Within minutes of evaluating her feet and watching her walk across the floor, he knew exactly what she was experiencing. I just hate we did not take her to see him sooner. My daughter is eleven years old with flat feet, and growing quite rapidly over these past months. Dr. Dick examined her heels and he knew right that she has Sever's Disease (Heel injury due to growth spurts) or also called calcaneal apophysitis. He also noticed how tight she was, and really took time to talk to us about the importance of proper stretching before and after playing. I highly recommend anyone with heel or foot pain that you go to Abingdon Therapy Services to be evaluated. Dr. Jamie Dick took time to create an exercise plan for our daughter, and worked through it on site to make sure she understood the correct way to do them. He also created hand made insoles in his office before we left molded especially for each foot to be worn in her shoes and cleats. I had been having massive nerve pain in my right arm and shoulder due to nerve pain. I landed in…read morethe ER who did an MRI and a CAT scan and scheduled me with a Neurosurgeon later that week. I went to the Neurosurgeon they briefly looked at my scans, didn't do a physical exam and scheduled me for surgery over a month out....oh and gave me a weeks worth of pain medicine. After a couple of days, I went to Dr. Musick to see if he could help with the pain until surgery. Dr. Musick looked at the scans and examined me, saw that I had pressure on my spine in addition to the nerve, knew he couldn't do anything, but also knew I needed attention faster than a month later. He immediately referred me to another neurosurgeon who saw me the next day and had me in surgery two days later. The doctor found that I had significant muscle loss and risked permanent damage. If I had not seen Dr. Musick who mind you did not charge me for the visit, and had he not recognized the severity of the situation and made an immediate referral, I would still be waiting for surgery to fix my neck. To top it it off Dr. Musick called me post surgery to check on me. I am now pain free, and on the mend. I will go back to Dr. Musick in a couple of months to begin ongoing spinal care. I can not say enough good things and will recommend him to anyone.

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't as positive as I had hoped. During my appointment, I explained my symptoms to Dr. Duncan and he had me do a couple of exercises to assess my strength. However, I struggled with one of the exercises, and instead of offering support or understanding, Dr. Duncan's comment, "come on now, you can do this," felt dismissive. His comment was very unprofessional, and I am thinking "are you kidding me?" Additionally, Dr. Duncan recommended a procedure, but after how he handled my struggle with the exercise, I definitely didn't feel comfortable with him performing any medical procedure on me. I left the appointment feeling uncertain about the next steps. He didn't clearly explain why the procedure needed to be done twice or why it was required by the insurance company, which left me feeling confused and without a full understanding of my options. Even the X-ray he provided had unclear medical notes that I couldn't make sense of, and he didn't offer any explanation to help clarify them. Overall, I felt that Dr. Duncan lacked empathy and a proper bedside manner, which made the experience uncomfortable. I would have appreciated more detailed communication and professionalism. It's important for healthcare providers to listen to patients and clearly explain medical processes. I hope that future visits to Watauga Orthopedics are handled with more transparency and compassion. BTW I haven't received a survey asking about my experience, but I have received several emails regarding my co-pay. I came first in the spring of 2024 using a walker after a series of medical mishaps resulted in 5 fractured vertebrae. Now a year later I have through the help guidance and exercise, left the walker behind, dropped my cane and once again am bipedal and walk unassisted. I still have pain still experience limited movement, but when a year ago I could barely move without a walker, and now I walk unassisted.
