We go to Cornelius to get all of our plants and seeds. Their selection is extensive and just looks so much healthier than the plants and trees you find at the Home Depots of the world. They are a tad pricey on the bags of soil, mulch, etc. but it seems like everything is organic and as natural as possible. We are also always happy with the wealth of information that their staff shares with us so we know we are getting the right plants and doing everything right for them to grow well. We recently went to prepare our garden for the spring and got great tips on planting citrus trees, blueberries and blackberries. I was really excited to try this nursery - and ready to spend a TON of money starting my outdoor garden. I visited today and asked an associate for some assistance choosing some herbs. She was incredibly rude and dismissive. She refused to help me. I was all ready to figure it out myself when I saw her bend over backwards - and get out of her chair to walk over to the back of the nursery- to help a different customer. Succulents and cacti seem to not be taken care of well. Will always find ones that are melting and have signs of being watered wayyyy too often. Besides that it's alright. Would rather go to Buchanon's or Joshua's but if you're close or in the area it's worth visiting if you haven't. read more

Love this nursery because they have a wide array of selection and also have great quality plants. There is so much selection available. For example, I went to Lowes and Home Depot and there were only a few hydrangea plants that were more expensive and of poor quality. I have been coming to Cornelius Nursery for about 6 months now. I'm a novice gardener and have had so many questions but the staff is always attentive and willing to help. Here are a few more pros... Pros Wide selection of unique pots All plants come with great fertilizer Friendly environment Cons Some plants are a little pricey Fountains are way too over priced Also-- most of the plants are outside. So I wouldn't recommend coming here while it's raining. They have an inside portion but it's mostly overpriced floral arrangements and garden knickknacks. I went into the nursery on May 2 looking for a Natchez White crêpe myrtle and a new fountain. Found the fountain but there was no white crêpe myrtles so I ordered one. Called them at 5:00 pm on Monday May 6th and asked if the tree came in. The man said yes the crepe Myrtle was in. He then told me that the first 10 miles for delivery would be $50 after that it's four dollars per mile. Considering I live 22 miles away from the nursery I asked him if it would fit in my suburban. He said no problem so I cleaned out the suburban laid the seats flat grabbed a couple rugs so the tree would not scratch my bumper and during rush hour traffic I drove out to the store. I walked around the store looking for my tree and the man near the trees said we don't have any white crepe myrtles. The manager said he would look around. That manager never got back to me but another man said no we don't have it let me call the Katy store. Well they didn't have one either but the manager that I spoke too never came back, never asked is there anyway they could help. He just never came back so needless to say I am very very dis-pleased with the way the store handle this matter. read more

The number of nurseries in Houston has greatly diminished so I am so glad Cornelius Nursery still has a location in Houston.They have healthy plants and people who know something about them. The prettiest and biggest nursery I ever did see! Not only that, but their customer service is outstanding. Willie was able to answer all of the questions I had. He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff! He is also funny! The girl at the register, Cat, also provided great customer service and was not annoyed with the questions I had. Nice selection. A little pricey. Significant challenges with customer service. Cornelius has a nice selection of plants and gifts. We went to get a Christmas tree the Friday after Thanksgiving. The 6-7 foot were $120 which is on the high side, but the trees were in pretty good shape. They were understaffed - it took about 30 minutes to get someone to explain how to tag/buy the tree, and a long line at checkout. We ran into a problem after we paid because they had a long wait to get the trees loaded. You were supposed to wait in a line of cars - there were only 7 or 8 cars - and pull forward into the tree loading area. We pulled up behind a woman who told us she had been there and hour and the line had not moved. I thought she was exaggerating, so I waited 30 minutes and they managed to get a single car loaded. We were not in a huge hurry, but we had already been there over an hour and had another commitment. Sadly, it was faster to have them refund our payment and leave without our tree. read more

I LOVE Cornelius! The Hispanic worker there is wonderful! Every time I go, he helps me by explaing the specials or in-season plants. Once he even asked if I wanted some plants that he couldn't keep on stock, and he even offers the shoppers complimentary bottled water. My husband and son took me here for Mothers day where they had a free Mommy and child flower planting activity. It was really nice. While there, I picked out some beautiful flowers that are still growing in our sunroom now. The staff was nice and helpful and seemed knowledgeable. I will definitely be back! read more

Love the location and its proximity to my home. I have dealt with only one staff member there on the several occasions that I have gone and the knowledge that was passed on to me was so helpful. For once, because of this direction, I have plants that are growing and not dying. I love being able to grow herbs that I can use in healthier cooking! One change I wish that I could make is one of the entrances to the parking area. There is a hard angle between Voss and the parking lot that I am sure will eat the front of my car one day. Poor selection, horrible customer service! Staff there are rude and incompetent--they don't seem to know the difference between an herb and a shrub. When you call on the phone, you get forwarded to 5 different people and then told to hold with no one willing to help you. I recently moved to this area and was excited to find out there was a plant store down the street. I've purchased a couple of plants here and had one that was giving me a bit of trouble. When I first came in to ask for help on how to care for the plant the staff was very nice and gave good tips. Fast forward, the same plant is still giving me problems so I went back into the store to ask if they could help me repot the plant. Note, there's literally a sign that says "pick a plant and we'll pot it". So I was very confused to be met with such unfriendliness when I politely asked for help from the lady at the desk. Who in my honest opinion would've completely ignored me had I not spoke up because she didn't even acknowledge me the whole time I was standing in front of her until I said something. Overall they have nice plants and decent prices but customer service is spotty plus Tall Plants is 10 mins away and they were more than happy to help me save my plant. read more

This long-time Houston Jewel is about as close to a Roger's Gardens (Newport Beach, CA) as we have. I grew up going here, but of course, today's Cornelius is part of a chain now, and sits in a vast new building that replaced the original which I believe, burned down years ago. This is the place to go for more unusual plants, but unless money is not a concern, I would skip the norm. I was excited to find right at the front door, Heartbeat Hibiscuses! This hybridized variety, created by Houston's very own and famous Barry Schluetter, is hard to find. I have one I planted 5 years ago that produces dinner plate sized, 3 day long, blood red blooms. It has always recovered from our few recent freak snow winters, even growing back from the roots on two occasions. They were, however, pricy, at $29.95 each. Wow, I paid about $15. from Loews originally, and it was a larger plant. They also had several other unusual fancy varieties for those as obsessed with these plants as I. Further in the door, the lovely scent of multiple species of lilies in bloom pervaded, an enchanting spice to the perfect H-town spring afternoon. A feast of live orchids (on sale) in about as many varieties as I found at a wholesale nursery on the big island, tempted with their come-hither colors. Small topiary bunnies with live ivy winked at me, beckoning me to SPEND. No! I told myself. I have to stay on budget. So hard to do when faced with the beauty of spring under this roof. This nursery has THE healthiest plants I've ever seen. They look fake, they are that good. The layout makes it a walk in the park instead of a garden center experience. I was asked multiple times if I needed help, by pleasant attendants. The inside shop was nice, but could stand some tweaking. It really didn't have much merchandise for the square footage. What they did have was off the charts $$. This is a fun place to go for holidays as they decorate and sell holiday decor. I do wish they would take a page from Rogers Gardens, which is THE best 'nursery' I have ever been to, though it too can be pricey. I really enjoyed my time here today, and it was worth the trek into town, and the expense, to find and experience the more unusual. read more

The handsome new building at the Voss location houses a fine nursery. Since Tea's has closed, this may well be my go-to nursery to find new and unusual items, a complement to my regular trips to HCG. Their connection with Monrovia is a real plus, as I can often research items on the Monrovia web site, then purchase them at Cornelius. An extra star would be rewarded if congestion at the entrance were remedied, and especially if the piped-in music were changed to something less geriatric. read more

I've been going to Cornelius for twenty something years because they usually have good quality plants and flowers. But their customer service has gone downhill so much lately! All the old ladies working in the garden area are really impatient, unhelpful and downright rude!!! This is NOT the same Cornelius that used to be before the fire burned it down. They used to have courteous and knowledgeable people who would answer questions, diagnose problems with your plants and help you find treatment for them (I remember one such lady named Lynn). It used to be a pleasant experience going there. But now, the place is filled with cranky and rude women who act like they couldn't wait to get rid of you. What's up with that? Cornelius, if you want to stay in business and keep your customers coming back then do something about it! Just got back from Cornelius with terrible customer service. I brought in two leaves from holly and magnolia trees because there were signs of disease. I already googled and diagnosed the problems but just want an expert opinion and treatments. Met an older lady who confirmed diagnoses. She then showed me some products to treat. I asked if there was liquid or granules to apply at base of tree instead of having to spray entire large trees. However the granules had for lawn and garden so I asked her if it is ok to use on my trees. She said "I know this whole section and that they hire me not to kill ur trees". I said I am just trying to know if it would treat my tree problems and not to challenge her knowledge. Then she said just read the bag. I asked her another question regarding scales and insects in general and whether the second product would kill other bugs. She again got offended and basically said she knew this area of products and walked off!!! WTF!! What kind of nursery is this??? There was another Cornelius on Dairy Ashford which unfortunately is closed that had much better personnel with an information desk with informative and pleasant experts. Will not return here for sure. There are way too many nurseries with same or similar cheaper products to go to. Money is not the issue since Cornelius is always more expensive but having to deal with a witch is the kicker here!!! read more
