Beautiful hike! You can't beat the views! I wanted to check Corral Canyon for a while in Malibu and went recently for my birthday. We parked on the PCH passed Malibu Seafood (watch where you park, cops are serious in this area, they were hunting to give tickets to people when we went!). We walked into Malibu Seafood parking lot, there is a sign and you start a hike. You can check various trails, we stayed on the main path, which is tight and there is vegetation on both sides, so long pants are important as is sunscreen and water due to lack of shade. There weren't too many people, the views are incredible, the Pacific ocean shines in the horizon and Malibu coastline is gorgeous. We saw a few hawks flying above. We stayed on the trail, the chimney comes up fast, then kept going for a while and we did take a left at the fork and the views got better and better! Whatever trail you take, you won't get lost since this is a loop. Around 2 miles hike, not easy, but not strenuous, I'd call it moderate, good exercise, but not too hard. I can't take the images of the view out of my head. I'd do the hike it again in a heartbeat! It was a great way to spend my birthday! And of coursed we rewarded ourselves at Malibu Seafood with a nice meal since this b-day girl deserved it with the hike and all! read more

This 2.5 mile loop trail is perfect when you just want a bit of hiking but not too strenuous. It's does have a gradual incline but it's not too bad at all. We came recently during Covid, and there's definitely a warning sign to wear masks. At some part might be hard with a mask when you're going up incline so don't forget your water and water for your pooch! Although the parking lot is not that big, there were plenty of space at 8:30am. Parking is $12 and the machine dose take credit cards. This loop took a bit longer than we thought because we kept stopping for photo-ops and had to let couple families pass us. Towards the end of the loop, there's a short cut to go back down to the beginning but it's pretty steep so just be-careful. Right now in the summer all the plants are mostly dried up and dead. Hopefully we can make it back next Spring to see all the flowers. The ocean view is always fantastic, air is breezy, and it doesn't hurt the trail starts and ends at Malibu Seafood Cafe either! We were the 3rd in line at 10:30am and the restaurant opens at 11am. The parking lot by then was quite full too so come early! read more

Amazing hike. Been doing this one for a few years now. Only did the full loop once because we lazy. Parking is paid with Porto potties. Or you can park on pch right next to the Malibu seafood place for free. If you come before 9 you should be ok. Make sure you have a front license plate!! We got a ticket once for not having one.. crazy. Very dog friendly hike, lots of hills so it's not easy, well marked trails. We like going right for everything. There's a small stream crossing due to all the rain so it's possible your feet may get wet and the dogs will be filthy. Make sure you give them flea and tick medicine! We went on February thinking it was ok, cold rainy... came home and there was a tick on my dogs ear!! Fun hike overall! Trail just keeps going up so you don't get that gratification until you make it to the tip for the whole loop read more

Family-friendly hike in Malibu. The trailhead is located right off the PCH, next to Malibu Seafood. It's $12 to park in the small lot, or you can find free parking along the PCH. A porta-potty is available by the trailhead. Though short (~2.5 miles), it's a nice trail and pretty popular among families with young kids. The trail is exposed with no shade. It's narrow and there are lot of tall plants that scratch a bit, so you may wish to wear pants rather than shorts. There is a gradual elevation change, but not challenging. There is a point at the hike where you can veer off path, but that'll take you to a different trail that's considerably longer. read more

Great hike with amazing views! I believe there are multiple routes to take but this is what we did: we started on the path to the right. It goes downhill for a bit which seems odd at first but it's correct! You'll make a left and continue through the path. There is some incline in the beginning but I would say it's an easy hike for the most part! There is a portion of the hike that is kinda scary since you're on a ledge and it's just loose rocks beneath you. Once you get to the top with the amazing view, continue and follow the downhill path! It's quicker than going back down the way you came from. And then you're back at the parking lot! If you take the reverse route, the incline is rougher. They have portable restrooms available to use at the parking lot as well. We ended the hike with a fish and chips located right next to the parking lot. read more

Let's wander where the wifi is weak and the call of nature is loud. Without further ado let's begin this hiking review. Corral Canyon Park is a 1,000-acre land in Malibu. This is the only canyon on the Los Angeles County side of the range that remains undeveloped from the ridge top down to PCH, allowing the 2.5-mile loop through the park to plunge hikers in to a world of natural scenery and vegetation. Corral Canyon Loop begins at Sara Wan Trailhead, which is located just off PCH next to Malibu Seafood and Deli. There's a small parking lot ($12) by the park, however, free parking is available by the PCH side road. The trail has a steady and gradual elevation gain of 531 feet. The trail consist of narrow paths, rough terrain, wild plants, lizards and birds. Currently, it's very dry due to remnants of the last wild fire. Furthermore, it offers a great view of the ocean. For me this was an easy hike and perfect for a novice hiker. It took me 1.5 hrs of walking and jogging and occasional stop to take photos along the way to complete the loop. Other hikers I met were friendly and respectful, for instance, a young woman gave a sheepish smile. Overall, I enjoyed my time and hiking experience in this park. I highly recommend this place if you prefer a short and easy hike with ocean view. read more

Route yourself to the seafood market for a more accurate address to hike! I haven't worked out in yearssssss and it's a very easy hike! Minimal incline and it loops around so you don't have to worry about going down the same way you went up! You get the view of the ocean the entire way but the path is very narrow (single file lines) so it's kind of hard to get pictures but you can make it work! It gets hot so go as early in the morning as possible! 40oz of water for two adults and two dogs was not enough! Bring twice as much if you can! Parking is $8 but there's parking on PCH across the street but you'd have to j-walk back and forth through ongoing traffic so it's up to your preference! read more

This place has such beautiful views of the ocean as you're hiking up to your destination. However, most of the hike is overgrown with no room to walk on the trails which makes it a very painful hike. You can choose many different hiking trails. As you're going through the overgrown area I suggest you wear pants or you'll get cut up like you got in a fight with a cat. Even with pants on, My legs were still a bit scratched up. You can park out on Pacific Coast Highway for free parking. They do have a small parking lot where you can pay to park. I prefer to park on PCH and I've never had trouble finding parking there. After your hike, you can enjoy some of the best fish and chips at Malibu Seafood right next door. They also have restrooms outside of Malibu seafood you can use. read more

This Malibu trail has a lot of potential to be a really nice easy hike. Parking was super easy to find on PCH just make sure to slow down coming down that hill you really pick up speed. The trail starts right past the Malibu seafood sign and over the little bridge or you can use some other little trails to get on the main one. The beginning of the trail starts uphill and then you get an opening where you can see the water (it's beautiful). Then as you continue going up it got a little confusing for me on which way I should be going when there was a fork in the trail. Needless to say I went left where the trail kept feeling skinnier and skinnier and the weeds were super overgrown and hitting me in my face lol. After 15 minutes of hoping it would let up it didn't so then I turned around. All the other photos in the spring look really pretty so that's when I would recommend going. read more

This is a short and sweet hike. Hike is almost a stretch, but you are on a dirt trail and there is some gradual elevation so we'll call it a hike. It's a very quick one but a nice little to do before Malibu Seafood. My boyfriend and I did it in about an hour I think. The weather was pleasant and the views were great. If you are in the area for lunch/dinner or even at the beach and want to get in a little bit of movement, this is a nice addition to any beach day or before/after grabbing a bite to eat. read more

This just might be the perfect little hike. It's located off of PCH, down the street from Pepperdine. It's a 2.5-mile loop trail so there are no scenery reruns. It's not too isolated or overpopulated. It has just the right amount of incline to give you a little workout. It's dog friendly. There's a port-a-potty in the parking lot. It is even co-located next to a delicious seafood restaurant. At the 0.17 mile-point I recommend keeping left at the fork. This is both the start and end of your loop adventure. This clockwise route is ideal since it is offers a less strenuous incline and it gives you frontal ocean views on the way down. This trail can get a little narrow in some spots. There are some shady areas but it is mostly sun-exposed. For much of the hike you'll be flanked by columns of tall grass and chaparral. There are tons a little lizards scurrying about. The trail takes you deep into the canyon and then it whips you around and climbs you up the mountain. Be sure to take the short detour to the overlook where you can pause and take in the panoramic ocean views. The way back down was pretty steep so be sure to wear good hiking shoes. Unfortunately, you will not see any of the cool rock formations featured in the Yelp pics. The Yelp page is a little deceiving. For those you'll have to hang a right on PCH and drive up Corral Canyon Road to Castro Crest Trailhead. There's an $8 fee to park but no need to worry about bringing cash since there is a convenient credit card kiosk. Be sure to come early. The parking lot was packed at noon when I left. Grabbing a bite at Malibu Seafood is an absolute must when you're all done. read more

Beginner trail. It is a beautiful loop trail that takes you to a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean and Pacific Coast Highway. Beautiful place to watch the sunset. It's roughly two miles to complete the loop. The loop has a few easy switchbacks. Nice maintained trail. Elevation gain is a little over 500 feet. read more

What a great hike and you have so many options kind of like Runyon but no steps. You have the option to take a steep intense hill which was what I did, I more straight path with some small inclines or just walk into the hills and back around, all offer great views of the ocean and city and the best part if that it's not crowded with people. I saw 3 people the entire hike which I love especially during this covid time. I like to jog when hiking so it feels great to not have to stop on a narrow path for someone. Will go again and wonder off next time to see where it takes me. This time was just for a workout and ran up the hill. Perfect for a date can do a quick hike and picnic at the top. read more

One of my favorite hikes! It's so pretty! You can use Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market & Patio Cafe as a navigating point, as the trail head leaves right from the restaurant's parking lot. The lot does get full quickly, and you need to pay for lot parking, but street parking is totally fine and free as well! I live in South LA and it takes me about an hour to get out to the trailhead. There have been a couple times where there was an accident on PCH heading toward the hike which was super frustrating (since PCH is your only choice for getting there), or just general traffic heading back into LA. Keep in mind that PCH can get blocked up, and queue up some podcasts to pass the time! Even with traffic, you won't regret the trip at all. It's such a beautiful hike with panoramic views on the ocean, and if you adjust your speed anyone can do this! My mom never ever hikes or works out, and even she made it to the top. My boyfriend and I made an event of this over the weekend. We initially passed the trail head and drove a little further up PCH (about 15mins) to El Matador State Beach, where there are beautiful sea caves! We were late arriving to Malibu (got there about 3pm) but were still able to leisurely see the caves and hike to the top of Corral Canyon, although I do recommend arriving earlier to give yourself more time for soaking in views. Its definitely one of those perfect Sunday plans that I recommend to everyone! read more

I could see this trail being beautiful in the spring time like the pictures others posted but when I went here a couple days ago, it was far from it. The trail is not very well maintained so you'll be battling through a lot of overgrown and dead plants. Plus there are no signs throughout the trail so I had no idea where I was going. The trail is a loop but you can easily miss this if you make a wrong turn. The only plus was the beautiful ocean view. Street parking was very easy to find, even on a busy weekend. read more

This is good solid workout kind of hike but with little to no frills. You get gorgeous ocean views on the way down after climbing up, up and up. If you want a harder hike, start from the PCH end of the trail (it's right off of PCH, just east of the parking lot). It's much steeper and really gets all up in the buttocks. If you want it a little easier (a little), take the trailhead from the parking lot. Do not do this hike when it's hot and you're better off coming in the Spring. Today on the hike, it was too hot and the dried out bushes scratched my friend and me the whole way. Also, note that there are some trashy dog owners who leave their dogs' poop on the trail, so be on the lookout for that. Best part is post hike. Go right on ahead and order some of the delicious Fish N Chips at the Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market and Patio Cafe adjacent to the hike's parking lot. You earned it! I shared the two fish & fries with my hiking companion and we couldn't finish all of it, so sharing is the way to go and prices are very reasonable. read more

Beautiful hike right now with wildflowers covering the hillside. We had to duck and push flowers aside from the trail as tall yellow flowers are overgrown into the trail but that made this hike just more memorable. Post hike meal at Malibu Seafood afterwards was a bonus for this hike. ;) read more

Getting whacked by overgrown brush, pocked by stickers that just won't let go, not to mention, keeping a keen eye open and sensitivity high for the burial of ticks in our skin. Fun stuff!! The loop on this trek came when we met up with another portion of the Puerco Motorway, which led us to the completion of our loop at Coral Canyon trail. UP IN SMOKE: While fire is part what makes the Eco system go 'round, it's not up to humans and their careless acts, thoughtless actions, and downright [BLEEP]. Mother Nature knows when it's time to clean house, let everyone enjoy what she has to offer for as long as possible. Corral Canyon is the last undeveloped canyon in Malibu that flows freely to the ocean, let's not give developers and politicians reason to build homes on this pristine land. Filled with fragrant purple sage and California sagebrush, wild mustard, breathtaking ocean views from Point Dune all the way to Palos Verdes; Corral Canyon has a lot to offer. Trails in the burned area are continuously growing back, becoming more accessible to the hiker in you to enjoy the area. DISCLAIMER: Hiking is not something that can be taken lightly. It can be life-threatening as you see and hear on the news, people die or get lost all time. Please, if you are going to hike, never go alone and prepare for the worst, hope for the best. This is a great hike. I live in Hollywood, so I try to do Runyon 3-4 times a week, but I wanted to try some new hikes and read about this one at Coral Canyon on the Sara Wan trail. It's so breathtakingly beautiful. It's not steep, its slow and winding and a narrower trail with no stairs, unlike Runyon. As far as a workout, you will get a better workout at Runyon, but this one is much nicer, way prettier and there are far less A-holes here. In fact we only saw two people the entire time we were here. As everyone knows Runyon is filled with dog poop and A-holes. I did bring my two dogs, but you must keep them leashed the whole time, which is nice, it's keeps them safe and not everyone likes dogs, so I get it. We took the first left at the first fork in the road, and it took us about 1.5 hours to hike up and back down. We stopped and took a bunch of pictures, and took our time, but you could easily do it in an hour or less or take 3 hours if you're really into it. There are also tons of greens; we saw tons of sage growing everywhere. My husband is a chef and he took a few leaves to cook with. We didn't know if we were supposed to do that or not, so we didn't want to go crazy but it's literally all over the place. We parked on the side of the road on the PCH for free, but there are a few paid parking spots right by the entrance/exit. Came on a warm Saturday afternoon to do the 2.5 mile loop. Don't pay to park in the lot, as there are plenty of spots close on PCH. The trail was fairly deserted and that was a nice surprise. The trail is pretty narrow the whole way and you are going single file. There are a few places where it looks like the trail continues another way but the main path is pretty clear. At the first main split of the loop, we took a right, which put us on the path to go counter clockwise. That means we would reach the view point and magnificent views sooner than if we had gone clockwise. There are beautiful foliage the whole way with tall grass and plenty of lizards to keep you entertained. The view is gorgeous and there is not too much shade on the trail. The descent was not bad at all and we finish in around an hour and a half. Highly recommend for a good workout! read more

Great little hike here hidden in Malibu next to malibu seafood. Fantastic views of Malibu and the ocean. Trail is well worn and wide. Although not clearly marked. It's a big loop so you really can't get lost. The trailhead is by the horse loading zone, and goes downhill and through a creek bed. Don't get confused by the one that ascends immediately. The girls and I went hiking here this morning. Dear reader, don't come here too early because you will be force to swing your fanny pack at all of the spider webs along the path (I know, spoken like a true girl). So we arrived early, 7:30ish, and began our hike up the hill, yes, a butt-burning hill which was what we were looking for. There are also a few pretty dope abandoned homes and a ranch along the way, left behind by a fire in 2007, to explore. It's of course a beautiful hike because you can see the ocean and Malibu hills the entire trip. Unfortunately we did not get to experience Jim Morrison cave because it sadly was shut down last year. Overall we all got a good workout in as well as some breathtaking views. The hills can be somewhat tough, but it's a moderate hike. Word of caution for you: beware of ticks! read more

A two mile-ish loop that is dog-friendly with a couple different inclines to get the heart pumping. It's not especially breathtaking (or at least wasn't the last couple days of December '17), but it's a decent workout you can do with sneakers. The best part is its proximity to Malibu Seafood...you can reward yourself for getting out and taking advantage of the free, outdoor fun available to us year 'round with a fish taco. I don't know if it gets more LA than that (unless an Alfred coffee was also in walking distance). Go before Malibu Seafood opens around 11am to score a free parking spot on PCH and avoid the parking lot or bring $8 to pay for the handful of spots that are reserved for people using the trail. read more

Nice combo of climbing and distance for a quick hike. It took us an hour to complete the loop, take some awesome pictures, and all while giving the legs a nice workout. We crossed paths with a few other families and dog owners who were super friendly. I want to come back and watch the sunset from here... Pet owners: bring some extra doggie poop bags so we can all continue to enjoy these trails. Bring sun protection during the summer time as this trail does not get too much shady breaks. read more

This was my second time hiking the Coral Canyon trail and my experience this second time was much better! I went around 3 pm and the weather was perfect. This trail was absolutely breathtaking. It's awesome because it's up to you how high you want to go up. People stop at the top of the very first mountain or you can continue keep going up for a better view. But caution with that is the higher you go the steeper it is coming back down. I also liked there was people on other trails around. Another plus, this trail was dog friendly! Saw a few dogs on the way up the trail so that's always nice! Definitely one of the better hikes in Malibu. read more

This is a great loop trail! I only wish that there was a clearing at the top instead of a narrow turn that goes down the mountain. To find the entrance, head to the left of the seafood place and you will see the trailhead (if facing the ocean). We could not find this trailhead and we went directly behind Malibu seafood and found a narrow trail which lead down into the creek instead (take the rightmost path when you reach the fork, otherwise you will be heading toward a private rv park). It seemed like a dead end, but we figured out that you can cross the creek and climb up to reach the trail! (I suggest this trail of you want a more adventurous hike!). Once you reach the fork on the main trail, we chose the left one which leads to the ruins of a chimney. Make sure to wear long pants to avoid getting your legs scratched up by the plants. read more

Great calve/leg workout! There are so many little trails to take - I love it! Some lead further away from the ocean but still offer that amazing ocean view. Be prepared to make your calves BURN!!! I would say this was an intense hike. Definitely hiked more than the 2.5 miles...the further you go, the more uphill and rockier it gets but the better the workout. The ocean breeze and downhill walk were the sweet rewards at the end of this beautiful hike. HIGHLY RECOMMEND but be ready to put in some work!! read more

Mother of hell....I think we did the reverse part of the loop/ trail. On the first major split, we turned right.. There's one part that got steeper so ya that kicked my little out of shape ass. I died. So if that's what u want, try to take that and not the regular trail. Nice view, a lot of lizards, flowers, butterflies & cool ocean breeze today. Like someone mentioned, not much shade so prepare for that. It literally is next to Malibu Seafood restaurant but you have to pay in the lot (it's pretty packed anyway) so we parked on PCH for free 99. read more

Nice hike. Quick and easy, did it in less than an hour. Good workout, you will break a sweat on a hot day. There is no shade, so bring a hat and sunscreen. Cool views from the top. I went on a weekday and it was empty, I am sure on the weekends it is much more crowded. Do the loop reverse for optimal views on the descend from the top. Free parking on PCH too!!! read more

Corral Canyon Park - Summer day on the trail. Bring water. - Parks Near Me - Malibu, California

We couldn't park at Solstice after checking out of Malibu RV park so we decided to try Corral Canyon since it was very near. We parked on PCH on the beach side and waited patiently to cross PCH. Kinda scary as the cars are coming fast and downhill but there is a center divider you can stand on and wait to cross the rest of the way. We entered at the sign and after passing a chimney there was a fork. We went left. The path is narrow with tall dormant plants on either side. Very few flowers this time of the year I guess. No shade so luckily despite being sunny, the temperature was tolerable. Nice cool ocean breeze. Glad I wore long pants as you brush against lots of plants. During our entire hike we only crossed paths with about 5 other groups. The path is pretty narrow so you do have to step aside for others. It's just the right amount of incline. Not too easy, not to hard, but enough to feel like a workout. Nice views of the coastline. It took us an hour. 12:27 pm to 1:24 including 2 water breaks and picture taking. At the end you can stand in the constant line at Malibu Seafood. We already ate there yesterday so instead we went back our RV and enjoy the beach and a picnic. read more

We were driving down PCH and decided to take a short hike. Yelp led me to this location, and it was a true gem! Corral Canyon is picturesque-at every turn, you'll either see the most beautiful wild flowers, the ocean or a canyon painted in various hues of green, yellow and purple. We took the trail path to the right. After an hour of steep hiking, and after seeing gorgeous views all around, we stopped after about an hour of steep hiking up the mountain. I highly recommend going in the Spring as the plants and flowers are most vibrant in color during this time of the year. Overall, a superb hike all around! Great for adults, active Seniors and kids! Please don't bring your dogs.. there are fox tails all over the trail!! Unless you can promise to pick your fur babies up and carry them the entire hike. Then go ahead bring them. Fox tails stick to your dogs paws and they sometimes migrate up to their legs! And it's painful and requires surgery! And also they can inhale these little pricks (pun intended) and obviously get stuck up their nostril. You don't want that. So please be careful when hiking with your babies! This trail is so beautiful right now after the rain that Southern California has received! Parking is challenging if you drive up the street to the trail so I recommend just parking on PCH and walking up the street since its pretty short. There's a tiny waterfall and the house that burned down. Some parts of the hike are harder than others. This trail is dog friendly! read more
