The new building and contents are far, far, better than the old. But, the attitude of some of the employees is not good. A line at the pumps, since more than one not working, one with a cardboard sign you could not see until you drove up, one with no sign, so you get out, try to make it work, and give up. Told cashier, recommended they put a bag on the pump, he basically said, "so what?", my problem to have been in line for a pump that did not work, then another line for one that did. So bought enough to get to Mohave and filled up there. And men's room has thee urinals, one blocked off with a stack of milkcrates. No paper towels, changing the review from 4 to 3 stars. Now the Shell station in Mohave has an even worse men's room, as does the Shell station down 395 about 8 miles, so I'm lucky that men can pee standing up. But Subway is Subway, Jersey Mike's in Lone Pine is much better if you want a real Italian sandwich like they make on the East Coast. read more

We haven't been to this Chevron in a few years. It's definitely been upgraded. There's a new dining area that's modern, simple, and clean. The bathrooms were very clean and they had that freshly cleaned smell. The lady who helped me at Subway was very nice. She was friendly and very upbeat. I can't tell you her name, but I remember that her son's name is Ezekiel. (We talked about kids). We will definitely stop here again. read more

Clean, air conditioned and the prices for beverages are reasonable. Didn't try the fast food so no opinion there. They carry liquid death teas at a very reasonable price. We've already been back twice. They also have Chevron gasoline and EV charging stations. Price for gas isn't bad given that they are miles from any other gas station. read more

Coso Store and Gas Station are right across from the rest area. Might as well get some gas before entering Death Valley since this is the last gas station you will see for a while. No frills, your regular gas station. Cute store, wooden decor, lots of touristy pamphlets and maps in front of it, a decent display! Since cars tend to go a lot further on a tank of gas than they did in the old days, our top-off in Mojave tends to get us at least to Bishop before we top off the tanks again when we're heading north on my beloved 395. Still, we occasionally don't time the kids' restroom stops just right, or at times, blow past the Fastrip in Mojave and make it about this far before we need to stop. All that to say, for a guy who trailers through the Owens Valley at least a dozen times a year, I've only stopped here a few times. Unlike some of the other reviewers, who seem to be expecting a veritable Shangri La with concierge service models out here in one of the lowest population-density parts of California, I generally stop at gas stations to... wait for it... get gasoline. Maybe a bottle of water, or a fountain drink. Hit the head, sort of thing. I'm not here for scintillating conversation with the guy or gal behind the register, but as with most human interactions in life, I've found that extending a little courtesy and a smile to most folks will be returned in kind. This has always been my experience here... Sometimes it's not the warmest reception, but seriously friends, don't you have somewhere else to be than standing in a convenience store somewhere south of Olancha in a valley devastated by LADWP, waiting for compassion from a guy playing video games and having a little country laugh at your dazzling suburbanite expense? Lighten up, Francis. You'll live longer. Folks who live and work in this part of the world have always seemed to try their best to deal with the fact that they rely largely on business from city folks in REI parkas heading to timeshares in Mammoth, who walk in here on a time schedule and with an attitude. Not that there's anything wrong with REI. Just your attitude. And just my opinion. Sure, you probably shouldn't use your credit card in the gas pumps when the seal is clearly broken and there is a history of card skimmers being found in the pumps a few years ago by Inyo County Sheriffs. Apparently, one of the gals who works here has plenty of time on her hands to review security footage and write responses to Yelp reviews on the store. More power to her. As with everyone I meet between Lancaster and Bridgeport, I'd just tip my cap to the lady and wish her a very nice rest of the day. Also, I wouldn't steal fountain drink soda or put my kid's bare ass on the floor or a rural gas station bathroom. Especially if it didn't have a door. Other reviews for this spot are hilarious and tragic, from every angle. Aside: wanna blow someone's mind who's been "rude" to you? Smile at them, nod twice, and tell them you hope they have a great day and a better tomorrow. Then take a deep breath, and count your blessings. Kindness, people. It's catchy, and it works both ways in most transactions, monetary or otherwise. I have stopped here periodically over the years without issue. This last time (Sept 23 2024) I stopped to get a soda and a few snacks. I could have parked in the fuel line, but as I had a forty foot trailer with a tractor loaded and a truck with several dogs, I parked in the only area available which had the unfortunate effect of blocking 2 of the electric chargers (out of 6). I left the truck running for the ac for the dogs. Yes, I saw a sign that additional parking was available behind the station, nut with the dogs I didn't think that was a safe option. I was literally in and out in under 3 minutes, yet they made a point to call the inyo county sheriff on me for this. Even the cop was apologetic but said he had to make it look "good" as they were a local business. He said they drive them nuts with these random calls. Him and I had a good laugh over the silliness of it. And when I was in the store not a single employee said a word to me. What a waste of taxpayers dollars calling the sheriff. All they did was make sure that on my monthly trips thru Big Pine I would never stop at this business again for fuel, nor will any of my other employees that drive for me. How ridiculous. Had there even been one car at the charger I would have parked differently. But literally there were 4 complete spots open and they were still open when I left 3 minutes later. Yikes... I try not to stop in these type of places to re-fuel but I was almost running on empty. They got me. At least they had Chevron or I would not have trusted them at all. It was expensive gas, pumps were old, and the restroom and store were dismal. Part of the store was closed off with Yellow tape like it was some sort of an investigation scene. Scary. It's in the middle of nowhere but the clerk inside was friendly. Weird thing was that Yelp had a check in offer for their house Coffee, but in the store was a sign from the California Water people citing a violation and warning about the safety of drinking the water in this place. Ok, I'm a little prejudiced about this place maybe. I've been driving to Mammoth since the late 70's. I've seen many places on the 395 come and go, and when this place closed for remodeling I was truly bummed. I go for road snacks, beverages, restroom, and sometimes I buy a book, cards, etc. I'm not looking for an conversation on politics, brain surgery, child raising, etc. I've seen some of the same people over the years from pregnancy to birth, see their little ones growing up. Everyone is pleasant, not outgoing, but pleasant. I've never had anyone curse at me, or be openly rude. I think about where I'm at, in the middle of nowhere, with few jobs probably available, the heat, people's personal problems, and I have to take all that into consideration when thinking about working there. Yes, all the employees could stand there and be all sugar sweet and talk endlessly to every customer. I'm not there for that. Pleasant is all I expect and that's what I get. They answer any question I might have, have been helpful more than once on finding an item in the store. I fill up there when I can and my very glad they have rebuilt the store. I'm glad they've put in electric charging stations even tho' right now I don't have an electric car, but will have one in the future. The 395 is a great drive and I appreciate all the people that staff these lonely, sometimes desolate businesses along this road. I think people need to check their own attitudes, tempers (hot and long drives can take a toll), personal needs and expectations. It's a two way street and everyone can have a bad day including customers. I for one am thankful every time I stop, that there's gas, food, beverages, and a restroom. As a woman, and someone that drives up alone most of the time, I feel a lot safer stoping at Coso than at a highway restroom stop. That alone makes it worth it to me. Thanks Coso Junction! read more

Definitely an interesting place, and if you're hungry, need to stretch, or get gas, this is one of the last places you can go for a while. However, if you need to use the bathroom, there aren't any. Or I guess, there is one however it's not working. And I guess that's permanent...? Which is kind of weird. I kept seeing signs about how their bathrooms weren't working 'yes really' one sign said... and others confirming it's definitely not working. You'll also be greeted, or I guess, not greeted by a less than friendly guy at the register. He followed us around with his eyes as if we were going to take something. There is a Yelp check in, which gets you either a coffee or a sofa which is super cool. I'd say those are the only inexpensive things they have here. We are traveling through and we stayed overnight at the rest stop and saw this place across the street being renovated. The old building is in a pile of rubbish behind the new building. Also, clean up your fucking work area, and take care of our planet. It's a disaster, kinda like when the place was actually open lol. I was reading through yelp reviews and I have never seen so many negative yelp reviews about employees poor attitudes and literally cussing customers out, wtf.... I'm so happy to see it demolished. THEN the audacity employee miss Lacy fighting for her life replying to the reviews!! Large parking area for trip in conjunction with rest area. Filthy inside with one employee with a terrible attitude! I went into the restroom both urinals have garbage bags over them because they're broken and the commode was nasty. The entire place had a terrible odor and you could smell the urine walking down the hall before you got near any of the restrooms. I used the facilities and went to wash my hands and there was no soap. There are no doors on the men's room or the ladies room so it was obvious there was no one in the ladies room so I grabbed some soap from there. I went out to the store and was going to make a purchase and I informed the lady that there was no soap in the restroom. Her reply was that sucks! I said excuse me so she repeated it. I said ma'am I was just letting you know and she went back to her phone and ignored me. And all I said was wow. So I proceeded to look for something to buy to support their business since I was able to park and use their facilities but all they had was nasty sandwiches that looked like they had been there way too long and everything was filthy so that, combined with the ladies attitude, caused me to decide not to make a purchase. So as I was walking out the door the lady told me to make sure next time I come through to use the rest area instead of her facility to take care of my business. However her choice of words were not something I would type. I said excuse me? So she repeated herself with even more vulgarity. She said you know this is a business would you like to tell me what you did to contribute to the business other than what you left behind for us? Again those were not her words. I explained to her that I had every intention of making a purchase but when she displayed her attitude to me in conjunction with how filthy the place was I decided I would go elsewhere to make a purchase. she said well next time you come through town make sure you decide to go elsewhere on that trip as well. I told her that I'm sorry she was having such a rough day and the next time I come through I would stop again and try to make a purchase to contribute to the business. And she said oh no you won't! And she wasn't insinuating that I would not stop of my own choice she was insinuating that she would not let me make a purchase. This past Labor Day Wknd 2021, I had planned to stop at the Chevron gas station for potty break and to buy a soda or icetea on my trip down south to Hesperia; however, when I pulled off US-395, I was totally shocked to see the Chevron has been completely torn down and large pile of rubble behind the old building's old site. The area was also completely chainlinked fenced off. I had last stopped at the Chevron on my last trip to Hesperia back in March of 2021, as I have always done on my trips for the past 30+ years. We stopped here for gas, beef jerky, and drinks on the trip from Phoenix to Lake Tahoe. It's really just a quaint little convenience store with friendly, helpful staff. They have a great selection of drinks and beef jerky, which I did not expect for a place that was essentially in the middle of nowhere. I recently went on a trip to Mammoth with my sister, her partner and her dog. Our car broke down halfway through the drive and we were lucky enough to make it into this stop safely. Since it was memorial day calling a tow truck was very difficult and we eventually several hours later that it would not happened. We stayed in the general area of the gas station and rest area across the street for 5+ hours in 100 degree and since our car couldn't turn on we couldn't do anything. Unfortunately our car was set in-front of the diesel pumps but our car was coincidentally was left in front of pumps that were out of service which you could see with yellow caution tape. In this hours we waited we did use the restrooms twice and bought some beverages to stay hydrated. Eventually some family was able to help get a rental car to use while they could get our car back. Now you may be wondering what any of this has to do with a 1 star review, well let me tell you this place is horrible. Like really horrible. When we had gotten there, a man with a black top and shaved head was working the store. About and hour or so after our car broke down there was a different person went to go work the shift, a man with blondish hair, a blue shirt and sunglasses with what I presume to be his daughter. Throughout our entire time of waiting he didn't say anything to us or even went outside to investigate the car, UNTIL we were finally able to leave. He came out as we were transferring our items into our rental car and with loud voice and rude attitude he claimed that we prohibited him from making money on the diesel pumps (which people still used since we were watching our car for 5+ hours) , we should've moved it somewhere else even though the car wouldn't start because it broke down and he told us that we should have stayed in the car. In 100 degree weather, with 3 people and A DOG we were "supposed" to wait in our car. Eventually we were able to leave but my family who had stayed to help move the car out had tried to negotiate with the man to try to get the car out of the parking lot to get it off his hands but with anger than man replied somewhere along the lines of, "I don't give a f*** I own 68 acres of land, park it wherever the h*** you want." After which he called the police on my family. The police had only said to keep the car parked until it could get removed which didn't happen until the next day. If there is any security footage you will see that my family and I never physically touched the man or anyone at all, we bought items from the store and we even got gas for the rental, you can see us waiting for 5+ outside the entire time and you can see the man come up as soon as my family arrives and we start unloading the broken car. This place will literally let you die then yell at you for blocking there out of service diesel pumps that only 4 people used in the span of 5+ hours. Never come here. Never support this business. If I had the power to legally do something I would but sadly I can't so all I can do is spread this message. No one should ever be treated like this for any reason. Shame on the owners for allowing such ignorance to happen and shame on that man who would rather let 3 humans and a dog cook in the heat for the sake of money that he can already get probably already has. read more

Pros: They have restrooms that are decent. They let me charge my devices on an outlet by the freezer. They have a nice picnic area. They are the only gas station/convenience store around. Cons: I used the check-in on here and attempted to redeem my complementary 16 oz coffee. That sentence should be the end of that story - but sadly the resistance I faced made me feel as though I were trying to steal their golden doubloons and not just receiving my rightful beverage. . . My phone (with the Yelp coupon on it) was passed between the employee and the manager (owner, I believe) like a hot potato that had instructions written in Hindi on its rind. . . How such a simple thing could be made into a three-ring spectacle, I shall never know. . . Especially when he was the one who issued this reward. . . After lengthy deliberation and contemplation, that is likely still going on in that store to this day, I left with the rightful coffee in my hand and my bank account not lessened by that $1.59. . . For me I always like to stop places in the middle of nowhere, or at least a few miles from nowhere, and buy a little something to keep them open and keep them rolling. Now it doesn't take much but if everybody buys a little of this and a little of that just to help keep them open and maybe rotate their stock oh, they can make the earth a better place by just being nice and thanking them for being there. If you ever end up there in the time when you really need something and you're in a real bind he'd be wishing they were open and wishing they were real stocked. So help keep them open promote a little Commerce and smile at the way another part of the world lives. I'm sure there's a lot of peace and happiness it can be found watching the stars at night. Especially doing it if you live there, it'll be a lot less fun if you were broke down or needed something and couldn't get it because they were not there. Support those far out places. Don't give these people your business, they don't deserve it. The man who was on duty behind the counter was not working and he is a total jerk, he was playing videos games the whole time. He had the game blaring loudly through his sound bar, it was a very violent game. it was so ridiculously loud that when I politely asked if he could please lower the volume, he loudly said "WHAT?" because it was so loud he couldn't hear me , when he finally did hear me, he immaturely said a few rude things to me in his attempts to blow me off, he did not turn the volume down and continued on with his game as he pleased. Well it's safe to say this gas station has it all -- except a bathroom door on the ladies room.... that's the one and only reason for the 1 star subtraction. Just felt like that should be fixed. Otherwise the variety of jerky is legit, they had holographic wolf posters (that's something I've literally never seen at a gas station), amazingly jumbo sombreros and straw hat collection, more bizarre but cute framed puppy posters (didn't hate it!), Marilyn Monroe T-shirts (ok random but she's fab so see pics below), wonderful candy assortment, what looks like hand widdled walking sticks or if you're feeling ambitious they could be extra large s'mores skewers #crafty, and finally, last but not least, DIY break at home geodes.... now isn't that somethin. We got pop rocks, coconut water and jerky and I had a positive experience with the cashier. Overall: Unique, tasteful and we will be back for sure! read more

This used to be a nice place to stop on the way to Mammoth. Its right next to a state rest stop. But it has fallen on bad times. The gas station sign has fallen and just sits on the ground. The Cafe/Pizza place is long gone. The store is still there. On my trip last month Aug. 2018 I stopped there the bathroom was a mess, Toilet was clogged and stunk to high heaven. I travel the road pretty often. The last 2 times I bought gas at this station the pump gave less and stopped. Basically, if you do not pay attention you get less gas. The clerk in a somewhat rude manner said it happens once in a while and that I should not complain since I am getting the difference back. I am going to notify Chevron main office as well. read more

We went to this Chevron station close to a month ago (see review below). Out of the blue today, an employee of Chevron, Lacy R. (you'll know her by her pink hair) messaged me and accused me of lying in my review and said I filled my cup halfway with soda, not water. I literally laughed out loud that this random business would get in touch with me almost a month after my visit and accuse me of stealing soda! Seriously? I don't drink soda and haven't for 7 years so, she's obviously mistaken about the soda thing. Someone may have filled their cup with soda vs. water (for shame!!) but it wasn't me. Lacy R. told me she and John, the manager of this fine establishment, have me on video and are planning to post it (ha!). I have absolutely no problem with them posting a video as this notorious soda thief is certainly not me. I am even more put off by this business and their customer (dis)service now than I was before. I think they may need to spend less time trying to shame previous customers via month-old surveillance video and spend some more time in training. This Chevron needs new management ASAP. Unless you too would like to be accused of soda thievery or other terrible crimes, avoid...avoid...avoid. read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews. I guess its related to where you come from. The prices are reasonable considering the delivery charges on the fuel they get. Being in the business some years back it is hard to compete with prices that are regulated and affected by fuel districts and delivery charges. I think people are lucky to have a place to stop and get gas along with the most common convenience store items. They have always been friendly and accommodating. They allow truckers, travelers campers and even horse people to use their property for free. I say quit bashing them or they will go out of business and we wont have anywhere to stop in the area. Because I'm from Alaska, I actually bypass cheaper places to support businesses in bush areas, just so they can keep the doors open. I suggest more people do that. read more

First of all--The Coso haters--Coso is a decent rest stop--there is NO WAY it is a 1 star operation--it's aging, a bit rough, but the staff is usually pretty friendly---Coso Junction is usually a great place to stop--we have been stopping there since about 1990--back to the days when there was even a nice Taco Bell in there--Things are a bit shakier now--To be fair, Lacy was quite friendly in a July trip--and less friendly a couple weeks ago..We are good steady customers, and have stopped at Coso about 30 times over the past 25 years..The last time we stopped there, we were saddened when Coso wanted to charge us $10.99 for a 12 pack of Coca Cola soda--This was when Wal Mart in Bishop had that same 12 pack of Coke for $3.00--yet, we can understand Coso needing to earn a good profit--so we would have paid 6.00 for that 12 pack----We did fuel up at Coso-and their fuel prices are fair for being so isolated.....Bathrooms are looking older, but pretty clean..One note--There are those strange condom machines in the men's bathroom--which looked outdated in 1975...Overall Coso is decent , and a nice driving break on Hwy 395.. read more

Every trashcan in the place overflowing, well placed dumpster right in the middle of the gas pumps leaking out juice, the porta potties they use for restrooms full to the toilet seat with feces, ran down premises, expired food... just unbelievable. Stopped to get something cold on the way to Reno and the clerk was beyond rude. His attitude was angry and insulting . All I did was pick out some ice cream and asked him if they had any plastic spoons. He said something I said I'm sorry I didn't hear you he then repeats telling me where in a angry tone and belittling manor that I ignored and started looking toward where he pointed then he says very sarcastically by the microwave, a microwave is that rectangle box with a door on the front of it. I told him I know what a microwave is but what is your problem? He gives me a dirty look and tells me to just grab one. I really don't know what I did to create such anger from a complete stranger but I know I won't be returning and my family who travel this way monthly will avoid this place as well. It's not that bad of a store and gas station but the person who worked today is a very unkind and angry man. Personally this has been an extremely sad day and he made it worse. The station was empty when I pulled in to get gas. Started at Pump 7. It took my card but would not pump gas. Jiggled nozzle, reset nozzle, tried all common nozzle tricks, still no go. Pulled up to the next pump and everything worked flawlessly. I thought I'd report the problem to the male attendant inside. First response: "The pump is working fine, people used it earlier today." No, I told him, I just tried it and couldn't get it to work. Second response: "Oh, there must be something wrong with your card." No, I assured him again, the card worked, but the gas wouldn't pump. The same card worked fine at the next pump I tried. Third response: "You must have had the nozzle in wrong." No, I told him again, I've been pumping gas for 40 years and I tried all of the usual tricks to get the nozzle to work. I had no problems using my nozzle technique with the next pump I tried. Final response: "Well I don't know what to tell you; it's worked for everyone else." Olancha isn't that far and it has a gas station with a nice general store attached. Pearsonville isn't that far either, and they have a Subway shop. There's also Brady's just a bit down the road. They have a very interesting store with a lot of unusual items. You don't have to put up with the rude fool at the Coso Junction gas station; there are far better options near by. read more
