Finally writing a review for CoRo. Coffees are good, but not good enough to overcome the fact that every time I've come here (quick takeout if I'm passing through Berkeley), the service never changes. The staff here are just super unfriendly and unwelcoming. As in friendly with each other, but then present to customers as flat and uninterested like they're an inconvenience. It's amazing how that never changes considering the staff turnover that a coffee shop would get. Another mention -- with CoRo gaining popularity, there's been queues out the door in the mornings. People do use this cafe as a workspace, therefore seating can be limited and there's no policy (yet?) to help clear up tables. So the coffees start becoming a bit expensive to show up and have to take it to-go. read more

While exploring Berkeley in search of a great cup of coffee, we stopped by Coro Coffee Room. We ordered the Mocha and a Caramel Latte with a Coro Espresso Shot, and both were absolutely worth trying. The drinks were smooth, rich, and beautifully crafted, you can really taste the care that goes into every cup. I came in and saw two police officers order coffee. An employee refused to serve them. The man asked if they can get a pastry, to which the female employee said no one on shift will serve police. Whether it's company policy or employees personal political views, I won't be coming back. Refusing to service the same people you will call in an emergency is fundamentally self defeating and a bad look for a public facing business. Take your business elsewhere. read more

My CoRo Coffee Room rose latte with maybeck blend (dark chocolate, citrus, marshmallow) was off the chart good. Worth way more than the $6.75 I paid. The nice barista explained that the coffee menu changes frequently. The single origin coffees cost $1 more. She said it gets really busy, but I got there at just the right time to order without waiting in line. Free Wi-Fi with seating inside and out. The plentiful availability allowed me to find a seat on the sidewalk that allowed me to catch a few rays with my latte on a sunny day. Such goodness. Lots of folks there working on their laptops inside. A mom happily nursing and some folks lost in conversation outside. There my soul received the sweet caress of a perfectly balanced rose latte. We came on a Sunday late morning and there was a line out the door. Luckily, the line moved fast and the counter is close-by the entrance of the cafe. We ordered an iced mocha and two of their pastries. I thought the coffee tasted pretty solid, it wasn't too sweet and the pastries was really good. The baristas seemed friendly, there were a lot of regulars that was able to skip the line because the barista knew their orders already (no shade!) There are plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It's super cool that they roast their own beans in-store. read more

My morning at CoRo made me want to spend more time in cafes. I ordered a pot of Kyoto Bancha (Temple Pine) sourced from Blue Willow and it was expertly prepared. I didn't have time to get a second infusion of water, but it was offered to me. This place was buzzing on a Monday morning but I was lucky enough to nab a table inside. I didn't use the wifi but judging from the number of laptops around me, it works. Also, if you're looking for outdoor seating, they've got plenty of it. read more

We came on a Sunday morning and it was busy, with a line out the door and about a 35 minute wait from getting in line to getting our drinks. Parking was easy though, with plenty of street parking nearby. The person at the register was friendly and gave helpful tips and recommendations. While waiting, we spent time watching the co-op roasting facility in the back through the glass windows. That is what really makes this place stand out. There is indoor seating but at 11 am it was completely full! There was some outdoor seating that was open. We tried the rose latte and it was spot on. The rose flavor was subtle and well balanced, not overpowering at all and the coffee was delicious! The only downside was that there were no gluten free pastries available that day, although I have heard they sometimes offer them. Overall, great coffee, a relaxed vibe, and a unique experience that is worth checking out and we will be back! read more

A favorite in Berkeley! I've since moved away, but each time I visit the area, I make a stop here. The coffee drinks are fantastic. The inside is cozy. A little challenging to find seats, but I've always been able to grab a table outside. Not the place for big groups or if you want a quick drink. God I love this place but something's I want to give it 10 stars other times I want to give them negative 10 stars. The actual coffee is good but the wait times are always a problem. Do not go here if you are in a hurry. The lay out of the store is awkward they don't create as way for the line or entrance to be comfortable everyone just piles up at the door. The staff is ok most of the time they are kind but they have delusions are grandeur that you would think they are in an operating room. Maybe that's just a defense mechanism who knows. I will go back but the entire experience would be unproved if they got a new location one that is not crammed has parking and the bathroom door is more hidden away from customers. OH one other thing, the prices the have hidden fees that need to be advertised shame on them for that. read more

This place is incredibly dog friendly! Great seating outdoors to enjoy the weather and street parking is available. My family and I tried a variety of different drinks. I had the house made masala chai and it was perfectly sweetened and perfectly spicy. Highly recommended! Customer service was great! read more

Their lattes are pretty good though if you're looking to do work there, I would recommend elsewhere! Great spot to study at! Came here to get some work done and there was ample seating indoors. Not overly loud. The free wifi was pretty fast and I didn't have issues. There were outlets under some tables as well. It does get kind of cold bc when we went they were blasting the AC so maybe bring a jacket! For drinks we ordered an iced latte and a yuzu matcha tonic. The latte was great--they roast their coffee beans in house I think. The yuzu matcha tonic was refreshing, though I did feel like it was just a little too bitter for me. Not sure if I'd get it again. For food we ordered the sticky bun and raspberry vegan muffin. The sticky bun was really good and the raspberry vegan muffin was even better! read more

I came by on a weekday at 3PM, right before closing--really wish I knew about this place before! I ordered one of specials from their spring menu, the caramel latte! This was delicious--I normally like my coffees a little stronger with less sweetness and this was a great ratio for my taste buds. The interior is stunning--the natural lighting in the space makes the cafe feel roomy, and the windows make it feel more spacious. Amazing artisan drinks and really cool staff. I love the vibe of this place even the customers are friendly. It seems really high end and the pastries rock as well. In the past I had been on the fence about this place, however I feel this is a situation in which the business just took a huge turn for the better. They roast coffee as well as have high end brands for sale to take home. Their espresso with a dollop of whipped cream is my fav plus the everything roll. I love this establishment and I am aware they have heaps of regulars who chill there. Plenty of parking everywhere and a good industrial area to walk your doggo around on a sunny or rainy day. Berkeley has been in the business of telling you how to drink coffee for sixty years now. It started in 1966, when Alfred Peet opened a small shop on Vine Street and began selling dark-roasted beans to a city that had been perfectly content with Folgers, and in doing so accidentally detonated a revolution that would eventually produce Starbucks, the entire third-wave movement, and a generation of baristas who can explain processing methods the way sommeliers explain terroir. The Bay Area didn't just adopt specialty coffee. It built the ideology around it -- the direct trade sourcing, the light roasts, the latte art competitions, the conviction that how you drink your morning cup is a moral position. This has given the region some of the best coffee in America and also some of the most insufferable coffee experiences in America, and the line between the two is thinner than you'd think. Coro Coffee Room lands cleanly on the right side. It sits on Fifth Street in West Berkeley's industrial corridor, in a warehouse space that houses what is reportedly the second collaborative coffee roasting facility in the country, after one in Brooklyn. The model is simple and, in the way of the best Berkeley ideas, both idealistic and practical: more than twenty small roasting companies share equipment, space, and knowledge under one roof, paying membership fees for access to commercial-grade machines that none of them could individually afford. The café out front serves a rotating selection from four of those roasters at any given time. When a roaster outgrows the facility, the founders say they throw them a party. This is not typically how the coffee business works. The space is warm and open, with high warehouse ceilings and a window into the roasting floor where you can watch actual production happening -- beans going in green, coming out transformed. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and nobody's guarding a table with a laptop and a territorial glare. You can sit. You can stay. What makes Coro worth returning to -- and it is a place built for returning, not for one-time visits -- is that the rotating roster turns every trip into a small act of discovery. You come in on a Tuesday and try something bright and citrusy from one roaster. You come back Thursday and it's a different bean, a different hand, a different idea about what coffee should taste like. Everything is fresh in the way that only coffee roasted in the building you're standing in can be fresh, and the variety means you're always finding something new -- a new roaster, a new origin, a new reason to stop buying the same bag you've been buying for two years. It's the opposite of loyalty to a single label. It's an argument for curiosity, which is the most Berkeley value there is. The cooperative structure matters here, not as a selling point but as a flavor. The reason twenty-plus small roasters can exist in the Bay Area -- the Tibetan refugee sourcing high-altitude beans, the fireman who only sells to firehouses, the husband-and-wife team who started roasting during the pandemic -- is that someone built a shared kitchen and said: make your thing here. It's the same principle behind the commissary kitchens that launched half the food trucks in Los Angeles, or the shared studio spaces that keep artists in cities that would otherwise price them out. This is the one thing that I look for at every café and this is one of the only places that post them. Parking was easy, we found a spot right near the front of the café. We arrived a little before 11am on a Sunday and it was quite busy. While the inside seating area is sizable, all of the seats were already taken by people working or studying, so if you want a seat inside away from the elements, I recommend getting there earlier. The outside seating area had multiple tables, mostly 2-seaters but some with 4 seats, and metal chairs. The metal chairs make your butt a bit cold especially it being wintertime and outside. Service was quick and easy, the staff prefer using They/Them pronouns. The food and drinks arrived 6 minutes after ordering! They also have free water near the front of their entrance inside. They have a regular drink menu as well as seasonal specials! And they offer both sweet and savory pastries. There's also a coffee roastery in the back where you can roast your own beans, you can fill out a form on their website to inquire about it. ---- Pastries & Drinks Spiced Blueberry Danish ($6) and Chocolate Croissant ($6): - They warm up the pastries, but both of the items could have been a little warmer - The filling of the blueberry danish was a little cold in the middle - Flavors were good and you can taste the warm holiday spices - Both pastries were flaky Peppermint Mocha $7: - Available hot or iced, we tried both - Hot tasted a lot better 9/10, my friend got his iced and ranked it a 7/10 - The peppermint flavor was more pronounced in the hot version - Iced version was like a good, cold chocolate milk - Since we were sitting outside in the cold, the hot one was a lot more comforting Espresso Single-Origin $4.50: - My boyfriend ranked it an 8/10 - He said it was a solid espresso, liked that it comes with sparkling water - Wished that they had the flavor notes to read with the drink, describing where the coffee was from and the tastes it should have Drip Coffee $4: - My friend that introduced us to here wanted a pour over coffee, but at this time it was not available anymore, so he opted for a drip coffee - He ranked it a 7/10 - Said it was an average, standard coffee, nothing special or standout about it ---- Overall: Neat coffee shop, I LOVE that their pastries have written prices, food and drinks were solid, and cute seasonal rotation of drinks on the menu read more

CoRo Coffee Room has been on my hit list for over a year. To be frank, I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to try this neighborhood coffee shop. But thanks to my best friend, I was able to! We came to CoRo on a chilly Monday morning. Caffeine was on my mind as a mid-morning pick-me-up. Upon entrance, I could tell this was a popular spot. Most of the tables were taken by busy working (WiFi available) or chitchatting customers. The shop is on the smaller end with several tables, counter seating, and a couple of outside tables. The inside is pretty neat, with a view of their roastery. It's also bright, clean, and minimalistic. We found service exemplary, and I appreciated the recommendations and the extra steps they took to perfect my drink. Aside from traditional coffee and tea beverages, they also offer a seasonal menu. Off the seasonal menu, I got a Small Iced Caramel Latte with Oat Milk. I requested that my drink be a single shot since I wouldn't say I like coffee, but typically, they're all double shots. Even with a single shot, I found it extremely strong. The caramel was burnt caramel, so it was nicely caramelized. I don't often drink coffee, so I tasted more of that than the caramel. My best friend got Isaac's Horchaccini which was pleasant. This is a good spot for intense coffee lovers! CoRo Coffee Room is busy for a variety of reasons--seasonal and traditional drinks, seating and Wi-Fi, dog-friendly, and just a nice vibe. Stopped in as a group of three on a lazy Saturday morning after Christmas, but for whatever reason, a TON of people all had the same idea and the place was super crowded. The baristas handled the crowd and made the drinks about as fast as is possible while keeping the quality high. I had a cappuccino (my coffee shop benchmark), my girlfriend had a Chai, and my brother had the espresso soda. Across the gamut, we each agreed our drink was about as good as it gets. I had been wanting to try this place for a while. Finally went today but never going back. The coffee was perfectly good, but there are lots of good coffee spots in the area. I ordered a half caff latte and they charged me an extra $1.50 for that without even letting me know. The baristas were so slow it was straight up disrespectful, handing me half my order then pausing to show each other stuff on a cell phone for a while before even starting the other half. The space is plain and parking is difficult. My advice is skip it. read more

The roast dates were all really fresh too (not good if youre impatient and just wanna try it right away). I heard some of their drinks sell out fast so y'all will have to get here early. I wish I lived closer to Coro Coffee because I'd honestly be here every day. I'm not even a caramel person, but their caramel latte completely changed my mind, it's soooo good. It can get pretty packed during work hours, so finding a table might be tricky. I've never actually come here to study, I usually just stop by for coffee, but I can imagine it's hard to find a seat since there aren't many tables and it's almost always full (a good sign, tbh). Immediately got the vibe that this was going to be a bit pretentious and unfortunately I was proven right. The cashier was not friendly at all and I felt like an inconvenience for ordering a coffee. That being said, my drink was perfect. I tried the cafe con miel, half sweet with coro espresso. It was just milky enough without being too much milk, and just a touch sweet.
