Love Artis Coffee! My wife and I haven't been on Fourth Street Berkeley in a long long time! Thankfully while doing some shopping and after a great meal at Divan Restaurant a few block away we popped into Artis Coffee. Wow! It was after 4 pm but what the hell, I ordered a cappuccino and my wife order a defca cappuccino, several pastries and took in the HUGE space! Our cashier was very friendly and appreciated our humor and debate on whether to have a "decaffeinated" cappuccino or not. I convince my wife to order one and she loved loved loved it! My "hi test" cappuccino was spectacular, smooth and perfect! Honestly, It took me back to Roma where we had aour honeymoon 22 years ago! Bella! Artis Coffee was okay. I had an Ube Latte, 12 oz, iced, with matcha and oat milk ($8.50 plus $2 tip) and it was good. Artis opened on December 7, 2013 and is located on the northern end of the Fourth Street Shops (a.k.a. Fourth Street Berkeley). This is a fairly spacious cafe with an industrial/warehouse, minimalist look. During my afternoon visit, it was busy inside and out on the covered patio. Lots of people on their laptops. Artis roasts their own coffee. Service was fine. I got a side eye from the cashier/barista when I asked where the water station was (it was my first time and I was unfamiliar with this place), but they were nice and polite otherwise. Coffee so good, love their rotating seasonal drinks and they get very creative with them. Everyone who works here is really cool! Clean and minimalistic. Love their little shop it's a great place to buy housewarming gifts. I've been coming here for a few years and as a nanny, my only gripe is it's digital or card payments only. I know it's common in the Bay Area because of theft, but I've never been able to wrap my head around businesses not taking the national currency- if they took cash I would come in much more often. read more

Was driving in the area and really wanted a coffee nearby and stumbled on this spot. Walking inside the space is very cute and modern with high ceilings. Looking ahead at their menu I was set on trying their honey lavender latte but once I saw the "toffee butter cappuccino" on their menu I knew I had to try that instead, and it did not disappoint. Before coming to Berkeley to for a day of co-working and café hopping with my bestie, I scoped out the diverse café scene. What drew my attention to this place was seeing the glowing reviews from a couple of my Yelp buddies. I was sold! This place was just as good as they said, maybe even better. The place is so spacious and inviting. I have nothing bad to say. Everything from the friendly staff to the delicious offerings is 5/5. I asked the barista if they recommended the almond croissant (my guilty pleasure) here, and they said it's fantastic, so I got one of those along with a warm cup of chai with oat milk. My first impression: nice open space, lots of light and well designed and curated shop of little gifts etc. I am not a real coffee drinker, so I might not be the best judge of the quality of their coffee, but I had a latte and it was excellent. As was the rugelach I tried for dessert. Service was friendly and there was no line at the counter at 4:30pm, but the roasting side was buzzing. What was interesting was that the coffee took a REALLY long time. Parking on fourth street can be a struggle, but at this end, street parking was not a problem. I'll definitely be back, keeping my fingers crossed that I will secure a spot close to a power outlet. Honey Lavender Latte was good (visited 6/21/26 around 4:00 PM). However, the service at the front counter left a lot to be desired. The employee with turquoise hair and another Asian girl employee working the front counter were rude and not welcoming in any way. When I politely asked where the restroom was, they responded with a side eye and a long explanation. I asked where the lid for my drink is and gave me another side eye and pointed at another area where it's at which came across as dismissive and condescending, as if I wasn't even a customer. Customer service should make guests feel welcome, and unfortunately that was not the experience I had. These interactions reflected poorly on the business and left a negative impression despite the good drink. read more

I got a single origin espresso (Chire from Ethiopia) and a cortado with oat milk. The espresso had a smooth texture and good layers that got sweeter as I sipped. I tasted mild acidity with fruity notes towards the end. A very well executed shot. And the presentation was a nice touch 5/5. Oat milk cortado was very well balanced. I feel like the staff was a bit rude. Almost like i was burdensome to serve. Made me feel awkward. The cold brew was not good. Though that's just my opinion. I think the biggest sin was paying $6 for a cup of cold brew coffee and received ice with a side of coffee. (Picture included) The decor was truly the only good part of my visit as well as the coffee being ready pretty quickly. (hence the two stars and not one). In the picture I've provided, I emptied the coffee into a different cup (the cup on the left) to display how much ice was used and how little coffee was given to me. My friend and I got here in the morning just before noon. We were looking for a place to grab a quick drink on 4th Street and ended up here! Walking inside, you're immediately greeted by a large, spacious inside. It's bright with a lot of natural light. There are a lot of tables at the front of the cafe. As you make your way towards the register, there are different coffee products you can purchase to start making your own coffee at home. I ordered an iced 12 oz Vanilla Latte which is their medium-sized option. It had a really good vanilla profile that I feel is missing from other cafes' vanilla lattes. My friend got the Honey Lavender which was also really good. It wasn't too busy when we were here and we even had a table that we could sit at for a bit. I noticed that people had come here to study and I do agree that it makes for a great study environment. I would definitely recommend trying it out! read more

I'm not sure I would enjoy it early in the morning, but as an early afternoon treat it was very nice. Came in during the rain today for coffee and it didn't disappoint. There is seating inside and outside and a high chair. Shelves and center table display chocolates, drink ware, and other items for sale. We got a tahini mole mocha ($8.50) that was rich in flavor with a little kick in the end. We also tried a honey lavender latte that had a subtle lavender flavor, and was more milky. I waited a bit in line in a cafe that was not busy at all. I saw another review commenting about this and it was true today as well. They just seem to take their time here, which is fine. However when I got to order my drink, the barista gave me a bit of attitude and snark. Mind you, it's my first time here and I have no idea what their menu looks like or what drinks they offer and I was simply asking. So I was here for the day and I was visiting different neighborhoods around Berkeley, shopping for a new place to live. Of all the places that I visited in Berkeley (all the 4 coffee shops) I found Artis to be the most welcoming. The coffee was great, I had an iced americano in a really nice glass. Felt great in my hand. The vibe was great. I sat outside because it was so busy inside, but it wasn't wall to wall seats like some other places in town. It's just popular. The outside seating area was great. I got a chance to just kind of experience the Neighbourhood -- experience a cool side of Berkeley. The Mint Foam Cold Brew was delicious, it was well balanced with a nice mint flavor that was pretty unique. Similar to a Mint Mojito from Philz. The cold brew wasn't overly bitter or anything, but I did add a tad bit of simple syrup that is available at the counter inside. I will say though, it is 7.50 for just a 12 ounce, but it is a good 12 oz. The staff is friendly and I got my drink in within like 3 minutes of ordering. It's pretty spacious inside with plenty of seating. There are also cute decorations along with coffee products available. They also carry various coffee beans for purchase. I think I am most intrigued by the seasonal drinks and during this visit, I saw it was a Salted Foam Cold Brew and a Mint Foam Cold Brew. I believe there is little menu board inside on the wall behind the counter that displays the seasonal drinks, but I wish they had one by the register. Was also hoping for seasonal lattes since those are my go-to drinks, but the best way to find out is just to go in person and ask the staff. Definitely check this place out! read more
