Letting us get a little sample of the in house made rum. We were able to make great connections with all the staff (servers , bartenders) and find our new local spot when we're visiting our cabin. They were all smooth. The flavored spirits were perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too faint. The coconut rum, cobblers, and coffee were our top rated. This is a quaint little distillery that my in laws took us too. No food is served and it's basically a one man show. I decided to try the agave liqueur and added grapefruit juice. I really enjoyed it! He had quite a few different liquors you could try and he has a little room off the side that you can buy bottles to go. You can bring food in if you want, so if you are looking to try a couple different items, that may be the way to go. Had never been here prior, but had seen a long line of strong reviews in the past. Unfortunately, this place has been under new management for a bit. We had a party of 6. After 90+ minutes with no updates besides giving us our original drinks, server told us that unfortunately, our orders were never put in due to a problem with the new computer system. However, there are multiple other reviews echoing the same issue last few months. He offered to make us have no bill or put in the orders ASAP in the kitchen and for them to prioritize it over all other orders. Food came 20 minutes later. 3 of the 6 people's ribs were extremely undercooked and very red. Brisket was also underdone. Mac n cheese was admittedly above average, but this was the only notably decent dish. Barbecue sauce served was frozen in jello. Multiple side dishes were incorrect still. Bill took forever and it felt like they were embarrassed to address us. We ended up talking to staff that we were frustrated with the unsafe and undercooked food and service, and we gave them a 20 dollar bill and they at least graciously allowed us not to pay for the rest of our food. Apparently, the manager was not present. 2 Servers were acting as bartenders, servers, and busboys and appeared severely overwhelmed by the load. Would not recommend in any capacity in its current state. Immeasurably disappointed. read more

The restaurant is set up perfect for large or small crowds with an outdoor area as well and I love the ambiance and they even showed us the distillery area. Customers - we waited and waited for our drinks we had to go up and ask if we might ever get our drinks then they said oh yes we have your ticket one of the drinks was a shot of house blueberry rum on the rocks the other a gin and tonic took 20 minutes again ? Although drinks were good be ready to wait and wait to get any, never offered more water we sat for an hour with no water or drinks while we waited for dinner The food was much quicker but so disappointing the "giant" baked potato was supposed to be smothered it literally had a bite of chicken 3 small sliced mushrooms and a pinky tip of cheese really a complete joke None of the 4 entrees were impressive just disappointing for a birthday outing which we had mentioned to the server and manager upon arrival they offered dessert for birthdays but after our dinner which no one finished and waiting 2 hours for a 2 round of drinks no server remembered or offered birthday dessert so we just wanted to get out of there will say the rum and gin was good we planned to purchase 2 bottles but because of the terrible experience decided no thx Will not return read more

So I don't know the owners (yet) and am just posting my honest experience and opinion on the liquor, food, building and service... This place is solid! The decor is warm and cabin-like. The restaurant and restrooms are clean and classy. I had been in the building as a kid when it was a gift shop. They truly blended past with present well! My husband and I tried the flight of 6. All were decent but our favorites were the salted caramel, cinnamon whiskey and spiced rum. (The vodka and gin were ok, but we liked these better.) We also shared the PB&J Pork Belly appetizer and a dinner-size salad. (See pictures.) The pork belly was tasty and just enough for 2 to indulge without overkill. The salad was very fresh and crispy. We enjoyed both! Our server, Sarah, did a good job of checking on us in reasonable intervals. She readily answered our questions with a positive demeanor. She was also bartending for quite a few and seemed to manage everything naturally. Overall, the place was very good and we'll come back to support it. I absolutely loved this place! We did not eat here but really enjoyed the drinks and the atmosphere. Although it was a tad chilly on our recent visit it was a sunny day and still pleasant enough to enjoy our drinks in the yard. Their liquors are truly unique and delicious on their own or in their own creative mixtures. This place is great. The cinnamon whiskey kicks the pants off all equivalent products. You have to rate this restaurant in context of its current location and what's available nearby: fountains of bud lite and gfs frozen everything. With that in mind, this place is 5 stars. We're from Royal Oak though, and if this place was there - I'd definitely deduct a star or two for the food, but the drinks and liquor they make are pretty great. If they were only a distillery (no food) in a more metropolitan area, I think I'd still rate them 4 stars due to quality and price. For what's available in Houghton Lake though (and the surrounding 20 miles or so) - this is a must see. read more

My husbsnd and I just enjoyed lunch and a cocktail at this new little gem in Houghton Lake. Hubby had the special, a mushroom swiss burger. It was cooked perfectly, came on a fresh brioche bun and was served with fries. My lunch was a side Winter Salad which included apples and pears and a wonderful vinaigrette, along with a bowl of their home made (it was obvious) chicken dumpling soup.
