Stopped in yesterday morning for a 9 am apt. Process took student 5 hours instead of 3-4 I was told. Color didn't coordinate with my roots and brows like the teddy bear bronde I was set on, but was told wouldn't last. Copper student chose will fade faster, but I was tired and not thinking straight. He suggested a matching brow tint with their esthetician, but unfortunately they don't offer this shade. 3/5 stars. I don't want to put Douglas down since he just started in April and it was only $75. Salon looks alright, free coffee is offered, but I'm allergic and they don't offer tea. SYOY! read more

I have been coming to Hoss Lee Academy for facials, back treatments, and hair since September of 2025! Since it's a beauty school, prices are significantly lower compared to other places. I met a variety of students that were always so kind and service is amazing. Every time I walk in for an appointment, the environment is always clean and organized. I make sure to tip the students generously because I've heard they don't get paid for doing services. However, one thing of feedback I have is to improve on communication. Upon arrival, clients will do additional one page paperwork that asks what skin care products you use, yes/no questions, and another signature. It's quick and simple to do! Then, an esthetics instructor pulled me to the side and asked we could talk. There was another woman alongside her who I did not recognize and never met in my life nor did she introduce herself. The esthetics instructor told me they were not sure why no one told me but are unable to do services on me because they basically found things in my hair 2 weeks ago at my facial and back treatment appointment. While I appreciate the instructor informing me this, this interaction was indeed embarrassing just like the instructor said so. If it is so embarrassing, why was I told this in-person rather than a phone call? I made this appointment 2 weeks prior so they had 2 weeks to communicate with me. I have Hoss Lee Academy's number saved so if they called me I would have known but they did not. This was honestly unprofessional and disappointed with HLA. I hate having to write a review like this but during and after that interaction I feel humiliated. I drove far and wasted my gas for an interaction that could have and should either been done over an email or a call. If this is how Hoss Lee Academy treats their clients I can't imagine what it is like to be a student. You truly get what you pay for; I am going to find another place and if I have to pay more for better customer service then so be it. read more

Amanda knew that I only wanted 1/2 inches trimmed. She would show me throughout the haircut how much hair she cut and it was exactly what I wanted. This is a quality school. I appreciated the respect of the students for each other. The teachers were equally helpful and continuously checked the student's progress. UPDATE: I want to clarify something after Hoss Lee Academy's response to my review. For approximately the first hour and a half of my daughter Aria's appointment, I was sitting in the reception area because there was no place for me to sit beside her. I was not standing over the student or interfering with the service. I approached only after I noticed that sections of Aria's hair had already been lightened extremely pale almost white/gray. By that point, the over-lightening and damage had already occurred. We returned two days later because we were extremely concerned about the result. Toner was applied in an attempt to correct the color, but Aria's hair was left orange/brassy in areas, and we were still dealing with the damage and breakage from the original service. My concern remains the same: this was a chemical service involving bleach on a minor, and in my opinion, there should have been much closer instructor supervision throughout the process. Aria's appointment lasted approximately five hours, and the outcome was not simply a matter of personal preference the condition of her hair afterward is visible in the photos. I stand by my original review and the photographs I posted. I am adding this update because I want the timeline and circumstances of what happened to be accurately represented.I strongly recommend that parents think very carefully before bringing a teenager here for highlights or any service involving bleach or lightener. Our experience was disastrous, and my biggest concern was the lack of supervision during the actual highlighting process. There was an initial consultation with a lead instructor, but after that, the level of supervision I personally observed was appalling considering that a student was using bleach on a teenager's hair. At one point, I walked over to my daughter because I could see that some of the strands looked WHITE. I was immediately concerned and asked why her hair looked that way. Instead of an instructor coming over to check what was happening, the student simply told me, "Trust the process." Unfortunately, my concern was justified. My daughter's hair was severely over-lightened, with sections becoming almost white and extremely fragile. Some of those pieces are now breaking. This wasn't simply a color result we didn't like , we are now dealing with hair that has been seriously compromised. To be fair, the academy offered to have us return so they could try to correct the color, and we gave them that opportunity. Unfortunately, the correction did not solve the problem. A toner was applied that turned her hair orange/brassy throughout. Approximately two weeks later, that toner faded and the extremely light, almost white, uneven highlights became visible again. We are now having to seek help from an experienced professional colorist, and because of the condition and breakage, we may ultimately have to give my daughter a drastic haircut to remove the damaged sections. I completely understand that this is a cosmetology school and that students are learning. That is not the issue. When you choose a beauty school, you know a student will be performing the service. What you reasonably expect in exchange is careful PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION particularly when bleach is being used on a minor's hair. A consultation at the beginning is not the same thing as closely supervising the chemical process as it is actually happening. What makes this especially upsetting is that I noticed something looked wrong while the service was still taking place. I questioned why the strands looked white and was reassured to "trust the process." I did. I deeply regret doing so. For a teenage girl, having her hair damaged to the point that it is breaking and may need to be cut significantly shorter has been incredibly upsetting. Based on our experience, I would NOT recommend having highlights or significant lightening performed here on a teenager. Saving money on highlights is simply not worth the risk of potentially spending far more afterward on professional color correction, treatments, and ultimately a drastic haircut because the hair has been overprocessed. I wish another parent had warned me before we went, which is why I'm writing this review. read more

I'd like to start with the positive, as everyone was very friendly, the pricing is good, and Hoss Lee was willing to fix my hair after it was slaughtered. Also, I would like to acknowledge that I completely understand these are students and you get what you pay for! I was scheduled for a color, blonde, and haircut. However, following my first 7 hour appointment (in which I walked out with wet hair and no haircut), my hair looked like this (see below). I'm not even sure how an instructor was able to sign off on my hair given that it was wet and you could not see the color? However, with a prompt response, I was able to get a haircut and color correction only a couple days after my appointment. This took around 6ish hours to fix. It was satisfactory enough for me to leave the salon feeling okay, even though it was not exactly what I was going for and had a wedding coming up. I will say I appreciate the effort and willingness to fix, but the time management and the fact that I left the salon looking like this (originally) was quite rough. read more

I went in today for a perm with Daniella Moeller and she did unbelievably amazing. I've gotten many perms in the past few years and this was by far the best I've ever gotten. I had an amazing experience with the student who did my hair. They were able to get me in quickly for a balayage and trim. One thing to note is that the environment is chaotic and not relaxing. It's students who are stressed trying to get their hours and I feel some people come in expecting that spa treatment so make sure you come in with grace and patience! One thing I will say out of concern is that it seems the staff do not treat their students well. Lots of gossip goes on around as the students vent and I feel terrible about how they are treated. My son wanted a perm and I was not up to paying over $100 at a salon because the last perm he got, he hated it. I decided to give the Academy a shot and we ended up with Jenna. By chance, my son was her first client ever. The perm took over 3 hours but Jenna was awesome and the director and teachers kept coming around to assist and walk her through the process. This is such a good concept! If you're not in a hurry, or you're not too particular, if something goes wrong, it would be worth giving the school a shot to get your hair done or other services. Services are ran by students who are still learning so time might be an issue if you're in a hurry. Other than that, I appreciate that the student that I had walked me through everything she did. There's always a teacher they have to consult with before they start and midway and also towards the end. The prices are very affordable to say the least. They do take walk-ins, but also take appointments. However, keep in mind that if you miss three appointments, you will no longer be able to make appointments in the future. Just like regular services, tipping should be standard. These are working students. read more

The prices are very reasonable, and the skincare service was great. The staff were polite, friendly, and gentle, and I really appreciated that experience. Unfortunately, the haircut experience was disappointing. I understand the stylist is still a student, so I tried to be understanding, but she seemed inexperienced and the haircut process felt very slow and repetitive. At times, both the stylist and the instructor handled my hair a little too roughly, which made me uncomfortable. The final haircut did not turn out well, and I ended up fixing it myself afterward. Although everyone was friendly, I did not feel very comfortable during the haircut appointment. I still left a good tip because the skincare service was good, and I know students are learning and working hard, but I would not come back for a haircut. read more

Appointment for two. I am a caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer's/dementia. I made an appointment for both of us for the same time and requested that we be seated next to each other. I had been to Hoss Lee several times and understood the student responsibility. My hair is long and one length and pretty easy. This was the first time for my mother. When we first were guided to our stylist chairs, there were cords across the floor from an outlet to a student doing someone's hair and my mother almost tripped. When we sat down, I explained to my mother's stylist exactly how to cut it, the length in inches on top, how long over the ears it should be, and how tapered it should be in the back. By the time she got ready to do the blow dry, I had to stop her. She had totally ignored what I had asked her to do. I left my chair and once again asked her to cut to a certain length over the ears and to taper more in the back. Blend it better between the top and sides. By the time she was done, it was better, but not fully what was asked for, but I let it go. I know they are students and are learning. However, they are also there to cut the hair they way the client asks. If they have suggestions, I am willing to hear them. Just don't cut the way you want without thinking I won't notice. read more

4.5 / 5 stars I am putting up 5 as there is no half star option, and I think it would be more fair to round up. I went for a haircut and for the price ($15) it was a solid experience. The student was friendly, professional, fairly skilled, listened to all my concerns and gave suggestions when I asked. The instructor was also approachable, helpful and had a positive attitude. I felt very comfortable throughout. I also felt that they respected whatever I had to say and tried my best to accommodate me. They are absolutely POC friendly! The process was easy; I booked my appointment 3 days before. It started on time and it took more or less an hour which was fine considering it is a school-salon. The only reason I took off half a star is at times the salon was a bit loud with students laughing and having conversations loudly in the background. I personally do not mind! I just wanted to note that as ambiance may be important to some. Towards the end of my session, they played the radio which was nice. Overall, it was fairly priced, I left happy! I like my cut. Super happy with my results here. Came in with pink/salmon hair for a color correction. It took a lot of patience to get the pink out but was super happy with the end result! Its amazing what they achieved without using any bleach, they blended my grown out roots beautifully. Only charged me $90 for 5 hours of long tedious work. Don't sleep on Hoss Lee Academy! As a mom of two expensive teenagers I am always looking for ways to save money without sacrificing quality or experience. That's the perfect way to describe Hoss Lee. I had an appointment for Saturday morning (they take walk ins too) and I was lucky enough to be there while a graduation was taking place. That's was a special treat and I did get a little choked up.... When you arrive there is plenty of parking and walking in the front door is just like walking into any salon. Front desk, product placement, seating available and a chill lounge vibe. It's also simultaneously buzzing with energy. When you arrive, they will let the stylists know you are here for your appointment. Moriah was my stylist and she was absolutely fantastic. She was gentle, skilled and super friendly. I have a short bob and my trim was PERFECT! I grabbed some Dermatologica items and a Matrix leave in treatment. I was even entered into a drawing for a fun prize basket.
