WARNING - SPOILER ALERT Auto mechanics are generally considered crooks, but some brand specialists take pride in their work... Unless they think you're just some computer nerd looking for a loud car to impress ladies with. Then they rip you off. BIG TIME. It's been a long time coming but I thought I'd check in on corvette specialties and weigh in on my experience for other people considering their services. I'm only sharing my first hand experiences, and any conversation or activity that took place when I was not present are not being recounted. I was brought to corvette specialties by an excited friend who had been called and told that they were done with his engine rebuild. They wanted one more payment (the total was *double* their initial estimate but when you consider these are the specialists, it's worth it, right?) and since it had been six months, my friend brought a cheque and was eager to pick up his vehicle. The front end of his corvette was still lowered - the order was to raise it to stock (restore to stock entirely, in fact) and get it to collectible condition. When my friend pointed this out, the rep said "Just lower the back end" so it would be even. I was pretty taken aback by that, because the idea of rebuilding a classic car to stock sounds like a pretty typical way to show respect to a brand your entire company represents... But maybe I just don't understand how genius works? So we went out to see the actual car. It been driven out from the shop and into the parking lot. It was filthy. There was a nail embedded in one of the tires, and the tire stem caps were off. The oil cap was off, and *there was no oil in the engine*. The vehicle looked like it had been sitting outside for a year. They'd had it for at least six months, and sometimes shops are dirty, but it was surprising to see the vehicle in such bad shape while in their care. Still, would prefer to have waited a few minutes for them to put oil in the engine BEFORE they drove it out of the shop. Upon starting the newly rebuilt engine, it was backfiring. My friend pointed this out. The mechanic (The owner's son?) said "It's not backfiring." We went around to the back of the car. "Put your hand over the tailpipe, you can feel it. It's backfiring" my friend said (True fact - you can feel the air blasting out in uneven bursts if your engine is running rough. But since this is a newly rebuilt engine with ZERO MILES on it, it should be as new, right?) The mechanic gave some hobnob about how that's normal as it's a closed loop system. When he was called out on being full of crap, his face dropped. He quickly disappeared and returned with daddy. The rest of the conversation took place away from me, so I won't include it here. They walk back over to where I am, and my friend wants to take it for a test drive. The owner said he could not take it for a test drive because they had just adjusted the wheels and needed to still tighten the bolts and "adjust a few things" This is what they actually said - They admitted to driving the car out of the shop (DRIVING IT!!!) before tightening the bolts holding the wheels to the car. I was completely floored. It's one thing to disregard a customer's request for work on your vehicle as flippantly as to act like it's not a big deal when you've already been paid for the work. It's another thing to endanger the integrity of your client's vehicles mechanical components by DRIVING IT when there are loose or missing pieces, no oil in the engine, or you have failed to tighten the bolts on the wheels. Even from the shop to the lot. Without oil in the engine *the engine should never be turned on at all*. I'm not a specialist but I'd have to hit my head pretty hard to forget something that basic. I would warn anyone against these crooks/idiots/bullshitters, unless you're a twat who wants flames painted on the side of a vehicle with improperly fitted doors and gummed up catalytic converters and butterfly clips permanently stuck open. If anyone on this website is considering Corvette Specialties for service, please consider sending me a message on YELP first, because this review would be a whole lot worse for corvette specialties if I was willing to include what was said when I was NOT around. $12000 was paid to this shop, and they spent six months "rebuilding" the engine of the vehicle. After a later test drive wherein several mechanical/electronic components *failed to function properly* this business was refused additional payments, and that they could return the money and keep the car. *EDIT* It's been a couple of years, and I've been informed the car is still rusting on their lot. I assume they are not pursuing their client legally for further payment because the damage they did to that vehicle would be considered *larceny*. Not a good look for a specialist. read more

Great body shop! Just picked my '05 C6 Z51 that was damaged when a lady side swiped it in a parking lot and ripped off the front bumper. It was sent to another ICBC body shop and they totally screwed up the repair. Unable to properly mount the bumper and align all spacing. After complaints - it went to the dealer. Again - they couldn't get the bumper, light assembly, and front fender to align. Finally, after much complaining to ICBC - I had it sent to Corvette Specialties and they have totally restored the car to new. I had sent the car here for some minor work several years ago but had seen a couple of bad reviews so avoided it this time. MY MISTAKE - this is the only place I will EVER send my precious vette to from now on (hopefully I won't need to). Don't waste time anywhere else, including the dealer (if it is a body shop repair). I can't comment on any mechanical work as I didn't need it. This is purely a review of the body shop. Glenn was easy to work with and was honest/straight forward. Body shop manager (Keong?) knows corvettes inside out and is a perfectionist. Very pleased with my car now it looks absolutely mint! read more

Im 50 years old, been involved with cars for most of my life. After a 15 year absent, raising my kids, I decided I was going to build my dream car. What could be better than a '60 corvette? I purchased a barn find corvette that needed extensive parts and work. I've known Corvette Specialties for about 30 years, purchasing numerous cars from them. Day one of this build involved finding parts and repairing parts. Corvette Specialties was responsible for finding me used doors and repairing/reconditioning them. Their first screw up was that they located and repaired wrong year of doors, this was a $4,300 mistake. I still have the doors and dont need them. You'd think after 40 years in the business you would know the difference between a '56-'57 door to a '60 door. The same regarding door posts, so much for 40 years of experience. I then sorted out the door problem on my own with an American company. Mistake #2, ordered other parts through them. I live 4 hours away and phoned before I came down to make sure everything was ready for pick up. I brought my 20 year old daughter with me, and phoned when I arrived in the lower mainland to make sure everything was ready. Got there only to find all my parts were all over the place, nothing organized. 3 hours later, I left with a miserable daughter and a truck load of parts. I said that would be the last time I dealt with them. I was stressing about having to deal with them again, but I didnt know of other people in B.C that deal with these early model corvettes. Which brings me to mistake 3, I brought my car down to get the door jams and doors fitted, as well as the door post to windshield fitted. The estimate was roughly $6,000 and the car was there for 2 months. $9,000 later I picked up the car and the door posts still werent fitted. Further inspection on the car, on fitting door post revealed that the work that Corvette Specialties did was still not done correctly. I then had to redo what they had done. I should have a lobotomy for being stupid enough to return there 3 times over. P.S Im happy to report that after fixing their mistakes and wasting loads of money, the body is now ready for paint. read more

The first time I went Corvette Specialties, I was a little bit hesitant due to seeing that post up above written by Thalia L. Friends of mine convinced me to take my car to them because they do great work and I am glad my first judgment was proven wrong. They had fantastic service and I found they were easy to talk to about prices. The mechanics were so nice and they did great work on my car, they are probably the only mechanics I know that did not try and screw me over with unnecessary mechanic work or high prices. Now i take my car there all the time and I recommend it to my friends and family ** I asked about the Car that was sitting outside rusting way which I figure it was that car Thaila L was talking about. The employees said that it would probably be a great looking car if the owner of it actually pay his bill to want to fix it up, instead it will probs stay outside until the owner decides to do so " So remember people! if u want to get ur car fixed, don't expect to pay $ 0.00 for it! :) J.S. read more

My car was vandalized and had it's catalytic converter stolen. I called numerous shops in around the Surrey area. I would say about a dozen, and not one could help me. Either because they were too busy, didn't have the parts, didn't have the time, and overall just seemed like they were not interested. When I called Corvette Specialties, Tanya, answered the phone and she was so incredible helpful. She was super understanding and patient. She took my information and was going to find a company to get my car towed to their shop. I was already so frantic about my car and also having to go to work, that I really appreciated her taken this added stress off my plate. I later spoke to, Glenn, who was beyond helpful. He was able to finalize a tow pick-up and also reserve a rental car, from Hertz, for me as well. When I got to the shop, it was seamless and I felt so taken care of. He also took care of all the necessary paperwork for my ICBC claim, tow and rental. I have never received this kind of service from any shop before. They were professional, friendly, courteous and extremely genuine and I really felt like a valued customer. Service time was really fast as well. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE FOR SERVICE. I would give them a zero if I could. I got some work done from these scam artists. Every time I would get my car back something else would need to be done, other parts would stop working and some would even go missing or be replaced with cheaper parts. I bought some parts from these guys and when I came to pick up my car, they parts they gave me were not even what I ordered but looked dirty and used, looked like something they took off 1 of the many rebuilds they have in the back. These guys are total scum, everyone knows about their reputation, I just wished I knew sooner read more

i purchased a 1960 corvette online sight unseen that had been in a car accident. (not from corvette specialties). they contacted me as they were familiar with the car and wanted an opportunity to repair the car. they had it towed to their shop free of charge to me. glenn then had the car gone over. he then sent me pictures and called me describing the damage and what would be required to fix as well as a few different options. Glenn was also nice enough to meet me on a saturday on his day off to show me my new car that i still never seen in person. he gave me a tour of the premises as well as showing me several other cars in various stages of repair. his estimate was reasonable for what i wanted and i said go ahead and do the repairs. he didnt ask for any money up front. glenn sent me photos of the car and was in contact continually during the repairs. when the car had hit the point of repairs that i had wanted he called me said its ready and his total bill was considerably less than i was first quoted. it was a pleasure dealing with corvette specialties. glenn was more than professional, helpful and still contacts me to see how the rest of the rebuild is coming along. read more
