A shame such a great event slide to the sidelines. Went for many years and always enjoyed the car corral and the wonderful vintage racers.

Parking was easy and it was a cinch to get in and out of the festival in the heart of Liberty Station. The event went from 12-3pm and the line wrapped around the block, but had steady flow with shortly arriving inside after about a 20 minute wait. I got to try many vendors some familiar and many for the first time! 1. La Corriente Cocina Del Pacifico: Red Snapper and Ahi Tuna 2. Mezcal Los Javis 3. Brewjeria: West Coast IPA 4. Cherry Fish 5. Dockside Fish 6. Palmy's Pacific Beach 7. Surfside: Black Cherry, Iced Tea Lemonade 8. Fire Barbecue: Pastrami 9. Sovereign Modern Thai 10. Dang Brother Pizza 11. Caliano Pizza: Chopped Cheese 12. Xteca: Mexican America Lager 13. Las Comiditas: Mole over meat tortilla chip 14. Suntide: Guava Strawberry Mimosa 15. Casa Chocolate: Apple with chocolate drizzle with fruity pebbles and Cinnamon Toast Crunch 16. Barrilitos: Manzana Some vendors ran out by 1:30pm and another vendor said we got the last 2 portions. I left by 1:45pm after checking out a good amount of vendors! Overall, a terrific festival and had fun enjoying some eats, drinks, music and a deeper appreciation for Latin America and Mexico influence over Southern California dishes.

Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Pros: lots of alcohol, super friendly vendors, San Pellegrino everywhere to keep you hydrated, nicely decorated with Day of Dead photo ops, fresh hot tacos (all delicious) with fancy toppings, restaurants from TJ, Mexicali, SD, variety of tacos from lengua to Thai to ahi to salmon, free parking, nice variety of alcohol from sangria to beer to wine to hard cider. Cons: long lines, waste of plates, no table tops/belly ups or seats unless part of VIP section, no dessert booths, lots of empty booths and/or vendors ran out of food before 2:00. But getting to go for free makes me even embarrassed to bring up the cons. Truly it was a great event. Liberty Station was a great venue for this because it was spacious for the amount of people in attendance. Tix were sold out. Parking is easy and free. Only caveat: I didn't check out restrooms or see them but I do wish there were handwashing stations around. Some vendors were eating with the same gloved hands they were serving from.

The $12 tickets seems fair, until you realize all it gets you is in the door (after paying $20 in parking). There was not a significant amount of taco vendors and most were ridiculously overpriced ($20+ for three tacos) and had similar quality to what you might find at a county fair. As for the tequila tastings, its seems they instructed all the vendors to portion out .5oz shots to pour into your tasting glass and you only get six of these pours for the low price of $50! (+fees). Want a margarita? Well it seems like they may have whispered a bit of tequila into the sugary mess they poured into your cup. Well you know what you're getting with beer right? They'll happily sell you a Tecate for $12 and it wont even be on draft. Better value can honestly be found at Petco Park. Even finding a place to sit was harder than it should have been as there were way less tables in the eating are then there were people in attendance. We shared a table with some fellow festival goers, who were also disappointed in the cold, soggy carne asada fries they were served. No one deserves that. I would highly recommend this festival to anyone who hates money. And themselves.

Comicon is my favorite walk. There are TONS of zombies and media coverage, and you can hang out and have drinks afterward! They do a fantastic job organizing it. And it's free! The organizers get all sorts of sponsors and free stuff for the zombies. It's fantastic. They've been busy lately! From their site "Since then, ZW:SD has held several walks throughout America's Finest City; many benefiting the San Diego Food Bank, Toys for Tots, and local military families. We've participated in Thrill The World, played zombie kickball, been featured on San Diego Living & Fox 5 Morning News, entertained Ocean Beach with undead caroling for the holidays, helped promote Zombieland (which made the front page of CNN.com), appeared in a music video for Rat City Riot, partied at the House of Blues, and in 2009 held our third walk at Comic-Con (a tradition we don't intend to break - especially since we were considered one of the "ten essential Comic-Con must-sees" for 2009, according to the LA Times) and helped take over Hollywood for a night. We've even helped with a marriage proposal (video coming soon)! Whether we have a dozen zombies or over 2000, our walks are always a blast!" Check out their page for upcoming walks. They have a facebook page too and sometimes post information about small events that are in need of zombies. https://www.facebook.com/sdzombiewalk?fref=ts If you are interested, just show up and give it a try.....you'll be hooked! :)

Highlights for my were the food truck alley, nostalgic car roll, the many artisan vendors, not to mention the additional food vendors, and the entertainment on the several stages. I interacted with a number of the vendors, volunteers, and festival goers and everyone was great. I liked that they had stuff for adults and families to enjoy, and I especially loved that they had a place sectioned off only for adults with libations and eats. A lot of Ceviche! Unfortunately, the seafood ran out early for several of the vendors, but I guess that just shows how popular this event is, eh? We discovered a couple of truly outstanding places we want to check out - one in La Jolla on Girard and the other right here in CV! After the bites and sips, we walked around the HarborFest grounds to check out the various booths, including commercial, governmental, and NGO's like Scripps Aquarium and Seaworld (maybe Seaworld doesn't qualify as an NGO - at least their stockholders are hoping so, LOL). Everybody seemed to be having a great time. There were three live stages with bands and lots of activities for the kiddies. The weather was balmy and the bay breeze really made this a pleasant day in the sun. Unlike others, we were able to park for free on the street. The $10 "preferred parking" in a dirt lot was silly. We were closer to the entrance than a lot of the paying customers! This event shows a lot of promise, and with a little more organization, I know it is going to be even more fun in the future!

I'm not a wine drinker, so I was especially happy that they offered more than just wine as beverages. We tried a ton of food! He was nice enough to give me one without mayo since I can't have it. Another favorite was the grilled cheese and tomato soup from Con Pane Rustic Breads & Cafe. Overall, it was a ton of fun! The sold-out event was packed, but the 300+ vendors came together and put on the best experience. The ticket was so worth it, as I indulged in tacos, fresh yummy seafood, bubbly drinks, and ate to my heart's desire. I recognized some restaurants that I've previously dined at and was introduced to some new spots as well. My favorite bites were Taco Tijuanero, Puesto, and La Corriente's Ahi Tostada. The organization of the event was high priority, including security screening. Vendors were evenly spread out; there was water and sparkling can stations everywhere and the venue being in Liberty Station made it more spacious and lively! I thought there was a great mix of entertainment, beverages, and shopping vendors, while still highlighting the culinary scene! I absolutely loved SDFW Festival! It will be a goal of mine to go to all the days in the future! I enjoyed the freebies too and handouts of the magazine, stickers from booths, and even a free tote and wine chiller cup from Chita Living.

It's bigger than the OB Farmers' Market that's in the same area every Wednesday, but there are some of the same vendors that are there. They have a bunch of vendors of all different sorts, from craft vendors, people selling toys, and lots and lots of food vendors. From cold drinks like lemonade, to freshly made foods like Brazilian skewers, and desserts like ice cream, cookies, and tanghulu, the food vendors are the stars at street fairs like these. Lots of options and not enough belly space! Luckily because the fair is so big you can walk off the food and get lots of steps when you explore all the different types of vendors that come out to these events. The chili cook-off itself is $30 to taste and cast your vote (usually ends around 1:30pm or while supplies last!). Such a fun event for the community and draws in lots of people.
