She sent me to have three teeth removed. While I was waiting for those sites to heal I lost the tip of another. I went in to have the tip repaired and she also did purely cosmetic fillings on the outside surface with the warning it might not last. She was right. It didn't. I paid over $800 for a gloss that fell out after two weeks. It's been a year now and the tip repair has fallen out, too. I had a partial plate with six teeth built for almost $2K. I can't wear it. It gives me a speech impediment. She said, "Oh, just read the newpaper outloud." There is so much plastic I can't find my alveolar ridge to form an l, n, d, or t. There is even plastic on the back surface of the upper front teeth, that I can't form an Italian l either. I'm a voice professional and must be able to perform in Italian, French, and English as well as demonstrate to my students. The only positives about the office are the delightful woman in the front office and the very healthy croton that gets morning sunshine through the window. Avoid at all costs. Here's the revised review with your additional details:…read more --- **Avoid This Dental Office at All Costs!** I had the absolute worst experience here. I walked in with a tooth causing me excruciating pain, hoping for relief. I specifically requested sedation for the extraction due to a traumatic past experience with my wisdom teeth. Instead, I was told I had to wait nine days to see Dr. Jason. When I returned, I faced yet another obstacle: a $175 consultation fee just to be seen again, meaning another seven days of agony. Frustrated and in unbearable pain, I decided to go through with the extraction without sedation. What followed was a nightmare. The pain was indescribable as Dr. Jason struggled with my tooth, breaking it in the process. I was screaming in agony, and two young girls in the waiting room even told their dad, "No way!" and left. I had to take 45-minute breaks just to catch my breath, while the staff had the audacity to yell at me to be quiet! I arrived for my 9:45 AM appointment and didn't leave until after 3 PM--all for one molar. It's clear this place prioritizes money over patient care and is full of liars. Now, when their commercial comes on TV, I relive that horrific experience, and my heart races with anxiety. Do yourself a favor and find a different dentist. No one should have to endure what I went through here! YOU KNOW THAT GUY IN THE DENTIST CHAUR AT THE ROCHESTER MUSEUM SCREAMING IN AGONY THAT WAS ME

Absolutely awful experience. Condescending, unprofessional, and patronizing--this list goes on. The…read morerest of the staff were wonderful: inviting, friendly, and professional. However, Maria Marzo was an absolute nightmare to deal with. She treated her staff poorly throughout our visits. While we were in a private room speaking with the manager about the treatment we had received, she entered to drop off paperwork. During that time, a hygienist came in to get her for something else, and she snapped, "Get out!" Her tone was harsh and dismissive. On multiple occasions, we witnessed her speaking to staff in a similar manner. The atmosphere immediately shifted when she entered the room--staff who were previously smiling and joking became quiet and visibly anxious. We also overheard her lecturing staff in a very self-righteous and condescending way. I have many other concerns as well, including the repeated video she requires patients to watch of herself, which came across as unnecessary and uncomfortable. Most concerning, when she learned we had a specific personal preference regarding treatment, she abruptly stated she would refuse to continue our care. This resulted in two wasted appointments and time taken off work. Overall, I would not recommend this practice based on her behavior toward both patients and staff. I understand she often responds to reviews, so I will simply say this: there is nothing further you can do to change our experience. Your behavior was unprofessional and dismissive, and it reflects poorly on the practice. I genuinely hope your staff find employment in an environment where they are treated with respect and not made to feel intimidated or degraded. Good Riddance! Zero stars

I'm terrified of dentists so I can't be sure what the rest of the conversation was, but that comment was a concern for me (thinking "why did he say that?) The staff is very nice. I had an appointment just before 4pm. I did not have to wait. They took x rays, and these were x rays I have never seen before. They took the regular ones (the black and white ones) but then they took some that were actually color photos of my teeth. The dentist showed me these on a large tv screen (which was on the wall in front of the dental chair). He showed me the areas of concern; why they concerned him and what should be done to correct the problem. When I was done the receptionist gave me an estimate for the procedures I needed done. ($3000 for two crowns) The only problem I encountered was that I called before scheduling an appt to see if they accepted our dental insurance. I was told they "Accepted" it. Apparently, I did not understand that there is a difference between "we accept it" and "being a provider" (ok, lesson learned). The receptionist was kind enough to explain that what that means is that we (my husband had an appt too) pay out of pocket for the procedures done and they file the claim with the insurance company for us (so we don't have to) and then the insurance company will reimburse us. This was a BIG surprise for me and thankfully we were able to cover it. I like this dentist but paying out of pocket for entire bill is the only negative

The staff were genuine, attentive, and professional -- you can feel when a clinic truly values patients, and this one does. My first visit was excellent. The care team listened, took their time, and never made me feel rushed. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and relaxed. Staff encouraged and reinforced positive habits rather than shaming anyone for what they "should" be doing -- a huge difference compared to other places. The first set of x-rays was essentially free (saving me hundreds), which stunned me. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough, careful, and patient. This is how dentistry should feel: professional, compassionate, and centered on care -- not billing. I highly recommend Gorges Dentistry to anyone in Ithaca looking for quality dental care.

I have an Excellus plan through the marketplace. They initially told me that I would receive a reimbursement check in 4-6 weeks... That time had passed so I called back and someone said they would get back to me later that day (no one ever did...). I waited another WEEK and had to call back again. When I spoke to a person this time they had trouble looking me up because the person initially taking down my information had it completely wrong... same birthday (month/day) but wrong year, same first name, but wrong last name, and the wrong street address (but the same street number...). Very odd and unprofessional - it seemed like they were trying to multitask or looking at information from two different sheets... It made enough sense to confirm it was me, but had SO MANY errors. Either way once that was resolved she said I would get a check for reimbursement withing a week. Another Week goes by and nothing so I call back AGAIN! And this time I find out that they cannot submit the claim because its through the state (I don't know how they missed that on my initial visit, but they did.) SO I had to call insurance and submit the claim on my own just to find out that Gorges dental was "out of network" - so now Im stuck paying "out of pocket". I WOULD AVOID THIS DENTIST AT ALL COST IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE THROUGH EXCELLUS, OR ANY PLAN THROUGH "THE STATE".

Called up Dr. Zax's office and the appointment making process was pleasant and quick. That's where the positivity of this review ends. I also want to preface this review with the fact that I am NOT one of those people who is terrified of the dentist. I have never been afraid of any doctor. I spent nearly three hours at their office from start to finish. For a CLEANING! A Cleaning! Waited in the waiting room for a half an hour. Sat in the torture chair for an hour and a half. Waited another half an hour for the doctor to review the Grim Reaper's work. Waited ten minutes for doctor to get off of her cell phone. Listened to the doctor try to convince me for another ten minutes that I "might" have a cavity (I am 42 years old and have never had a cavity) and that I will need to come back and get it "fixed" for a few more hundred dollars. The rooms were freezing. Maybe they need to be, I don't know. The dental assistant proceeded to tell me everything that my previous dentist had done wrong in the last twenty years. Picked at my teeth with her mouth-hatchet for far longer than I've ever had anyone do in the past. My entire mouth was sore for two days (again, a first) and I had a headache for 24 hours after that appointment. The receptionist is very cheery. So thanks for that. Good music in the office too. Yeah, that's all I got.
