The barbacoa tacos were some of the best we've had (and we're junkies) and the spicy chicken enchiladas were heavy on the chicken and served with fresh tomato, lettuce and onion. Took my hubby there because all we ever hear is how good the food is. We ordered cheese enchilada combination plate, super nachos, and rolled tacos. The service was quite fast and friendly. Unfortunately the food was less than desirable. This food truck was doing a brisk business on a summer weekday evening. While we were waiting for our food at least half dozen cars pulled up to order food. There were a lot of flies drawn to the area and it was a hot evening sitting at one of the three picnic tables waiting for our food. We took everything to go, and enjoyed in our own air conditioned space a number of the combination platters including #1 three rolled cheese and guacamole tacos, #4 carne asada tacos, & the #13 beef burrito. All served with beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it was authentic Mexican with good flavors. There is an indoor seating area next to the truck, but it didn't look very inviting from the outside, so I'd recommend this as a tasty takeout experience. The hubs and I drove down to La Junta for the tarantula migration and stopped here before heading out on our search. This is the perfect duvet restaurant we love to try out. I ordered three grilled chicken tacos and the hubs got a carnitas, asada and lengua tacos. We shared a side of beans and rice. My chicken tacos came in what appeared to be homemade flour tortillas. With a little bit of lettuce, cheese and a dollop of sour cream, they totally hit the spot. The hubs wolfed his three tacos down too and he thought they were quite good. Stayed in La Junta overnight at the KOA on our drive from Durango to the Midwest and found Lucy's on Yelp. Delicious! Ordered the #20 chimichanga chicken with red sauce 9.75, #3 with 2 chili rellenos 9.99, Carne asada fries 10.75, 3 plain rolled tacos w cheese 3.25, large Jamaica $3.75 and a Plain churro 3. Total was $44 with tax (rounded up). The only thing I wouldn't order again is the rolled tacos bc as other reviewers said it's hardly any meat, mostly a rolled corn tortilla with cheese on top. I really liked the chili rellanos and the rice and my 3 year old daughter ate almost my entire portion of beans. The kids loved splitting the churro. My husband liked his chicken chimichanga with spicy chicken (or could've gotten grilled). I also liked the carne asada fries and the large jamaica was HUGE and refreshing with the perfect amount of ice. I thought the prices were very fair, especially for the amount of food we got! The girl at the window was very nice so I tipped them, too. Bring cash for that bc there's a tip can but no way to tip on the credit card receipt. so I got for the second time! they put sour cream on after asked for no cheese no tomato! that's it! no sour cream! I'm allergic to dairy! the first one had sour cream all over... So took it back and I said you trying to kill me? Jokingly but really... and I said no cheese no tomato... so they remained it. I wasn't aware that because you order grilled chicken you don't get beans! This know where on the menu! it should say no beans with grilled chicken? Very disappointed! Won't go back! Family and I were driving around looking for lunch and decided to stop at Lucy's Tacos. Boy were we glad that we did. It may not look like much, but this place is pretty damn good! The line was long and therefore took a little longer to get the food, but it was worth it! The food was yummy and tasty and for the price you get a lot. I love Lucy's! It's great to grab if you're on the go, though they've got a little room attached as well if you wanna eat there. Many of the staff speak English as a second language so you'll do well to brush up on your basic Spanish beforehand if you're looking for a custom order ("sin cilantro, por favor" ahaha). The food is great. Can't speak to authenticity but I can say it's far from bland and a joy to dig straight into, where some other restaurants in my life I've taken home only to season myself. I know that this place is rated highly and perhaps that is why it was so disappointing. First the good; portion size was great, menu was voluminous, and chicken quesadilla was tasty. The not so good; the quality of ingredients was extremely poor. I had a California Burrito and the steak was the lowest grade possible. The "potatoes" were French fries, and it really seemed like the salsa just really covered the bad ingredients up. Asked for plastic ware and received two forks for my burrito. Not happy with Lucy's at all! First of all they nickel and dime you. I ordered a couple chimichangas and I wanted ground beef instead of their shredded beef and one and they upped charge me $3.50. First of all ground beef is cheaper than shredded beef, so there should be no up charge on that. Second I ordered one with beef beans, rice and cheese and said I just wanted it with nothing on it. I wanted to hold it in my hand. It comes out with cheese all over it and melted on it. then they decide to upcharge me for the beans and the cheese at $.75 on each of them even though it already came on the chimichanga. Then I wanted sour cream on the side and they decided they would charge me $.75 because it was on the side. that would be all fine and dandy but I didn't even get that in my bag. I also paid $2.75 for guacamole that I never received. so all in all I paid over $10 extra for stuff that was already included or I didn't receive. This is total bullshit and it already have been four months before I've been back there before because they screwed up my order last time. This was the third time, and I will never be back again. I am so disappointed in Lucy's. They used to be a great place. If I could give zero stars, I definitely would give them zero stars. All I can say is, they're constantly a disappointment. read more

Lucy's is a food truck which has become so popular that they've taken over a corner of a converted gas station as a seating area for inclement weather. Why can't we have nice tacos in the Northeast? So close to New Mexico, Lucy's delivers the authentic street taco experience of Old Mexico. I had three tacos, all served hot and fresh. The lengua was marinated to smoothness, which I've never tasted in tongue before. The tripa was crunchy and I highly recommend it. The chicharones was full of meat, not fat, and flavor, not salt. The horchata wasn't on the menu but it was nicely spiced and paired well with the dinner. Ask for extra salsa - both red and green will satisfy. Based on these tacos, I would bet you can't go wrong with any item on the menu. And they're open until midnight or later every night! What a find. What a town. read more

THANK GOD FOR YELP!!! I travel through small town Colorado on a regular basis. I've always just eaten the cardboard sandwich at the Subway in La Junta. Yelp lead me to Lucy's tacos, and I couldn't have been happier. This was the absolute best burrito I've had in a very long time. I would never normally eat Mexican food out of a trailer food truck type of setup, but the solid reviews and the long line of people eating here convinced me otherwise. I cannot tell you why the steak burrito was so good, when it was just steak, salsa, and sauce, but it was glorious! I never thought I would say this, but I can't wait to go back to La Junta. Drove through the one in Lamar and it was so good I had to come back to this OG location. Got a breakfast burrito and it was insanely delicious. From Los Angeles and this food is beyond anything I've had there. They are also adhering to COVID guidelines.
