I feel a bit silly for having just recently discovered this park, but what an awesome find. How did…read moreI not realize this was here sooner? So there's an awesome petting zoo and train that you can pay to enjoy but the rest of the park is just as incredible. There's a shallow creek that runs the length of the park. It's honestly one of the best places for kids to just free play safely in the summer. Lots of great trees for parents to chill under while the kids enjoy the water. It's a perfect picnic spot for sure. Go make a day of it! There's also a traditional playground near the petting zoo and train station. My kids said the water is cold but on a hot day, it's the perfect activity. There are restrooms as well. There's some covered seating with picnic tables but it's just easier to bring a nice blanket and find a tree to camp under (or bring some outdoor chairs). We did the petting zoo recently too. It's $3 per person for the petting zoo for anyone over the age of 2. Same price for the train. You can do one and not the other. Tickets can be purchased on site or online. They give you one token per ticket for each activity. So you can only go through the petting zoo once and take the train once on a paid ticket. The petting zoo has cows, pigs, a duck, goats, alpacas, chickens, etc. It's fairly small, but a good way to expose city kids to sweet tempered farm animals. My kids loved the train! It does a nice big loop around the park. And the best part is the tunnel you go through at the end. The train is also beautiful - pretty green, shiny train. I would say the only down side is parking. I've ended up parking at the Pirates Cove area both times I've gone. There's simply not enough spots. Go early in the morning if you want to enjoy otherwise you might be completely out of luck.

It always seems busy, not too crazy, but it's obvious this is a favorite park for lots of families and those that keep an active lifestyle! I got a chance to walk some of the trails, and although it could get pretty hot in the sun (depending on the time of year/day), the shade from the trees are well worth the walk. Lots of runners, walkers, cyclists, and although I didn't see any, there are equestrians too. Watch out for horse poop! :) For the most part everyone seems to follow good trail etiquette and will let you know if they are going to pass. The kids love the playground, and if you like to shoot some hoops or play tennis, this place has everything. Note: parents/guardians need to watch their kids AND make sure they practice good etiquette themselves. If your kid is doing wrong, please discipline accordingly. Just because you kid is on the playground and throwing stuff they aren't supposed to (and you obviously know this is happening), do something about it. This really is an awesome park! Families and Active Peeps, this is your place!!!!

It has multiple playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts and pavilions. Motorized traffic can enter on University street next to Goodson Rec Center. Pedestrians and Bicycles can use the popular Highland Canal Trail that intersects and traverses several sections of the park. I really enjoy every time I come here and intend to come here much more.
