I was really reluctant to try this place bc their google reviews were lower. I came here after a series of poor planning decisions and needed an affordable place to get a last minute up do for a wedding. I called in the morning. The lady who answered the phone was really nice. I got asked for my earliest convenience and got me in at my desired time. I came in and was greeted by the same nice lady on the phone. My stylist, Ivonne, sanitized her station as I used the bathroom. I showed her photos of what I was trying to achieve. She really listened to me and made adjustments to parts I changed my mind on. I repeated for a mani- pedi? She said yes. Then I told her the last time I walked in they snapped at me because they wete all booked up.....? She said well I can take your name and number. I've been coming here for well over 2 years now and have enjoyed all the students who've done my hair. However, after today I must say I will not be returning! I experienced the worst costumer service ever, even after being such a longtime client. Today I came in for a wash and blow dry. The service was great, however, when I left I noticed my head was still full of dandruff. I immediately called the salon back and the teacher who assisted the student told me to come back so they could get it out. When I arrived the teacher said I would need to get a deep conditioner. After the service was completed, I was told that I would have to pay the full price for the deep conditioner even after paying for the screwed up wash. I tried explaining to the owner that I had to come back because my hair wasn't completely clean when I left. She proceeded to speak down to me and say that I should have said something to the student before I left and that I still had to pay for the second service because my hair takes a lot of work (I was baffled). After going back and forth she said she would take $4 dollars of the total. By that time, I was so exhausted and offended that I just paid for the service. As of today, I WILL NOT BE COMING BACK and neither should anyone who has course hair. They speak badly about our hair type and have even gone as far as making me pay double to use more product because my hair is thick. No one should feel bad about having course and/or thick hair. Well, despite my better judgement I went in here today to get microdermabrasion. I would have stuck with my usual school, but they had models week. Never again. The people(possibly owners) at the front counter seemed as though they were not expecting me when I came in. I filled out some paperwork and there was some confusion in terms of who was going to be working on me. Finally, someone came out and greeted me and had me come into this back room. She had me in a room with 3 people and someone who was a teacher. I was given a small piece of cloth to change into. I was wearing a dress and I'm 6 ft tall so when I came out everything below my waist was out. I asked her if I could get another one for my lower section and she just told me to get in the bed. I think I need a few hot showers after that, but anyways... I had no idea what she began doing. I think she was washing my face and then all of a sudden she pulled out my nose ring. My nose ring is newer so it hurt like a b****. At this point, I just told them I was ready to leave. I was gooood. But, they had someone come in from another area and help me get my nose ring back in my nose. Anyways, I shed a couple tears. It's been a terrible week and I just wanted a relaxing facial. So she continues the treatment and does the microderm and I notice that it feels a bit different than normal and she's spending a little longer. At one point she just asked the teacher to come over and take over. Never a good sign. Anyways, I made it through the end of the treatment, changed and went out to pay. I got in the car and looked in the mirror. I did indeed have hickies on my forehead. Now, I'm wearing a headband around my forehead to not look like I got punched a few times. I don't blame my esthetician, but don't understand how this school can be letting people work on others when they are clearly not ready. Also, why did no one tell me I had hickies all over my head? And to make me pay for my treatment after all of this? Terrible customer service. I do not recommend this school to any students. The school used to be really good but since the school owners have changed it's the worst one I guess in Sacramento. They licensing scores are dropping. Other than me and one of my friends, everyone else has failed the state board . Right now the only good instructor they have is ms paula. I got my hair colored by one of the students and she really took her time matching the right color I wanted. Ms Jo guided her throughout the whole process. I requested a dark brown color that'll match my skin tone and cover my grey hair. It came out great and definitely covered all that unwanted grey hair. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! I was second guessing writing this review but I had to do it! It wouldn't let sit well with me seeing people tricked into going here! Where do I even begin! This whole place is a scam, you don't learn anything, there are only a handful of teachers that actually care about students. The staff is HORRIBLE!! They hound you for your payments but when you ask them about your materials that you should have gotten they don't have an answer for you! I was half way through with my course when I finally got my supplies that I paid for in the beginning! No body there knows what they're doing. Some staff will try to be helpful but they all answer to Alejandra but she is the biggest scammer there! She lies about everything, even the simplest stuff. Shes rude, talks down to you like you're a child, and gossips about her own staff! I asked her about my hours and she mentioned I had so many hours to make up otherwise I'd have to PAY IT BACK but when I went to the girl to signs you up, she said I didn't have any. Again, wrong information. This girl just talks out of her ass to shut you up instead of actually giving you right information. And don't bother telling the owners because Alejandra and the owners are all best friends who don't care about what goes on as long as they get their money. I can't believe I made it through! The Director Ms. Jo is there running the show. She is the director, instructor,wife,mom,counselor , mediator, boss lady and still she runs a tight ship. I learned that cosmo school is designed for you to pass state board. that's it. its up to you to study and get your assignments done. Ms. Jo has a great state board passing rate and if you listen to her and trust the process you will too have a license to create. In addition to that she is partners with Highlands community charter school . who sponsored me and will sponsor you too if you are 22yrs old or older and need a high school diploma . even if you have a GED, it can be converted into a High school diploma . Now why in the world am I writing a review on a beauty academy? Well, I am NOT metrosexual, but I am Taiwanese (translation: CHEAP!). I was never one to pay a lot for haircuts. For women, I can certainly understand why you wahines pay a lot, since you don't cut it as often as the more hirsute and smelly sex does, and when it goes bad it's catastrophic (as in 20 weeks of complaining and crying to your man-friend) and leaves you with a nasty (as in "it's Janet, Miss Jackson if you NASTY" nasty) attitude. This place has $7 haircuts (for men, not sure how much it is for women), and with great trepidation I walked in, my strong baritone voice masking the mild tremors of my hands when I asked for a haircut. These are students, after all. I'll be honest and say that whenever the teacher left I was afraid that the student was going to give me the Van Gogh on my left ear, but I managed to escape without any blood spilling (can't say the same for the democratic race for the nomination). The teacher I had (Joanna) was great. According to my wife, I got the best haircut she has ever seen. According to me, I got a haircut for $7. Now that is what really matters... For a $7 haircut, intact ears and walk-in service, this place gets Franksabunched with 4 stars! read more

I did my research before coming to this beauty school. I loved the family feel of it, and the price was very good. I enrolled as a full time student in July and never looked back. The owner, Ms. Jo, genuinely cares for each one of her students. I call her a superhero because she sees all, and knows each of her student's weakness' and helps them to improve in any way possible. She is always available to talk if you ever need extra help, or have any concerns. Even on the busiest days, she somehow gives each of her students guidance with each client. You never feel helpless here, you're always taken care of. When you graduate, you will always be well prepared to take the state board. Since I've been here, everyone to graduate has gone on to get their license. Ms. Jo only hires the best instructors as well. I thought I knew a lot coming here, but I was wrong. I've learned so much that I can take into my future career. Ms. Sol, Ms. Paula, try so hard to help us succeed and go above and beyond. This school is what you take from it. They give you all the tools to succeed, you just have to choose to take it. The director's husband, Mr. Gordon, helps wherever he can. What school offers help with parking, going to your car to grab your book if you forget it in theory, and offers filtered water and hot coffee for all of their students everyday? Only Cosmo beauty academy. Everything is always well stocked and clean. I have 0 complaints about this school, and if I did, I feel confident that I can bring my concerns to any one of my instructors and it will be fixed. Hello, this is my third review for this place. I went there yesterday to get a facial. I've gotten facials before but this time I wanted something different. The guy at the front desk is always a little disorganized. I've come to accept that. Nonetheless, shortly after I was greeted by Raven, the student who was going to perform my facial. She sat with me and talked about what I was wanting to achieve with my skin and what options were available. she is absolutely the most professional person I have encountered there and I love it! She was knowledgeable in aesthetics, and treated me like a place of business should. My facial went great. I chose to do a microdermabrasion treatment. I actually purchased a 6 series. After my facial, the teacher came in and asked how everything went. She also answered additional questions I had. I use image skincare products and I always purchase them from here. Overall, I recommend this academy for all your beauty needs. I have gotten a full leg wax, arm wax, haircut, manicure, and facials here. I have not had a bad experience. This was our first time at Cosmo beauty school and we were pleasantly suprised. It was clean organize and the instructors were great! My daughter had an appointment to get her hair dyed blue and we knew it would take all day because of her hair length and thickness. She had a student named Debbie who really enjoyed doing fun hair colors. The time flew bye. Even though the school closed at 5:30 we were not rushed out with wet hair. Wow, what can I say! I am beyond happy with my hair. I recently got my hair done, and instead of highlighting my hair like it was needed, the hair stylist just put high lift on my roots... which in return, made my roots orange and it looked like I had a line going around my head where my roots met the bleach. I looked up on yelp, and was willing to give this place a go. I was nervous since my last experience getting my hair done was awful. Yesenia made me feel right at ease. I love places where you get great value for what you pay and this is definitely one of them. Gordon and Ms Jo have been running the school for the past 7 years and they are very attentive to their students and clients. I had initially called for a haircut appointment on a weekday but probably didn't need to as there are more than enough students and instructors to go around! The student who was giving me my hair cut initially shared some of my nervous energy but she was friendly, eager to learn, and very careful to confirm what I wanted in my hairstyle. It was neat for me to hear the instruction from one of the teachers who was watching over closely providing support while also demonstrating appropriate cutting techniques without being disrespectful towards her work. At the end Ms Jo herself came by to evaluate and do some additional teaching! I felt that every strand of my hair had been thoroughly inspected to make sure they fell in their right places. Ms. Martha is a super sweet woman, who cares about her students & wants them to all do well! I miss all the school staff & I'm very happy I chose to attend! It was a fast course I started in May 2nd & received my license at state board, Aug.30th if you are looking into finding a school right for you give this school a tour! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! I have been going here for the last 2 years and even though my problem has never been with the students, the way the staff treats them and how the owners treat you unless you are a friend of theirs or a little old lady is just disgusting. I went in for my normal appointment on Tuesday and I am now five months pregnant, granted I go in every 6 weeks or sooner and all of sudden they won't work on me because I'm pregnant! Completely discriminatory especially because my service wasn't bleach and I am not in my first trimester. I openly even talked about it the last two appointments and nothing. The only thing that changed is the last time my regular girl couldn't help me so they stuck me with someone who while doing color dropped a brush to where I had a red strip down my face and no urgency to clean it off. When I was "done" I was not apologized too instead the girl (who didn't speak English) just took off and then when getting to the counter they tried charging me more money. Every time I have been there they try and up charge me for something I didn't have or if the technician uses the rest of the color in the bowl then they charge me when it's already mixed, if she throws it away then she gets in trouble. I have been there when an instructor called a girl a bitch a made her cry, when she walked away she made a side comment to someone else that she deserved that. I was appalled!!!! Seriously, don't waste your money! Paul Mitchell school is 9 minutes from this place and is so much cleaner and way more professional. read more

Beauty schools can be a little bit scary sometimes, heck going to the best beauty salon can be scary if you are as protective of your hair as I am, I felt very comfortable getting my hair done the teachers were there every step of the way to make sure my student was doing exactly what I wanted! I would give 0 stars if I could, on our first day half of us didn't have the stuff we paid for before school started, on top of that you still have to buy several things outside of the kit to participate in class even though we were told our kits had everything in them we needed, they expect you to know how to do nails already, we were never taught a 3 bead method or how to prep an acrylic nail, we literally just learned nail art which is the least of our concerns when it comes to nails, we basically had to learn to do nails on our own, i was even told by a staff member that they do not make lesson plans & they just make up stuff as they go. Staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional, I had a teacher (not my teacher) scream at me in the middle of class over a staff issue with seating because they had enrolled so many girls in my class we didn't even have a classroom for all of us to fit in. They had a us sitting in the hallway, I also had 4 teachers in the span of my 3 month course, one was nodding off in class h!gh off something & another one could only teach in spanish despite 3/4 of our class being only English speakers. They make up rules and don't follow them, I have countless stories of staff causing unnecessary drama towards the students, (calling students from personal cellphones outside of business hours, strange payments being made up, hours not being properly documented, accusing students of cheating on tests, class being unattended for hours on end, making up test scores ect.) they also made us plan our whole graduation ceremony on our own and took the credit for it. Would not recommend at all it was a living hell and I would dread having to go everyday, there are cheaper places to go in sacramento where you will actually learn something. read more

I started Cosmetology school at Cosmo before the change of ownership and when the new owners took over, things started going bad. Alejandra was getting into my personal life regarding my children. She got into my personal file and provided CPS with my address and before you know it, they were at my door. The years I spent there was horrifying. I was verbally and mentally abused by Alejandra, Jose, and Sol. They violated my privacy and invaded my student records. I addressed this to the new owners but yet they refused to believe anything I said. Alejandra would make fake high school diplomas for students who didnt have one and she would charge them $150. When  asked for a receipt she said there isn't one. I think she was stealing the money. I have now graduated and they are telling me I owe them money when they are the ones who owes me for the damages they caused. Please do not go to that school. I was a little apprehensive at first it being a "school" full of students but my gf convinced me to give it a shot, save me some money. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! We came in on FRI the 25th of May. I believe she said Mr. Joe worked on her. Not only do we get state board classes but we got extended education in all areas hair, nails, facials, and ethnic hair. very clean and you have to follow all state laws.
