Choose from booths, tables or even the classic breakfast bar to sit. Plenty of street parking outside. The week day morning is filled with locals enjoying their daily gossip and a cup of joe. Staff is friendly, warm, and quick to fill up your mug. Food is standard and also everything you can hope for at a small local breakfast joint. The breakfast special was a two egg with toast, hash browns and bacon or sausage for $6.75. Sausage comes in link or patty. Booth tables are lined with a table cloth stating a "cup of kindness". Restaurant is clean as well. If you stop in La Junta for breakfast, try this over the Village Inn down the road. You won't be disappointed. read more

Great place for breakfast, the chef is an egg expert! He even knows how to make SOFT basted eggs. Pancakes etc are wonderful but I'm afraid I can't say the same about the cinnamon rolls because they are absolutely,amazingly delicious - the best I've ever had and I've had cinnamon rolls all over the country. Kudos! Their wait - staff is efficient, friendly and responsive, but the old man that greets you at the door needs some new jokes. We love to eat here, just get lunch someplace else. (Sorry) I always enjoy the unique decor which is changed just often enough to keep me interested. The lady who makes most of the interesting stuff that they put up is creative and resourceful. They do not serve breakfast all day, they stop at 11am. It was 11:08 and we asked the server and the manager if we could order eggs, they said no, so we left and drove 5 miles over to Village Inn and had a fantastic breakfast/brunch. With all the great reviews we decided to give this place a try. It might be good for breakfast but lunch was extremely disappointed. With the large farm lands around you would think they would use local grown healthy food but everything was prepackaged frozen foods heated up. Even the corn was canned corn. The hamburger was a small thin patty that had no flavor, bacon was cold, and the cheese didn't even melt and they use the cheapest buns. People that work here seem very nice and we didn't have to wait long for service. You can tell a lot of locals eat here but I am thinking because they don't have a lot of other choices. read more

Had the opportunity to visit Copper Kitchen a few days ago at lunch time. Ordered the tomato bisque soup. First of all the server and everyone else were extremely friendly and the service was great. I even met the cook. Last but not least, the soup was made that morning and was easily the best soup I have ever had, other than my mother's soup a very long time ago. The place was also clean. To me, reviews should be inclusive of the entire experience and that is why I rated this place so high. First off, the food (I had breakfast) was above average and the prices were reasonable. The atmosphere was very much a blast from the past, including the wood paneling inside. The service was outstanding!!!! Multiple servers attending to your every need and even asking if I wanted a soda to go as part of free refills. To top it off was the cashier/owner Larry, who was genuinely happy to see us and speak with us for a bit. The world needs more people like Larry and businesses like the Copper Kitchen! We just spotted this cafe on our Maps app when searching for a place to have breakfast. What a find! We walked in and this man (we later found out was the co-owner Larry) came over to us and told us to pick a table or booth. We visited frequently with him while there and enjoyed talking with him. Hidden gem by the train station in La Junta. Great service, attentive staff and Larry the owner made his rounds of the tables. Adorable old school breakfast spot, think Grandma's kitchen in the 80s. Loved that vibe and the absolutely perfect service from our server and other staff we encountered. Food was good. I don't usually eat biscuits and gravy so it was a fun comfort food indulgence and I liked the hash browns being halfway in between brown/crunchy and underdone. My husband had the Western veggie omelette with a tortilla and felt similarly about his order. I would have liked a little more variety on the menu, personally, but this is an authentic, old fashioned place so I wouldn't really change a thing. For what it is, I give Copper Kitchen an easy five stars. For me as a diner, maybe four stars. read more

Summary: Above average folks but food, VERY DISAPPOINTING. Quaint little cafe could be from the 1950s or 60s. My waitress Kelly (?) was super friendly and appropriately attentive. The older gentlemen who took my payment was very friendly, too. My chicken fried steak was surely a store bought, frozen steak and relatively small in size. The fries were good and an ample serving. The dinner salad I ordered was really nothing more than iceburg lettuce. My dinner roll was too dense and too dry. I made the assumption that the banana creme pie was homemade. Wrong. It was one of those store bought, frozen pies that are about $3-$4 at the grocery store. I paid $3.50 for one slice. A 16 oz. (?) glass of Diet Pepsi was $2. $16.43 with a tip for an overpriced, underwhelming lunch. Mom and Pops are usually a very safe bet. Maybe the choices in La Junta are few but Yelpers steered me seriously wrong on this one. I'd say cut the current Yelp 4 1/2 star rating in half and you'd be closer to a fair assessment. This little hole in the wall is a great find. The service was beyond amazing. I've never been somewhere that every single employee came by and checked our coffee. The owner even made rounds to talk to customers, many he knew by name and filled coffee as needed. The food had a great home cooked feel to it and tasted wonderful.
