Costa Messa Restaurant strikes a nice balance between casual and fancy, making it a good option for dinner dates or grabbing a quick lunch with coworkers. I went for a work luncheon of over 40 people and they were able to accommodate all of us without feeling crowded, which was impressive. Reservations were made but service was a little slow; honestly, it was reasonable given a party our size. They started each table with complimentary chips and three different salsas: a traditional red, a green avocado-jalapeño style salsa, and a creamy white salsa. The white salsa was the most flavorful--seemed like a sour cream, lime, and garlic concoction. The red and green salsas had a little heat but were a bit watery and bland. I ordered the tacos al carbon. The beef was chopped, well seasoned, and tender, just as described on the menu. It was a solid meal--nothing that completely wowed me, but nothing overly disappointing either. Overall, the food was better than okay, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the restaurant handled a very large group reasonably well. I used to like Costa Mesa Restaurant on I-2, but it has gone down hill over the years. The last time I went there it was a few months ago. I was sat at a table near the kitchen. It was nasty. The table was sticky. The last thing you want is sitting at a table that's sticky. It means it hasn't been cleaned in awhile. The food was bad too. I went there for the last 4 years, so it might have either changed ownership or management, but not for better. I even complained about it on Facebook and they pretended they didn't read it. Will I be returning? Yes! I definitely want to try other things in the menu. We came here early Friday evening for fajitas. Their dishes are served in large portions. We could have definitely shared a plate! The chips and salsas were delicious. They served us a small cup of their veggie soup broth. Delicious too. The only thing I wasn't too fond of, was their refried beans. The server was so attentive and shows he truly enjoys his job. He took his time to recommend other dishes as he encouraged us to return. We had a party of 12 (with reservations). The restaurant wasn't totally full but it was definitely hopping. We requested separate checks, by couple, as we always do. Our table was ready when we arrived and our check request was accommodated without issue. We go out 3-4 times a month with this group that usually 8-12 so we know to ask to split checks up front. I will say that we are not always the easiest group to serve. We're not bad, I could see, however, that we could improve. Like being actually ready to order when we say we are, not making a server makes extra runs where we could easily consolidate, etc. it's clear not everyone in our group has service experience. All that said, our server did well managing us. The food was excellent. She kept our drinks flowing, cleared plates when needed, and generally kept us in line. My better half had the cheese enchiladas (he always does). I had the street taco platter. It was tasty. Along with rice and beans, it's definitely a hearty meal. Glad I didn't eat too many chips. One of our table mates had what looked to me like shrimp brochettes. He said it was delicious, and it looked great. Prices are super reasonable too. I'd say, give this place a try. Our group all said "we'd do this one again". That is pretty high praise coming from a group of senior citizens. They (we) can be hard to please. The 4 stars could easily be 4.5. I've eaten at this location several times previously. The food is decent, nothing outstanding but serviceable. The Beef Fajitas Toreadas were good, the Guacamole appetizer was seemingly only avocado and a little salty. No tomato, jalapeño, garlic or lime which seems odd. In the end it was pretty bland. The chips and three salsa were good. Nice thin crispy chips. I was surprised by the response of one of the wait staff when he was reminded for the second or third time that our dining partners needed tortillas to consume their Queso appetizer. His response was something like, "don't worry about it". Totally uncalled for. Other than that, the meal was decently paced consider there were 18 of us dining. $2 margaritas and a few half price appetizers were the draw to coming here. Not impressed, food was edible at best. Sweetbreads was all breading. Mole chicken was basically a cinnamon sauce on top of the chicken. Queso flameado was really not tasteful. The chicken chipotle soup had rice that was uncooked. And to top it off our waitress took for ever serving us, mainly because she had a party of about 15 people plus several other tables. The food was amazing! My plate was delicious and all the food was hot. The portions were pretty big, so show up hungry like I did! This place will definitely fill you up. We went at a good time so it wasn't so crazy busy and everything was clean and welcoming and the music was on point. This used to be our favorite place to eat when we wanted Mexican food. However we never tried this location. The restaurant was not very crowded for a Saturday night on graduation. The happy hour special sounded interesting so i ordered the cheesy shrimp and hubby had the chimichangas. My order came with a charcoal heater under the plate to keep the loads if cheese melted. It was delicious but way too fattening fir one person. Hubby said his chimichangas were dry and had too much refried beans and hardly any chicken. His margarita was excellent though. I don't where to start, but the food here is just magnificent. I got the Mexican street tacos and they had so much flavor reminded me so much of when I would eat tacos at home. This place used to be my go to place for some good Mexican food but recently they have really gone down hill. The service is not top notch anymore. I was at their new location this past weekend and my Guacamole that I ordered as an appetizer never made it to my table. The food was ok but not what it used to be. Take out portions suffer compared to in person dining. Good to eat in person, but avoid take out. You will be disappointed. Meat is light in the botanas; if you pay extra for charro beans, the tiny cups are half full, and the rice and refried beans that come with the botana for two are only enough for one and maybe a small child. read more

Worst experience ever! Would not recommend you to get the waitresses Graciela she made the experience horrible. We went for my father's birthday, she didn't get my son's drink order,she took forever to take our food order. The food was good and didn't take long, but she didn't give us silverware, so I had to ask for that and wait a bit to receive it so I could eat. We asked if they did anything for birthdays. They sang but that was it. When it was time to pay, my Aunt went to the front to pay. She was told to pay with the waitresses. That took a good 10min, then she had to come ask us all what we ordered so she could get out bill. Like seriously! You took out orders.... Then after we started paying,she said my aunt didn't pay for her drinks. Why did Graciela not charge her drinks when she rang her up? My dad had to pay her drinks which didn't seem right to me. It was his birthday!!! Then as we were walking out, they were bringing a birthday dessert and singing to somene else. My father did not get a dessert.
