions about their handling of the case. We fired her, and moved on to a different firm, less expensive and far more effective. read more

Reached out to Matt for a second opinion for our defense of a traffic accident case. Wanted to hire an attorney outside of what the insurance company was providing us because the potential damages were well in excess of our policy limits. Mr. Stein spent time explaining the process to us and suggested a list of question that we ask our insurance company and current attorney. He said that he would be happy to represent us, but that it might not be needed and could end up costing us money that we didn't need to spend. In the end, he was correct. We did not engage his services and things turned out OK for us. Despite not hiring him, he still took the time to follow up with us and make sure everything was going OK. My situation was similar to MaryAnn's below. This firm came recommended, and were expensive. They charged us $3000 to review 2 simple documents / contracts, then had us go through a lot of legwork on our part to provide documentation that we later found out was useless. The worst part was after more monies paid, the original documents were sent (against our wishes) to the opposing council and then were not returned after we found another attorney to represent us. They also did not make the settlement offer in writing and that caused the case to go longer than it should have gone. It sounds like if you have a lot of money, they can do good work for you. This firm specializes in racking up bills, they are not concerned with details so during a mediation session they advised me to attend turned out very badly for me. As the Co-Conservator of a small family Trust, I signed a handwritten mediation agreement with two of their attorneys present that agreement stuck me with every single penny in legal fees after the date of the the mediation even though the Trust has yet to be settled.
