Soon after my underwhelming experience at the Corn Palace, the Cornerstone Coffee House Deli was nearby. It was part ice cream parlor and part souvenir store. My mind wanted ice cream, but it was mid afternoon and the temps were past 90's F in Labor Day weekend 2023 here in Mitchell, South Dakota. My experience here at the Cornerstone House Deli was maybe 45 minutes. There was a family that was buying ice cream and they hovered around the ice cream freezer display, arguing what flavors are good and what was tasty. Got a good listen before deciding to have ice cream elsewhere, preferably when the temps head south for the day. I wandered around the rest of the shop and discovered these cool looking key chains that were in the shape of Indian arrow heads. Thought that was cool and was labeled South Dakota. These are the kind of souvenirs I enjoy buying and not just t-shirts or mugs that display the name of the town or landmark. Something unique is what I am generally after and thank you Cornerstone House Deli for providing me this. The price is based on your usual souvenir you'd find in most gift shops and at the airport. I paid $8 per and thought it was a nice spicy souvenir from my quick trip to South Dakota. The store itself was quite small, but very cozy. He basically had much of anything that you would want, namely, souvenirs, and basic household, because you would want to furnish a home with. Although this could be just a random assortment of stuff to sell, it is a quick little shop in the heart of Mitchell, South Dakota. I believe that the ice cream parlor is a big draw for them, and no one can deny a good ice cream anytime of the day, anytime of the season. But then again, chocolate is my fave anyway, anywhere at any time. Too bad though, I did not get a chance to settle their chocolate. Maybe next time. The overall experience here at the Cornerstone House Deli was quite nice and quaint. The lone staff who had managed the register for both the ice cream parlor and the gift shop that Sunday afternoon was very friendly and probably in high school age. It was during Labor Day weekend, so I'm sure that the hours were most suitable for anyone who wanted to work during the summer time here in Mitchell. The store is self was very organized and clean for your viewing pleasure, just because it was so intoxicating to be in and of course you can shop at your hearts content. For the most part, though, they experience here was very anti-climatic because he was just a gift shop, and I did not want to go to the airport and one around there. Do you have time here on a Sunday afternoon so we went here and I found what I was looking for anyway. And maybe at a cheaper price. Who knows? It was awesome anyway. And so, if you are in the area and one, ice cream, souvenirs from South Dakota, and a visit to the nearby, corn Palace, consider coming here to the cornerstone House deli, ice cream, Potter and gift shop. It has a bit of everything that you want. Ice cream, souvenirs, and something to look at while you are here in South Dakota. Granted, there's nothing much else to do around here anyway. Definitely recommended if we are in the area and want to shop here for stuff and have ice cream as well. The cornerstone house deli is located at 123 E Main St., in downtown Mitchell, South Dakota. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. I was bummed that I missed out on the ice cream but I had my ice cream later in the day at a Culver's nearby after dinner. As far as parking goes, best bet is to use the local area parking at the corn Palace and any street parking that is available around the area available for use. I'm not sure about local public transportation around Mitchell, South Dakota, but best bet is to use a rental car or your own. If you driven to the area I don't think Amtrak comes through this area anyway, so, A car is basically only the thing to use. However, there's always Uber/Lyft if you can find availability during your time here. Pretty sure you can find Greyhound to get to Mitchell, but after that, you're basically on your own after that. It is a nice store to grab whatever you need. While they serve ice cream, they probably don't have anything else in terms of food or drinks, although I don't remember seeing anything else while I was there. It's a cute store for anyone who is a tourist. Ice cream and souvenirs. It's a nice place to shop. Definitely recommended if you are in the area for business or pleasure. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. What a smart location to open up shop! The aesthetics is new and modern, different from the corn palace. I just visited the corn palace gift shop and didn't see anything I liked. I checked this place out and found so many cute souvenirs. Kyle, the young lady working at the cafe was such a sweetheart! So friendly and provided top notch customer service. I ordered an iced hazelnut latte and their 4 cheese bagel. It hit the spot! I had a 3 hour drive ahead of me back to Sioux Falls so I needed a pick me up. There is meter parking and other shops to check out. This place is pretty cool. Reminds me of a little cafe in Long Beach or LA. I appreciate that when traveling. read more

Popped in to grab a frozen lemonade. They had a lot of flavors. Also a great place to take an exterior shot of the Corn Palace. Nice staff plus the cold drink is just what we needed on a hot day. :) read more

Stopped here for the awesome bagels, yummy oatmeal, and artisanal pastries. This is THE place in Mitchell to relax and have some great coffee. Also free WiFi and a great community vibe. read more

The building is clean and attractive and my breve was decent. But my oatmeal was lukewarm and lumpy and my husbands cream cheese was rancid.

Nice place to come and read. Tea is only ok. Edit. The coffee is really good and I enjoy just sitting here watching the people come and go read more

Probably the slowest coffee shop I've ever been to. Stood in line for 10 minutes behind 3 customers - granted, they were all ordering food for families, and with just 2 employees, the wait was understandable. But then I was given my cup with a shot and told to help myself...and there was no coffee. Took nearly 15 minutes to make a fresh pot. Then, no cream out (quickly remedied). 25 minutes to get a cup of coffee, at a coffee shop, is excessive. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Desperately in need of coffee we pulled off of the freeway into Mitchell, SD. The town was pretty much dead that sunday morning. We spotted a coffee shop, but it was closed! Just when i was throwing my hands against the car window in despair, a man came out of the shop. ...technically the place was closed, but i guess he saw the pain in our faces and offered to make us coffee! We were so thankful... the shop was adorable and the coffee was great- obviously the service was friendly and fantastic. If it was in my hometown i would definitely become a regular! read more

Was traveling for work and the hotel recommended this coffee shop. Adorable decor very clean open and bright. Wifi with lots of plugs and outlets. Love the poster explaining visually what goes into each ingredient of the many fancy coffee drinks. The only thing stopping 5 stars is that the employee at the counter didn't know anything about the teas they offer. read more

Staff/owner great. Bad leak in ceiling, place smelled yuck. They should have closed. Husband described coffee as "hotel coffee" and my cap was dumped out. No foam, no raw sugar, bagel barely toasted. Do not recommend. 2 stars for friendliness. read more

A very disappointing experience. There was no coffee in the thermos and no cream out. We had to ask for the coffee and the cream. Poor customer service. Then we had to wait for them to brew the coffee which they added water to and it was already too weak. 25 minutes for a cup of coffee in a coffee shop is not acceptable read more
