Stumbled upon Cork & Cleaver while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. Captivated by the menu and ambience, decided to stay and eat here instead. As it was late morning during the peak Sunday brunch rush, no seats were available inside so we opted to sit outside. Started with Fried Green Tomatoes (literally the best ever) and followed up with Shrimp & Grits (also fantastic) and a spinach/shrimp/feta omelette. The food quality was high but the customer service needs some improvement. Order two Mimosas, but only one came yet both appeared on the bill. No follow-up after the meals arrived and 20 minutes passed why we waited for plates to be cleared and ask for the check (which we had to do by going inside ourselves). This may be an anomaly and given the high quality of food, I'll certainly give it another shot but there's certainly room to grow. read more

The food was beyond phenomenal and the drinks were divine. Our sever was so friendly and welcoming; he made the experience so much better. I recommended the restaurant to my employer and she said the same "the entire experience was perfection". I cannot recommend enough. read more

Apparently this place only knows how to cook burgers rare. The first time I ordered from here the medium-rare looks exactly as pictured. Figured this time I order medium but only got the same result. Never ordering from here again. read more

Found this stellar place on yelp as we were passing through on vacay. Absolutely everything was amazing. We all had to share our plates. The kids loved it too. Last night my family and I went to eat at Cork & Cleaver and I must say it was phenomenal! We each got something different all the way to the rib eye to the way to the lobster Mac and cheese. We got the fried green tomatoes to start with and I knew it was going to be a great meal! Then after being fully satisfied we ended the night with the bread pudding and OMG! The bread pudding put it over the top!! Best Bread pudding anyone at the table had ever had! Would highly recommend! read more

I had such high hopes of this place. I chose it because the menu looked wonderful and it supposedly could accommodate a medium-to-large group reservation (15 people). The customer service was absolutely terrible, and I will never bring my business back... or any of our groups back again either. It started with the very rude manager who made us feel like an inconvenience when we a asked for 3 real "backed" chairs instead of the bench he gave us. The food literally took 1 hour and 20 minutes to come out... but kudos to them for actually very good for. The waitress got at least 3 orders incorrect-- one of which the manager haughtily came over almost insisting that the patrons actually got their own orders wrong. And the straw at the end was the manger walking off when we shed him to take our group photo. Maybe we didn't look like anything special to him... we probably aren't. But we will never go back. And neither will the event planner who was with us! read more

Over a year ago, my mother, sister, and I had lunch there while on a spa retreat in Montgomery. The customer service was especially wonderful. They catered to our requests with smiles, and provided lots of helpful recommendations (without being pushy). The seafood mac n' cheese was a very large serving and way too yummy for words (and almost decadent)! We had such a great experience there (sitting out on the patio) that we returned that same night for dinner. There was a different server there, but the customer service was again top notch! This year, we are headed back to Montgomery. We will definitely be heading back to Cork & Cleaver for the food and the customer service that is undeniably addictively fantastic! read more

The restaurant seemed to have a nice atmosphere, however, I was only getting pickup...and was disappointed with how my creme brûlée turned out. Seems like they didn't take time to actually put it in a container. Just looked really messy and rushed. Looked like mashed potatoes. read more

Tried to eat at Cork&Clever tonight. Went inside and we were seated and told our server would he with us shortly...shortly never came. Instead we watched the two tables around us be served with drinks (one table twice with drinks), and their food orders taken while we just sat there. After probably 10 minutes of waiting, the wife actually set a timer on her phone for 5 minutes, in that 5 minutes still no one came. At this point we decided to leave. My first experience at Cork & Cleaver was fantastic. I went for brunch at 1pm on a Sunday and sat at the bar. The Bloody Mary was excellent, spicy like I like them, and they use Zing Zang's, which is my fav BM mix. I had the bacon sandwich with Gouda grits. The grits were SUPER creamy and amazing, and the bacon was superb! The next time I went to C&C was again for brunch, this time it was around 10:15am. I loved the meal so much the first time that I had the same thing. Apparently the poached egg for my sandwich had exploded, so they brought me the grits first and then the sandwich a few minutes later. The sandwich was not nearly as good as the first visit, smaller portions, and the grits were more coarse than creamy. My sister had the Conecha Tacos and she loved them. All in all I would say it's very good for the price, but inconsistent. Also, the service was lackluster at the table, but fun at the bar. read more

This place is very modern, hipster chic. The food was presented in a pleasing matter and was full of flavor. The menu contained a variety of options to choose from, including even pasta and grits. What stuck out above all, however, was the phenomenal service my group was given. Our food to table time was maybe 10-15 minutes which was incredible given that we had ordered three burgers plus shrimp and grits - and the portion sizes were very large. Though it was slightly more on the pricier side, I would definitely recommend it for a date night or a nice family outing. Main Highlight - Customer Service. Sat immediately, 2 minutes for drinks to come out and orders to be taken, 10-15 minutes to receive the food, and our waiter checked in periodically and made sure all of our needs were met, providing us with extra salt/pepper, napkins, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup. Straws seemed to be given only per request but that was chalked up to the restaurant being modern as many restaurants now-a-days seem to be doing that as to reduce plastic waste. read more

Way overpriced! If I'm paying that much, I want really great food or at least exceptional service. Both were seriously lacking. The salad was a joke. Very small with soggy, wet spinach. The bun on my friend's burger was crumbling apart, it was so dry. Our waitress was.... really bad. She was kind of obnoxious when she greeted our table. I do appreciate a server's input on the food, but she criticized every aspect of our order, lingering at our table, badmouthing the food, while we were waiting for her to refill our drinks. The food was quite good and the serving sizes were enormous. Our server left a lot to be desired unfortunately; lots of mistakes and reminders were needed. I am generally patient with servers but this was excessive. The salmon was undercooked at first but they were happy to take it back and fix it. Lots of outdoor seating which was pleasant. This place is family owned and the food and service are excellent. We had the wagyu beef and ribeye. The chef noticed that my husbands ribeye had a little too much fat and without us saying a word had the server remove from the bill. She came and apologized personally. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. My husband and I went for a late lunch-- about 2:30. There were 4 other tables in the restaurant although, admittedly, 2 of them were parties of 8 or so. It took 45 minutes to get our appetizers. We ordered the ahi tuna nachos and the pork belly biscuits. The nachos had the potential to be really good, but the ahi wasn't that fresh. The pork belly biscuits were a texture nightmare-- chewy pork that hadn't been braised long enough paired with dry, crumbly biscuits. It was impossible to bite hard enough to get through the pork without dusting your entire lap with biscuit. Luckily, we didn't have to worry much about the subpar apps, since we didn't have time to 'enjoy' them before the kitchen manager delivered our entrees (with no explanation or apology as to the time it took to get our apps). Our entrees (steak sandwich and chicken sandwich) were unremarkable. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. After we got our check, the kitchen manager came over to let us know that he removed our drinks (iced tea) and gave us a 10% discount on our apps for the inconvenience of waiting so long for them. I would've rather him done nothing-- I found it insulting that he thinks taking $5 off our check was worth the 2 hours we wasted in this place. Not how we wanted to spend our 20th anniversary lunch.
