My first time here was excellent! I got the maple brown sugar cinnamon latte and it was perfection! So cozy and the girls who work here are so sweet.

There are so many amazing coffee shops in the kansas city area, and every time I try a new one it…read morebecomes my favorite. This one was no exception, but I do believe it might remain the reigning champion. First of all it is a coffee shop in the basement of a church, and its name implies that it is religious. So the reviews that act surprised or give lower ratings for that reason are silly gooses. The ambiance is outstanding! It is a whole vibe. You are surrounded by books, some of the tables have pew seating, there is a kids area, they sell T shirts cheap ($7) and used books at an amazing deal. New books are priced as marked with regular retail pricing. I was shocked at the number if new hooks they had. The crowning jewel for me was they have natural house made (or local bought) syrups so you are not getting a run of the mill commercially based anything. I expected that to limit their menu but it didn't! I had the caramel crunch chai, hands down best chai I have ever tasted. I wanted to chug it. My friend loved her drink that had winter mint! I also splurged on a winter pomegranate spritz and cake pops to go. This is a coffee shop where you come in, slow down and enjoy the experience. I do not recommend this place if you want a quick coffee to go. The Barista was exceptional and she put time and effort into each drink. She did get backed up because she was all alone when a coworker called in and got slammed! She was clearly overwhelmed but never once rushed a conversation or made any of the customers feel like she didn't have time for them. Rare beauty in this rushed world we live in. She encouraged checking out the gorgeous sanctuary and stained glass windows upstairs in the sanctuary and shared stories about them. I never once felt like I was in a church basement- if that makes sense. It was warm, cozy and inviting. This is my new weekly spot! PS the kids area has a full tote of scrapbooking stuff, and the tables all have cards where you can write up a handwritten note and they send them of somewhere to spread joy and kindness. It does not get better than this.

The last I knew that the space had been an events / wedding hall, a B and B and vacant. Little did I know was that it had been reformed as an Anglican church and the coffee shop was being ran by the church in the basement. The vibe was just kinda weird...it's basically a cluttered Christian book store and gift shop serving coffee and sandwiches. The staff were polite but not very welcoming; I felt like I was intruding on a private function that didn't want me there. I took my Mocha Cream Breve' and went out on the patio for some views of the beautiful historic structure. When asked about their source for coffee beans, I was told "we get em from someplace in Arkansas". OK!?? I'm sure that some demographic here in the bible belt will find this basement quaint and charming, but it just gave me a desire to go spend my money at a more secular venue.

It surrounded by windows, which is nice and they have a cool overhead display of tons of white coffee mugs at varying he suspended above. The coffee was good, my husband had a hot honey badger latte with oat milk, and I had an iced honey badger latte with oat milk. We both enjoyed them. The service was not very good. I originally went to the counter to pick up a menu and look at it before we walked over since my grandson was playing in the children's area. I wasn't even standing by the cash register, but standing to the side and the young girl that worked there was rude and asking if I needed anything. I just told her that I was looking at the menu prior to coming back to order and then asked about any syrup for a tea. So then eventually, we did go back and she was rude that time, but not only to me but pretty much everyone that walked up there. She was the only worker so I don't know if she felt overwhelmed, even though there wasn't a ton of people coming up there or if that was her regular attitude. But barista's make up a good portion of whether people enjoy a space. The table and chairs were contemporary basic and for some reason in that particular coffee shop I felt like everyone was on view and really didn't seem like you had privacy. So we chose to take our coffee into the Knies library area against a large window that overlooked prairie, grasses, and wildflowers and enjoyed it there. So I would say a five star for the coffee, but it's getting a three star for the barista, the two times that I interacted with her and the seating.

They have added Messenger Coffee drinks and expanded their pastry and small bite savory items with a seperate menu. It was a bit confusing for my first time visit, which door do I enter? Do I order at the kiosk? Do I wait to be seated? Some signs would surely help. After wandering around in both dining rooms and looking at a menu at the kiosk, I was finally approached and was seated in the cafe. The room has a relaxed feel with cozy chairs and tables, a few plants and books and some comforting classical music playing. I was immediately brought a water glass by my stylishly dressed waiter. I started asking a few questions about the menu, when he asked me to follow him to the other room where I could see the variety of baked goods in the glass warming case. I made my selection and was soon brought my ham and cheese Medialuna (small croissant), a Fat Biscuit (baked rolled dough) and my cappuccino. Pricing is a bit high but the service and atmosphere was above average and the vibe was relaxing after I understood the ordering system, and the menu was unique. A great little coffee / brunch option for the Tiffany Springs / Zona Rosa / MCI area.
