Not all athletes can become good coaches, but Galvao stands above the rest. I have been so impressed with the way he trains his students. He is intentional to consider the whole athlete and as competitions approach, he changes his strategy to train them and help them lose weight (by keeping the room warmer than usual) and then I'll watch him throw in a game or some sort of activity that fosters camaraderie to help athletes connect and get some mental release. He takes notes and is always encouraging the athletes with the way he runs his class and his daily pep talks. It is obvious he is mindful of what everyone has the potential to become and he pushes people to achieve their best. He manages the classes well and the other professors who serve alongside him are following in his footsteps. He is a great man on and off the mat.

We signed up our son as he said he wanted to try it and got lured in by their promotion of Gi being…read moreincluded when doing so at the time. Classes are good but they nickel and dime every way they can. One day we forgot to pack the GB performance shirt they need to wear under the Gi but still had a black Nike shirt on underneath, and was told he can't step onto mat unless he had the GB shirt, so was forced to buy one. Then baseball season started and we had to pause the membership. Told we can't do it at location but needed to email. They will give you a three month pause but charge $25 each month, any additional months after that need to be "approved" or at least when I told them we needed to pause for another month the email response I got said "request approved". Lastly, our son decided he didn't want to go back as he wanted to do other things during the summer and so we asked to cancel. Apparently you need to give a 60 day notice of cancellation and will be charged in full for those two months, and membership pause also doesn't count towards 60-day notice policy. Talk about highway robbery. This is a gym membership not cancelling a lease. All these fees and gotchas are outlined in the contract but not fully explained when we signed up. So make sure you ask questions about the contract before jumping in and plan accordingly if you want to cancel.

Usually, the classes are taught in parallel, so you always have a choice between two classes to take. -They offer a great variety of classes: Krav Maga, Fitness, Boxing, Sparring, Muay Thai Kickboxing, BJJ and Wrestling. Members can take any class depending on skill level. Occasionally, they will offer specialized seminars as well. -The gym facility is centrally located with easy access from all of San Diego and free and abundant parking. You find students coming from Imperial Beach to North County. -The gym equipment provided suits all training needs and is kept in great condition. Both the equipment and the gym are kept clean (swept, vacuumed and mopped frequently) -Fellow members are there to train and no "gym-tude" is found. Everyone is welcoming, friendly and helpful. Skill levels are from newbies to most experienced. Ages are from young to old. Literally, everyone can train here -The instructors are hands down top-notch! Alex and Stephen cover the majority of classes. Jacob teaches BJJ. Jeremy teaches boxing. All instructors are always training and passing on that knowledge to the students.
