We were told our dog was "very sick" and that euthanasia was necessary. He insisted our dog was in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and would likely pass within hours if we didn't put him down. We were devastated. Our dog was kept overnight, and the next morning we were told he was in a coma. When we asked to see him, he was brought out--and he was wide awake. The doctor casually said, "Oh, I thought he was in a coma," which was extremely alarming and unprofessional. Despite the pressure to euthanize, we decided to take our dog home. We even drove 13 hours back to Chicago so he could be with our family if the worst happened. But he didn't pass. He stayed stable. Once in Chicago, we got a second opinion at another veterinary hospital. They treated him with a 5-day hydration plan--and today, he is thriving. He's playful, happy, and full of life months later. This experience was incredibly upsetting, and I strongly urge others: do not rely on just one opinion in serious situations like this

Yesterday, he got his medicine and he's right back to his perky self! It feels bad when you see your baby hurting and you're trying to find medicine you can't find it. Luckily, but oddly, only one vet has the meds. First, everyone was telling me to get the prescription filled at CVS, Walmart pharmacy or Walgreens. I thought that so weird because I've never gotten my dogs medication from those places. So, here we go calling around every place I can and none of them will take the prescription. Never mind, that's his vet going through a hurricane right now. My that three days ago sent a prescription to my email. Now, in Texas this was just fine to take to a vet and get it filled. Well that is not the case in Florida that is not an ink signature that is a fake document for all they care. So they have to call the place themselves and give them all this information. So it's a matter of.. I have a limited time to ensure I can find a place to get his meds before the hurricane hits them. Finally, East Hill animal hospital was the only place that carries thyroid medication for your dog. Not the emergency clinics, that I was willing to pay $125 for just to get seen and get the meds... No not them... So weird. Know what I find particularly off about this is that thyroid issues in dogs is very, very common. Especially in older dogs like mine who's 11. How are all the other dogs getting treated or are they just going around with thyroid issues feeling bad? I remember, I said Kozmo was feeling really crappy until we got his meds. So all the other dogs just feel like crap around here????Anyway the only place to go take your dog around here is EAST HILL animal hospital. Lost key was the closest place to where we were staying, but I noticed the reviews were a little over three stars. After reading the first low-rating review , I realized they were trying to review a spa. Geez. The second low-rating complained of the animal clinic charging them for a full exam when they only needed a rabies shot. According to state law, no animal clinic can only administer a vaccine with no exam. This says more about the dog owner than it does about the animal clinic. The other reviews were amazing so I brought my pup in. The front desk, vet-tech and vet were all phenomenal. Extremely personable. Got on the floor with my dogs and gave them treats while they examined Mac. My dog usually shakes when we go into the vet, but he did not this time. He was completely comfortable. I can't say enough good things about this clinic. We had a solution for my dog in about five minutes and now I have a quick fix for my dogs digestive issues.
