DO NOT go to the Costco Optical in Wharton, NJ. Shop around for another option that has reduced pricing or pay a little extra and get customer service that would/should be expected. Apparently, the Costco store optical and the Costco.com dont know that each other exist. read more

Lots of choices and the optician was friendly and helpful. Haven't gotten the glasses yet, but the frames seem to be good quality.

Shopping for vision services within an industry dominated by the Luxottica monopoly (the sprawling Italian conglomerate that owns 80 percent of the frame, lens, retail and insurance markets in the US, think Lenscrafters, Pearle, Oakley and EyeMed, among many others) can be a damnable, frustrating and outrageously expensive exercise. Ironically, Luxottica has taken a page from the extremely lucrative US funeral industry which is dominated by the Service Corporation International and StoneMor Partners conglomerates that set pricing on caskets and services on the vast majority of all funeral services sold in the US. They then distribute all the profits through a soothing network of corporately-owned, local origin funeral homes - that have long since sold out but maintain the ghoulish illusion of community roots and competitive pricing. Sensing this opportunity, Costco will sell you a highly discounted casket (for real) and ship it to the local parlor of your choice... I swear on my grandmother's grave. However, no retroactive discount for you NaNa. Forget Amazing Grace, they should blow Taps for your bank account at every funeral since ultimately, everyone pays the Ferryman on their final journey. But back to your glasses... by the time a typical consumer walks out of Lenscrafters (or other Lux retailer) with an exam, frames and lenses the damages can easily burn a $500+ hole in your pocket, even with insurance. They'll sell you glasses but apparently, transparency and legitimate price competition is for chumps. So what can you do? Personally, I go to Costco where I can get out the door with stylish eyewear for less than $200 outside of the Luxottica cartel and still submit an insurance claim through EyeMed, recouping another 30 percent (approx.) of the cost. After years of rolling loaded dice at the Luxottica casino and being robbed, literally blind, it's refreshing to beat the House on occasion. I was blind but now I see. Amen. read more

I had my glasses done at Costco and when I got home , I found that the frame defected. I came back to the store at Teterboro,NJ , waited at line and was called by the manager, named James. He started telling that it not a defective frame, and then said as a courtesy to the customer, I can pick another frame and they fill do another pair of glasses one time. Then, he said not to go back in line and he will come to me soon. I waited over 30 minutes and he never came back to me. Unacceptable , bad service. read more

My wife needed new glasses and Consumers Reports said that Costco gave the best value. I go to an independent optician but her love for a bargain brought her here. The level of service she received when she was selecting frames was 5 stars - attentive, professional and patient. The tech's name was Hesham and he set a standard for service that merits a raise! Her new glasses came in today and the great service continued but with a different tech. Two for two! The glasses were a good fit and gave my wife clear vision. The price she paid was 1/3 of the price I'm used to at my independent shop. Hmmmm! Great service, excellent value, high quality. 5 stars. read more

I have to hand it to Costco Optical. They have this down to a science. Good service, nice people, great prices, fast delivery. They beat the BJs Optical price by 40%. Received a call when glasses were ready five days later. The only negative is the crowds. They're always busy so you might have to wait a bit. read more

If you buy a Costco Frame, you cannot beat the price, but I wanted to replace a scratched lens in a non - Costco frame. For this service (non-Costco frame) they charge an additional fee of $25. Further, they tell you that if the frame breaks, they are not responsible. While the lens themselves are a good buy, I do not like the additional fee and their attitude about non-Costco frames. Maybe it was the Optician, I do not know, but I await the new lens with guarded anticipation. This policy does not make me want to use them for eyeglasses anymore. Glasses get scratched and the fact that Costco wants to charge more for other dealers' frames just does not seem ethical. read more

So I purchased an iPad from the Wharton Costco and I had to enter my email address in order to get the apple care information. No problem, easy enough. But the next day I realized I didn't receive any email. I then proceeded to call the store where I explained my situation to the person answering the phone named Teresa. Teresa then transferred me to her supervisor named AJ. AJ then asks if I entered the right email address? As if I would enter the wrong email. I then ask him if there is any way to find out if the email was correct and he tells me there is nothing he can do that I would have to contact Apple. Even though I purchased it from Costco? Just yesterday? I didn't feel this was great service. Subpar from the service I've received in the past. I then said I will just come and return the product. He then rudely replied with "do what you have to do." I then hang up. I then proceed to call back and speak to the manager, named Leslie (idk the last name because she refused to give it to me). Leslie then says there is a way to check the Email if I bring back the iPad and they scan it. So why did AJ say there was nothing he could do? Isn't he a supervisor? Shouldn't he know this? And if he didn't know why not put me on hold and ask a manager before saying there is nothing he could do? Needless to say I'm VERY disappointed with the service from Costco and if I could give them 0 stars I would. read more

I used to go to the major chains but got frustrated when two pairs in a row were not prepared correctly and were roughly finished. Based on Consumers Report's reviews, I tried Costco Optical starting for years ago and have had nothing but excellent quality, superior service and ridiculously low prices. This year, my optical insurance change where Costco is "out of network." I thought I would price compare between what my benefits would pay at the major chains, though I definitely preferred Costco's quality. As it turned out, even without optical insurance benefits, Costco was $150 cheaper (!!!) than the chains. Plus, the selection of frames was much more to my liking by yards. I use my eyes for critical work - they are my living. So, optical quality is crucial. Costco's fit, finish, durability and service put them way ahead of the sorry, lazy chains. I hope Costco doesn't figure out that they're charging too little for their quality as compared to the chains. read more

My husband and I have been loyal customers of Costco since 1992. We have been using the Optical department to fill our eyeglass prescriptions for many years and had been very satisfied. That all changed tonight when we went to get glasses and were greeted (well not really greeted but assaulted) by an extremely customer non-friendly, rude, and obnoxious woman behind the counter. She basically barked sanitation instructions at me in a very harsh tone about distancing, how to wear my mask, and how to navigate the store, before I had a chance to walk in. Now I realize that we are all stressed living in this Covid world currently. However, I happen to be a Nurse Practitioner on the front lines in hospitals and well-aware of infection control. I also treat people with respect and dignity. Needless to say, we walked out without making a purchase and I will never patronize Costco's optical department again. People who work in service industries (as I do) need to be able to provide customer service at all times or get out! This refers to the Wharton NJ store. read more

Ordered three pairs of glasses that supposed to be ready 3 days ago. For the past two days I am trying to reach anyone at the optical department to check the status of my orders. No one pick ups the phone! Once the answering machine placed my call on hold where I waited for 15 minutes without anyone answering my call. I then tried to call again and again, and even tried to reach Costco administrator and no one answered there also! They are there for you until you place your order and pay, but after that they do not care! read more

I have purchased several pairs of glasses. The last pair I purchased the frames came apart. I took them in and they replaced them right on the spot. That was good. I have health insurance that covers an eye exam and at the time I checked with Costco they would not except it, so I go elsewhere for my eye exam. I just had my eyes examined and took it to Costo today to have new lens put in my" NEW FRAMES", as I am gettin head aches when I read. Costco would not do it! They said I had to buy new frames and new lenses! Guess I won't be using Costco Optical any more! read more

No way. Inept help. Rude help. Inconvenient hours. Three strikes and you're out. I went there today because I needed new glasses and en eye exam. I was a previous customer but had gone elsewhere in the intervening years. So the slob looks at me when I come in and I say "I need glasses." No response - strike one - so I said "So I guess I need to make and appointment?" and she says yes. I tell her I was a patient a few years ago and I give her my name and spell it - it is an unusual spelling - and she doesn't even sit down at the computer, just types it in once and says "Are you sure you were a patient? Our computers go back 15 years.", so I said I know it was no 15 years ago. Strike Two. So I figured hey I need glasses so let me make an appointment. She asks when. I say Wednesday. She says "We are closed on Wednesday." STRIKE THREE. I'll take my business to Lenscrafters or some place else. These people have to learn that customers want what they want when they want it and a little bit of courtesy goes a long way. The woman failed all around. Forget it. read more

Although the prices are good, my new glasses broke twice before they were a year old. Twice, they had to order a completely new replacement frame because proper parts were unavailable and I was told that this is the last replacement! (as if it were my fault - I've worn glasses all of my life and know how to handle them property). I think it is unfair of them to tell me that if the nose pad falls off again before they are one year old it is my problem and I will just have to purchase a whole new set of glasses. So, it is not such a bargain if I need to buy new glasses inside of one year due to no fault of my own. My husband's glasses aren't doing so well either but he brought them to a different optician for repair. read more
