The complex this business is located is absolutely gorgeous! That sets a tone of happiness the second you drive up and get out of your car. The inside of the building is pristine! There are seating areas in the main lobby. The atmosphere is quite calm and peaceful. Bathrooms were easy to locate and very clean. The elevators operate quickly....its only a few floors, but I have been in elevators that took forever to operate with only 2 floors. I was immediately greeted by two genuinely friendly faces the moment I crossed the threshold to the business. I no sooner mentioned what my business there was, and they said my name (excellent pronunciation too) and escorted me to the conference room reserved for our business. I had a bad experience with the Whipp Team at Cornerstone lending. They charged me points for a non-discounted loan, baited and switched the interest rate, and attempted to charge nearly $5,000 in loan origination fees for a relatively modest loan with great credit. My loan officer also had a bad attitude and lied. I still have her emails to prove it. Do your own research, but I would not trust them based on my own experience. read more

Never got a call I called back Two weeks later and they said they still are waiting for one paper so I sent it three ways and told them to call that day if they didn't get it. Attempted a loan through this company through the referral of a realtor. Website says they are great with people with special situations. That would be us- self-employed for 15 years. Somehow, even though we nearly had enough money in our bank account to purchase the home we were interested in, and managed to buy a dozen houses in MS, never missing one payment on any of them in 15 years, they couldn't help us. The worst thing, I didn't get the sense that they tried or offered any solutions. So, I suppose if you're a classic 40-hour/week employee, they can help you. Paul was very upfront with how the loan process works and what happens after closing. The purchase of a home is public record, so yes, we've been getting notice after notice from other companies wanting us to insure our mortgage, etc., and in six months we'll get a whole new round of solicitations to refinance. That's just how it works! That does not mean that Cornerstone has sold our info to anyone. We also had four home security companies at our door within four days of closing. Que sera sera. I was very disappointed with how our loan application was handled. My husband is a pharmacist and is employed for a company via a contract. He also has a part time job for a company that he has worked with for 20 years. After having given us a prequalification letter, they walked it back because they wouldn't be able to sell our loan since my husband is a contract employee. We make good money, we have excellent credit, and they refused to look at that just because they couldn't differentiate between a contract employee and a temporary employee. I was able secure a loan through our bank and they didn't bat an eye at his employment. Unfortunately, we lost out on the house we had our hearts set on because Steve Daniels' team was more worried about how quickly the could sell our loan and not the people they would have been providing the loan to. So thank you for making us miss out on an opportunity to live in the neighborhood my parents live in. I can't tell you how frustrating you made this entire process. read more

Based on our pre-approval, Cornerstone quoted us 4 or 5 different closing options, with varying closing costs and interest rates; we chose one. We worked with Sam Bursch's team. A few months later we closed at a couple of interest points lower than the quote, and with slightly lower closing costs. That is pretty accurate and transparent. No bait and switch or high pressure sales techniques. The team was consistent and competent. They handle the process systematically so we always knew what to expect. At times it was stressful, so little miscommunications and minute details seemed like a huge deal. But they were always professional, calm, and available to communicate. Ultimately, they're just good at their jobs, which is all that matters. We worked with a couple of other lenders, but found them either too high pressured and dishonest, or unavailable. Ultimately, we went with Cornerstone for those reasons. That is what they mean when they say that they are "local." They have a local reputation to protect, and don't try aggressive sales tactics. In fact, their estimates were a little high, which I much prefer over some of the other lenders false promises. Additionally, they are local in a more traditional sense - when you call or email l, someone always answers, etc. The lending process was not fun in general, but Cornerstone makes it as low-key and tolerable as possible. They said they were going to do something, and then they did it. Good for their word. Rare breed in the lending industry. Five stars. read more
