Kara and I were lucky to catch them open Thursday of this week. It has an ample amount of Christmas decor with white flocked Christmas trees, greenery, wreaths, reindeer, ornaments and hidden treasures tucked away. Interlaced are beautiful home goods, boutique clothing, jewelry, dinnerware, soaps, candles, door mats and furniture to name a few. I found a gorgeous buffet and a lovely, white dining table display that was very inviting. If you're a football fan they now have new football team spirit earrings. Great Christmas gift for the sport fans. Many gifts can be found here for Christmas or a few pieces to update your home for the holidays. Persimmon Avenue is only open another four days in December: December 4th, 5th, 11th and 18th. Hours will be 10a-4p on Saturdays and 12:00p-4:00p on Sundays. For starters, Persimmon Avenue has great curb appeal and a charming window display. I'm a sucker for a strong window display. Inside Persimmon Avenue you'll find a variety of gifts and decor ranging from candles and soap to lighting fixtures and blankets. We were especially intrigued by the interior lighting section in the back and found a light we've been eyeing online for $75 less than Wayfair (heyo!). Overall, a very charming shop with great inventory. Easy and free parking found on the street out front. Note to self: this shop is especially cute during the holidays!

A smiling clerk welcomed us and explained the three buildings holding antiques and lamp shades. Brown's has been in business since 1945! I was drawn to the Clay City Pottery with beautiful colors. (Clay City Pottery is local, made on the west side of the state.) My husband honed in on several old political buttons. The antique furniture is lovely - mostly colonial. Prices are reasonable, especially for the quality of the antiques. A small cottage is filled with traditional style lampshades and a few more antiques. The garden that connects the buildings is lovely and peaceful. Old grinding stones are used for the walkways. There are several flights of stairs and the walkways are probably difficult to maneuver in a wheel chair or with a stroller. Street parking is free.

I find the staff and management helpful and the selections good enough for my needs. But we purchased a new patio door there and had it installed. That was mostly a positive experience, both for the sales service & follow up, as well as the door quality and install, with one minor but super annoying issue. There's a strip about 3 inches wide at the base of the footing area where the door frame meets the deck. That strip started to pull up and became a tripping hazard. I assumed this would be a 10 minute fix, either with a screw or glue. No, in fact not. That stupid strip took nearly 5 months to resolve. I'd get texts every day, sometimes twice a day that my part was ready for pickup and then eventually that it would be sent back if I didn't pick it up. That message was meant for the installer not me. I suppose I could have driven to the store and tried to install it myself but I had no intention of doing that on a $6,000 job. Come on Lowe's, do better. For the benefit of others who find themselves in a similar situation, just call the main 800 number, and escalate. That's what worked for me. Good luck!

I found the Starlink…read moreInternet Service system listed for $349.99 on the internet at Best Buy and decided that price point was good enough for me but to my surprise on visiting this store, the actual price was $279.99 due to an early Black Friday sale already in progress on Veterans Day. The purchase includes the satellite dish, the router, and the necessary equipment for a simple DYI install. However, since I am still recovering from hip surgery, I decided to let their installers come out to the house and take care of the installation. I had previously used Best Buy to install a 180 degree swing wall mount and mount a 60 inch TV back in the day when it took two people to pick up the heavier televisions. I was completely satisfied with that job and looked forward to another successful installation involving a lot more work. But the installation didn't happen. Best Buy used a third party company to do the installation. They gave me a 12 hour window installation date of the following day or the day after. I chose the latter to fit my schedule. On that day I received a three hour window late in the day plus a phone call from the installer but he still couldn't make it on time. And he failed to install the equipment blaming Best Buy didn't give him all of the necessary equipment to perform the job. I called the number in the text and spoke to a person with such a heavy accent I was unable to understand what she was saying. She transferred me to someone at Best Buy who couldn't speak much better and could not reschedule me blaming their computer system. Now I am ready to return the Starlink for a full refund. I don't trust the installation company at all because I feel that if your business is installing Starlink systems, you should already have all of the necessary equipment to perform said installation and not rely on the merchant. Therefore I was not willing to reschedule. I did in-fact return the system for a full refund.
