I have used this business for many years for boarding our dog & cat while we traveled. I returned Monday after 10 days traveling and picked up our pets. My dog (9 year old Lab) and she has Kennel Cough. I call and complained about this situation. All I got was rude answers that I had signed a release, kennel cough precautions (like vet injections) don't work, etc. All excuses, but never did I hear an apology. Kennel cough is spread by dirty kennels, dirty water dishes and exposure to other dogs who have it. Bottom line is that I will find another place to board my pets when I travel. Typically this is the last resort when I am not taken care of. I don't like to leave bad reviews Because I feel it's really important to give an owner of a business a chance to reach out to a customer who's had a bad experience. And the only reason I'm thinking the Owner has not gotten back to me is because the groomer has not told them about the experience. At least I'm hoping that's the case. I brought my 8yo Newfoundland whom I have had in there and a number of times, on Wednesday. My dog is never terribly matted, And in fact the woman at the desk even commented on his smooth hair when I walked in. I went away and came back at noon to pick him up and came back to a dog that was shaved down to the bone. I requested they only take 1 inch off. And could have done with scissors as well. Needless to say I was livid when I got back. But I did not want to cause a scene there since there was another customer standing there. The groomer who took care of him kind of giggled and said well he was so matted that we couldn't get the Combs through him and so we did this and took him down to half an inch. I called back the next day looking to have the owner return my call and got the same groomer who also again did not seem to care that I was concerned and said that she had done everything she could. My greatest concern was that she didn't make a phone call, informing me of the situation, and at the very least,, give me the option of whether or not i wanted her to trim him. Or just to bathe him and I would take care of trimming him. She didn't seem to care at all and if the owner is getting the messages that I have been leaving for the last 2 days I am guessing the owner doesn't care either. I have been driving him to Cortez from Durango for the last few years because they have done a really great job with him, and have always commented that hes never very matted. So I don't know if this is a new groomer or not but frankly I got tired of her talking over me, and not listening to my concerns or forwarding me on to the right people. At this point my dog is terribly traumatised and I still want to get a call from the owner. read more

I boarded my Akita here for 7 nights while out of Cortez. I felt the staff was very hurried and inconsiderate. My Timo looked skinny from not eating, which means he had very little exercise if any in the yard during the day and on the weekend I don't feel he was out at all. He tore up his bed, which he has never done, and would only do if totally isolated and bored. Beware of this boarding facility. I don't feel like they really care. read more

I have used Cortez Animal B&B a number of times. My dog loves the place. She knows the staff and loves playing with other dogs there. The staff are kind and knowledgeable people who know what they are doing. Their prices are very reasonable and since the facility is so well set up and managed I have to recommend them to anyone needing temporary boarding for their pets. read more

We LOVE Cortez Animal BnB and so do our dogs. They take really good care of them. They get to run in a large, safe, grassy yard, 15 minutes every hour. They can play with other dogs if they like to. They feed them the food you bring or the the healthy food they carry, your choice. I even have my dogs groomed while they are there. Awesome, clean place with a kind staff. read more
