Dr Smith was an amazing vet, and she is sorely missed, but we think Dr Ashraf is pretty awesome, too - intelligent, compassionate, and calm presence. There are vet techs we've been working with for 10 years who are excellent, and the office staff, including Carly, have always been kind, warm, and professional. Took my 10 pound Pomeranian to get her teeth clean here because I see they have 4 stars on yelp. And they put down on my paper work saying my dog weights 19 pounds. And I freaked out because I thought they gave her over her weight amount worth of anesthesia since they have to put my dog to sleep to clean her teeth. And the lady worker that happens to have a very sweet voice told me to not get confrontational over a "typo". Very insensitive to say to a dog / pet owner. You guys are suppose to be professional. Any owner would freak and be concerned about my paper work having a mistake / typo on it. My dog clearly looks 10 pounds, 19 pounds is almost DOUBLE the amount. How could you mistake that? You guys work with pets all day and weight each and every one of them. I'm sure if all of you are professional vets you could eyeball my dogs weight there is no way she would weight that much. Please train your staff to be more professional, and tender and caring you guys are suppose to be our hero's and doctors for our fur babies. I do not recommend going here. read more

I've been taking my pets here for years and I absolutely love this place and the people. My dog Jax recently has been dealing with some stressful health issues and they are incredible. Caring and compassionate quality care is what you'll get here. All four of my dogs are taken care of by Coronado Pet Hospital. All have been seen by Dr. Smith. We had a JRT who was at the end stage of her life last year (she has since passed) and I can't stress enough how caring and compassionate Dr. Smith was with our dog and us. This hospital is always busy and Dr. Smith seemed especially exhausted, but she always took the time to see our dog and treated her as if she were her own dog. We will always be grateful for her care. We recently rescued a mini Aussie puppy who is very fearful. Everyone has been patient and caring with her as well. She'll be going in for her spay soon. A friend tried to get me to go to another vet saying they are low cost, but I don't trust any other place with my dogs' health. I also have a 4 lb yorkie and two chihuahuas (5 and 6 lb). My 6 lb chihuahuas will be going in for his dental in a week. Each time I've gone in, from the front office staff to the techs to the docs, all have been friendly, helpful and showed genuine care for my dogs. Extra kudos to the front office staff, who have to deal with us sometimes panicked and stressed out pet parents, not only in person, but also over the phone. read more

I took my dog for an exam. We did a cancer screening, and exam. We, by law in this state have to get our pets rabies vaccines, understandable. There was a push for a battery of vaccinations and we were given the guilt trip to get those. It was an upsell. So we relented after being shamed as bad pet owners. Got the Rubella, dis-temperament, without listing them all. Right under $1,000.00, because we are bad pet owners right. Cancer screening didn't show cancer, overall health was excellent. The key phrase is was excellent until a few weeks later and our dog started getting seizures. We are having to put our dog down. I called them up and they said the vaccines were optional, so we could have declined. Now I'm just an idiot. However we could take him in and put him on phenobarbital. We should take him in for a CT-scan to see the neurological issues. It's not that much, don't be a bad pet owner right; about $5000. They don't care about your pets. They care about your money. They murdered my dog. read more

Our dog went in for a yearly checkup and vaccinations at Coronado Pet Hospital on NM 528 in Rio Rancho. The Vet, Dr. Glassman, administered two vaccines. Instead of administering them subcutaneously near the rear hindquarter of the dog or in another recommended site, he administered them to the front of the rear leg and in the intestinal area. And, instead of administering the vaccines subcutaneously, he injected them directly in the intestinal area. Our dog was so traumatized by the injections that she tried to climb into my lap to avoid further trauma. The correct procedure for administering a vaccine is to do it subcutaneously. They should not be administered by injecting the vaccine directly into the intestinal area of a dog. I started out with 5 stars, but needed to revise it. I will be writing 2 reviews here. My initial revenue and a follow up review. My 10 year old Pomeranian was dying of a collapsed trachea. It is common in this breed and I had a similar experience with another Pomeranian years ago. She clearly was suffering and her body was shutting down. I contacted the Coronado Animal Hospital and they told to come right down and call when I arrived. I was shown in and Dr. Wilson was so wonderful. She agreed that there was nothing more we could do and assisted my baby to over the other side. The rainbow bridge. My doggy went peaceably and was out of her suffering. She and the staff showed much compassion and even sent a sympathy card. Part 2 We paid to have our fur baby cremated and a paw print taken to preserve her memory. It took a week to get her remains back. I went home to open the bag containing a box with her ashes and her paw prints. It is amazing how little ashes there are for a 12 pound dog. It was all ashes and no bone bits. Imagine my dismay when I opened her paw print and found that her name was misspelled. It upset me so much. That the person who did this was so irresponsible snd uncaring to get something so wrong! It was like adding insult to injury. I called and they asked me to bring it back to try and make it right. They were able to salvage the original right paw print , but the left was destroyed. They made a mold of the originals and then attempted to make a recreation, but it is of really poor quality. Anyway, the damage cannot be undone. We live with her memories. It is just a sad ending to the last chapter of her life. Amber there was apologetic when I picked up the fake paw print, the reproduction. She was kind and understanding. It was not her fault. Said that the person who messed up was unavailable. I just hope that whoever does this for the Coronado Animal Hospital in the future does not put another family through more grief than they already are going through. read more

Our visit to CPH was out of concern for Fergus, a (?) mix, who sometimes goes for more than a day without eating. Dr Alan Glassman was very thorough in his examination of Fergus. His recommendation for hydrolyzed soy based food seems spot-on; Fergus is eating daily though the portion of Soy food is still low as we are using a graduated transition. The tech's or assistants are not to be forgotten in this review; more than doing prep work and assisting in the exam, they are quite knowledgeable about our little friends. Once Dr Smith left, the very heavily laden doctors with giant education loans needing to be paid off, I no longer found them to be respectful, professional or caring. The new doctor expected us to cut microscopic pills into halves and quarters rather than giving us the right dose. They were unyielding, unbending, unprofessional. I took my dog immediately to Corrales vet and that man was wonderful. He didn't need to do any blood panels, he didn't need to question my own experience with seizures. He allowed me to give my input, accepted the input and gave me the correct dose for my dog. No nonsense, no major school loans to pay off so he's not out for gouging people. Coronado hospital sucks since Dr Smith left. I highly recommend the veterinarian and Corrales or Bernalillo. Spare yourself the high bills and the rigmarole they put you through to appear professional. They literally fired me and my dog because I refused to cut minuscule pills in half when it came to my dog's seizures. Seizures must be treated with precision, not guesstimates of medication. Shame on Coronado vet for not having more common sense. read more

They take your pet from you to the back rooms and do what they please and charge you for not agreed procedures and vaccinations They cleaned my dogs teeth under anesthesia and sent him home while still under the anesthetic. He could not walk, was barely awake. His procedure was done at 3 PM although I was told he had to be there at 8 AM Then they required I pick him up at 4:45 PM Their office manager, Karlie is rude and unprofessional. They have been so good with my dogs. I just moved here and had only had one appointment before one of my dogs ate something and got sick. Update to Business Manager response. I left my original review at the time my dog went through this experience. As of today, yelp says my review is 1 year old. Manager' response today is May of 2023. You do the math. I don't know what kind of a narrative you're trying to create. Your staff was "under duress" and "battling our own fears" well after 2020? What happened after this experience with Coronado Pet Hospital, was I found a compassionate vet. This other vet clinic has a policy that they will assist their clients on an urgent care basis. Meaning because they don't have a scheduled appointment, they will still examine your pet when they can fit it in their schedule. All you need to do is drop your pet off at the clinic for the day. This is a very typical policy. Coronado's policy is not. Chose a clinic that isn't so strict about not helping in emergencies. That way it's not possible for your pet to be left to die. Because this was our worst nightmare. I'm sure this crisis with ER vets is over now, but why take that chance? Because if the ER is turning you away and your regular vet is turning you away, who is helping your pet? P.S. Passive aggressive comment about only wanting clients who are kind, is abhorrent and childish given what I went through with your clinic. read more

So friendly and caring here....we have taken our dogs here for over 20 years....seen management changes, new doctors, and always had reasonable, competent, and effective care for our pets. We are an adoption only family with our pets, and won't go to extreme cost wise to "save" a pet. We were making one of frequent visits to Albuquerque and our 16 year old Schnauzer wasn't doing very well. On September 3, 2014, we took Doogie Schnauzer to the Coronado Pet Hospital. He had a severe neural disorder and was too frail to be sedated. It was his time. We discussed euthanasia with Dr Jennifer Smith, who had a wonderful and kind bedside manner. We made an appointment to return two days later. I've never euthanized a pet. I feared for the worse. I had knots in my stomach. My wife's mom said to ask the vet again if this was the right chose. When the vet came in, I was choking back tears and my wife asked the question for me. The vet confirmed it was his time. Doogie never left my sight for one second at the vet. The veterinarian assistant hit his vein the first time without even a flinch. Dr Smith asked if I wanted to hold him in my lap instead of the table. I did. He laid in my lap as the sedative was administered. In less than one minute, he passed feeling the soft petting and love from wife and me. I am deeply grateful to everyone at the Coronado Pet Hospital for their caring and support. It was one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make and they helped me along the way. read more

This week my 2.5 year old German Shepherd Dog, Velvet, became very sick suddenly. I was able to get her in promptly to be seen by Dr. Jennifer Smith. Velvet had a very strange condition that neither of the vets there were able to determine a cause for. After two days of care the difficult but necessary decision to euthanize Velvet became apparent.
