I was looking last night for someone who could help me remove a small tree stump. I did a search on Yelp and 5 nearby companies came up in my area. Only 2 bothered to reach out, so I responded to those. One wanted to examine it with me in person and tried to set an appointment, the other said to give him the address and he would swing by in the morning and leave me a bid. Miguel Coronado was the one who came by and gave me a bid. I was pleasantly surprised with the reasonable price he asked. When I told the other contractor what he had offered to do it for, he said he would not take responsibility for that amount. I asked what he would do it for. It didn't seem outrageously unreasonable, but I really wanted a price more like Miguel's. Both contractors said they were insured, but when I pressed Miguel for his answer on this, he tried to decline the job, saying that my question made him realize that insurance could end up being a real hassle if something went wrong, so he thought he should decline. I didn't want to let him off that easy though. I asked how confident he was that he could do the job without any issues? I also let him know that someone else had offered to do the job for nothing, so the only reason he had an opportunity here was because he had insurance. I also told him I was open to paying more. He asked if I was at home? He wanted to come by and show me why he thought he could do it without a problem, and that if I agreed, he could do the job tonight. How could I refuse? I took the dog for a 20-minute walk and waited for him and Lalo to show up. Miguel immediately put my mind at ease after showing me that the stump was not truly intertwined. He was sure he could do the job without affecting the meter. I was still nervous and insisted on watching the process. Sometimes I just had to turn away, say a prayer, and hope that everything would be ok. I'm glad Miguel was so confident. It was exactly what I needed to get the job done tonight. I kept getting messages from the other contactor. I finally wrote him back saying that the job was already done. I told him I understood his feelings about the price for taking the risk, but where he was unwilling, Miguel asserted himself, was confident, got what he asked for and more in price, and also my 5 star review!
