We just moved from the DC area and we have been represented by Michelle for the past month or so…read more After looking at a bunch of houses on FaceTime we decided to go with her own listing on Soros Ct, trusting we would be given what we were presented with on FaceTime. We were pressed to send in 2 months rent and a pet deposit fee and we again trusted her and signed the lease and sent everything in only to find the house was rented out to us in an unclean and nasty state. Kitchen was full of grub and dirt, the landlord's things weren't moved out of the basement, bathroom drawers had hair in them, sockets and power outlets were open, doors broken. Disappointed, we decided this was not a landlord we could deal with for the one year and within 2 hrs of obtaining a couple keys ( not all of them) we requested to move out. She refused to return any money and threatened to make us pay until she found a tenant. We approached a lawyer who was very practical and said this was a poorly written lease( by coldwell banker) and although if taken to trial we may recover the money back, we were looking at 1 year ish of lawyer fee and hassle. So we renegotiated, paid another 1000 dollars and terminated the lease with written proof. So glad this is done and over but we lost 8000 dollars of hard earned money for expecting something that is right and dignified. So if you really care for your hard earned money and are looking for a respectable landlord with some dignity, please do not rent the house on 2589 Soros court. Now with all our boxes stacked in public storage, we are back at apartment hunting, we ll probably never recover enough emotionally to rent a single family home again.

It took them less than 24 hours to approve my lease application last summer. If there are any maintenance issues, they'll send repair professionals out quickly. Recently, in my apartment building, someone had been smoking in the hallways and then propped the outside doors wide open to compensate for the obnoxious odor. After I and another tenant brought this to management's attention, they dealt with it professionally, and in a timely manner. The apartment units are quiet, very clean and everything works. When I moved in last August, my apartment unit was spotless. You'd be hard pressed to find a better apartment rental community in the Sycamore/DeKalb area, and at such a decent value.

Pros: Clean, tucked back in off Rt. 64 which keeps it rather quiet, and the maintenance guy Steve…read morewas great. They keep up with the plowing quite well, and the sidewalks were usually shoveled well, too. There was an on-site pond you can fish at should you please. Cons: garages are chintzy as heck. I'm talking literally chicken wire separating the spaces inside. Anyone can cut through that and get into your stuff if they wanted to. The pool was always ice cold, even in the dead of summer. No shade at all at the pool, either! The complex is backed up by a cornfield, so come harvest time, its non-stop noises from tractors, etc, and lots and lots of dust. They also bring in the crop duster planes and they go at it for hours, starting at the break of dawn. They fly so low over the apartments that its impossible to try and sleep constantly hearing the plane dive in, spray, and climb out. Repeat that for hours. Plus I wasn't sure about the pesticides they were spraying all over the place. How healthy could that be? Stinky manure smell from the surrounding country farms. And towards the end of our multi-year stay, several undesirable neighbors moved in, including a young couple across the street who fought constantly, made noise til 3 AM, and had the cops called on them several times.

Physical inspection upon moving all appeared good. 1) Air unit issue 2) multiple outlets not working; 1/2 of them actually. 3) window wouldn't close. The AC and electrical were resolved second trip, nothing was done first trip besides call me and close work ticket. Window I wanted closed; although nonsmoking property neighbors smoke outside and smoke was coming in. Management wanted multiple times to explain replacement, accessing issue prior to repair. I wanted window closed it was making apartment smell of smoke and closing it was all I asked about. Clearly broken it needs repair-that's their issue closing window now the problem. I feel living here will be peaceful and serene. I've rented at multiple complexes in 90's and early 2000's never ever did property manger fail to get apartment ready for move in by checking electrical and functional items. Seems here give it to you in need of repair and then argue about repairing is protocol for Hailey. Open windows with staff prior to signing and check all outlets. My neighbor said he also had 2 inoperable outlets since moving in. They need to set their standards higher. If they don't respect their property the property won't be respected and that's how bad living standards begin. Looking forward to better experiences moving forward. Over other large owners, this is quite less traffic . New management allegedly, seems at least one was trained on the old protocol , other than one loud unprofessional manger , staff in office are pleasant and informative.

I will start off by saying that my son looked at an available apartment and really liked it. My son…read moreis on disability and will be receiving a housing choice voucher (HCV) from DeKalb County Housing Authority. The voucher is a program to help out with rent for people in need. Most of the properties that accept the voucher are not what you would consider "great" but there are a few really nice ones that are the exception. I called Canterbury Place on a Wednesday, asked if they accepted the voucher and was told yes and given the number of the person to contact to view the place. The next day Thursday my son drove to see the place which is an hour from where he is currently living which all that gas is not cheap for someone on a fixed income. As I said he looked at the place and loved it so the next morning I called and spoke with the same women that I talked to on Wed. and was told "We no longer accept the voucher.". So from Wednesday afternoon to Friday morning the decision was made to exclude people in need and on top of that she wouldn't tell me why. My son drove two hours round trip for nothing. To say my son was disappointed is an understatement, to say I was disappointed is too an understatement. Not even a "I'm sorry, or I understand it's disappointing.". Just another kick in the teeth for the little guy, for those in need. Interesting side note this management company owns and has other properties within DeKalb County that accept the voucher, why, the change at Canterbury? Guess we'll never know.
