I am an Executive Member. I want to lead with that because it matters, the way a blood pressure number matters, in that it tells you something about the kind of person you're dealing with before they open their mouth. The Executive level costs $65 more per year than the Gold Star, which sounds like a lot until you understand that the Gold Star is for people who are still deciding whether they need a five-gallon jar of pickle relish in their life. You do. You don't know it yet. That's the Gold Star experience. The Executive gets you 2% cash back, which last year came to $47.12, which I spent on a rotisserie chicken and a bag of coconut clusters. I have no regrets about this. I have a system at Costco. Mrs. W. calls it "the problem" but I call it a workflow, which is a word that shouldn't exist outside of software but has become load-bearing on my Saturdays. I take a cart immediately, before I've seen a single thing I need, because without a cart I feel unmoored in a way that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't stood in a warehouse the size of a small European country holding nothing. The samples are called samples. I call them lunch. I made this joke to a man handing out cubes of teriyaki chicken on a toothpick near an end stand of guacamole and he did not laugh, but he gave me two, so we understood each other. My wife would consider this a "bro moment." The system, if you're new to this, is a wide spiral: something savory near the back, a cracker somewhere in the middle, something sweet near the front, and then, if the timing works, a second pass at the teriyaki man, who by now has either forgotten your face or is pretending he has, as an act of mercy for both of you. The aisle people are the problem. Not all of them, the specific ones who park their cart diagonal to the traffic flow and stand in front of the frozen lasagnas with the expression of someone who has never before encountered a frozen lasagna and must now make peace with the concept. I have catalogued these people over many visits and I believe, with some confidence, that they are Gold Star members. There's a looseness to them, a lack of urgency, that speaks to someone who hasn't yet committed at the Executive level. Committing at the Executive level changes you. You move with purpose and you know, without consulting anyone, where the coconut clusters are. You don't stop in front of the lasagna. My son Henry, who is eight, calls me a "Costco dad" in a tone that suggests this is not entirely a compliment. I take it as one anyway. A Costco dad knows the rotisserie chickens come out at 3:00, has a preferred cashier (Dina, lane 7, very fast, once told me my cart was "very organized," which ranks in the top five compliments I have received as an adult), and feels a specific satisfaction walking to his car with a full cart of things he didn't know he needed two hours ago. That's what Saturdays are for. Four stars because they moved the coconut clusters. read more

I got a membership after years of dragging my feet, and I fully expect it to be busy and packed. The food court ordering was confusing and then they called my number that it was ready but got very annoyed with me when I tried to take my items because she needed to count them. Confusing. I did however have an amazing experience with buying glasses. Shea was wonderful and explained my prescription to me and told me a pair of frames I picked out for me didn't work for my face (and he was right) even when they were a higher in price than the ones he picked out. I do like Costco and I like them a lot! I borderline love this retail giant! This particular store seemed much larger than the one I most frequently visit in Spartanburg, S.C. My daughter and I accompanied by my newest grandson really enjoyed our visit. She bought several items and I only bought one. I always buy a case or two of the small water bottles. They are more expensive than the regular sized ones but it eliminates wasted water. I frequently purchase the Kirkland four packs of bacon and find it superior in taste to the more recognized national brands! I personally cannot find any fault concerning the inside but the traffic in and out of this place is horrendous! Do I really like Costco? You bet I do! read more

I'm not sure what changed at this store, perhaps it's bad leadership, high stress, and/or just a sign of the times, but the staff at this store are often seemingly irritable and no longer friendly like they were when I started shopping at this Costco 5 years ago. The pharmacy staff is like playing Russian roulette, you have a decent chance of getting someone grumpy who acts like you're inconveniencing them by needing an anything outside of a simple prescription pick up and often won't even make eye contact with you. The cashiers at the front end are in the similar boat. They'll snap at you not to stack items any way they don't like, and often speak in short labored responses, it's just unpleasant and unacceptable when you pay for the privilege of shopping there. I'd think twice about shopping here as Costco's shopping experience is anxiety inducing without all the staff concerns, but coupled with that, it's just not worth it to continue to shop here. read more

Cheers for Cassidy in the Optometry Department! I went there Wednesday to see about frames for my new glasses prescription. Of course the ones I liked happened to be the designer glasses (go figure) . These obviously come with a higher price tag than the ones on the wall display. That said, they're going to be on my face for a while and I felt those were the ones. I just know when something works. So. I went for it. I have a BCBS rider of VSP vision. Cassidy went the extra mile, obtained the needed information about my coverage, even though I didn't have the correct card. Well I can safely say that this is not somewhere I will be coming back to. All I wanted was a costco hot dog and ice cream, wasn't even here to shop. Traffics awful on the way there and the parking lot is even worse. Took me at least 30 minutes to find a parking spot, just overall poorly designed parking lot. So I'm already frustrated and then I walk inside to finally get my hot dog. I walk in with my mom's costco card, scan it, and walk in with a smile on my face. Then this stupid worker with this weird Hawaiian shirt stops me. Oh and by the way its february first and were a couple thousand miles away from Hawaii bud, I'm not sure what imaginary world he was living in. Anyways, he stops me and says that's not you. Well no crap it wasn't me it was my mom's picture. I said, "That's my mom." He responded with, "well if shes not here you can't come in" in a rude snarky tone. Man costco you really need to get your workers in check and knock some sense into them. That's just ridiculous. But at least there's a Sam's Club thats a little bit farther from me, but its worth it to get away from that little crap box called Costco. I've only been in this store once and it's because I didn't have the best first experience. When getting my ID picture, the lady helping me was very helpful and friendly but she was distracted talking to other coworkers. Apparently she'd gotten there hours earlier than another yet he was getting off for lunch before her, and it was 2 in the afternoon. As someone who's had an unfair manager, thumbs down from me. Secondly, when checking out, I didn't know what to do and neither did the woman in front of me, she was only holding a few items. A worker then called her over to a lane that had the "closed" sign on the conveyor part but assuming the worker was opening the lane, I followed the lady. After putting the items on the conveyer, I turned back around to see the worker talking to an associate who looked at me in disgust and said "Do you not see the sign". Really? I then responded with "I followed the lady she called over, I thought she was opening the lane". The worker then said "because you're here I'll help you" then stared at me with the scanner and rudely said "your card" and I said "thank you, oh sorry it's my first time" then for the rest of the transaction, she ignored me. The store itself is great but the workers really make the experience. I think the management needs a little work and some workers could be more graceful and understanding. read more

I finally have a costco membership! Clubbin in my 30's. This is a very large warehouse. I only come here right when they open to beat the crowds. The whole store is organized and prices are good for what it is. I love doing the "self checkout" where they scan my own items for me. It's much faster. The paid membership is a fking nightmare to get but once you do it's superduper worth it! Customer service isnt the best and I have yet to meet a wonderful cashier but everything is always in stock! The free samples are amazing because if your broke like me, it's a blessing! Getting here is also a fking nightmare because its on Woodruff road, but you cant go wrong with the Costco! Self check out lanes I am from Ohio and we do not have self check out lanes. I hope these are so successful that they are rolled out to each location. There are many times when I only have a few items and want to check out quickly and cannot. The store is laid out very nicely. If you go at the right time the sample carts are out. I like getting to try things that I otherwise wouldn't buy. Sometimes after a sample I find out how good the product is and I pick a box up. The staff is cheerful and happy to have you shopping at their store. read more

Is Costco Rotisserie Chicken smaller as of May 2024 and why are they being sold in a plastic bag, hot out of the oven? This packaging is very inconvenient as you have to spear the chicken to get it out of the bag, put it on a cutting board to slice and then put the remaining chicken in another container & cover it with something OR you can put the unused chicken back into the bag and let it roll around in its own fat in the refrigerator. Long time fan of nearly all things Costco (food court, pharmacy, liquor store, gas station, etc) but will readily admit their sample tables are one of my favorite aspects of shopping here. A visit could jokingly be deemed successful or a fail based on how many and what type of samples were offered that trip. Among the many changes and adaptations during the start of the pandemic, Costco paused their sample stations altogether. I didn't have too much hope for their return but to my and many other customers' delights they have figured out a way to make it happen! SAMPLES ARE BACK! It is a different experience than walking around the store snacking on hot, cooked food but honestly it might be even better in my opinion. Their samples are now all individual servings of pre-packaged, sealed container items. One recent trip I walked out with fruit snacks, a chocolate filled crepe, crunchy sesame rolls, and a granola bar. Because they give you a packaged item it's typically a whole serving versus just one bite or cut up piece. One huge stipulation is that the sample servers very kindly ask that you don't open the product while you are still shopping in the warehouse! This is totally understandable considering that Costco is currently requiring their customers to wear face coverings in the store. It's tempting to want to try what they're offering as soon as you get it but hopefully people will keep things in their purse or pocket until they leave so that the sample stations will stick around! read more

I am from out of town and stopped by this Costco to pick up a few items. About two weeks ago, I had to have a tired repaired that I purchased from Costco. I thought it wise to get the tire air checked. I went to the bay area and asked for help. I saw the staff standing around talking. When I asked to get air in my tires I was told to follow directions. This is an area that I am not good at because there was an accident a few years ago with putting air in a tire. Since then, I never perform this activity myself. I was told they were really busy. I have been in a lot of states and always find a Costco and the customer service is impeccable. Not this one. I waited for a while and left. Customer training should be a priority here. I love me some Costco...but you shoppers need training. Get across the way in the parking lot (diagnoal lines are not the shortest route.) There is 0 reasons to turn your buggy sideways or abandon it while you go look for grapes in a main path. I will t-bone or remove it . That being said. Oh! my! Soul! This is the third warehouse sales venue to which I've belonged over the years and I believe Costco is the "keeper!" EVERYONE is gracious , friendly and helpful. On each visit, there are NUMEROUS food sampling displays. The merchandise is unique and reasonable. The Costco brand merchandise is EXCELLENT. WE've visited four times since our initial visit when we enrolled and each time we have been satisfied with our purchases. We're delighted to be a part of this organization. If you're considering looking into Costco, you can get a "day pass" to check it out. You cannot purchase unless you become a member. I have four kids, among them are three teen aged boys still living at home. They chow down! Costco is excellent for us because of the economical sized items and the convenience and selection factors. We can't run a short order kitchen all the time, so I taught the boys how to cook. One staple is eggs - scrambled, fried, soft boiled, and even deviled. Costo sells five dozen eggs for about $8.50, which is around $1.25 per dozen. The best deal at Costco is the vacuum packaged, hand pulled rotisserie chicken breast. So the sell the rotisserie chicken, awesome in it's own right, but when the chicken reaches its "shelf life" they pull the breast meat and vacuum pack it. $12.49 for a two lb package. It is vacuum sealed, so today's purchase on 4/22/18 is good if unopened until 6/9/2018. Coming home from work and need a quick meal? Homemade chicken noodle soup, chicken pot pie, chicken and rice, chicken enchilada's, chicken stir-fry, etc. are all less than an hour preparation time. Same thing with a bag of frozen shrimp. Another good deal, Costco 1/4 lb all beef hot dog and a 20 ounce fountain drink for $1.50. The store is clean, bright, the layout is easy to flow. The only two big negative issues are the parking, which is crowded and crazy, and the check out lines, which move quickly but are always zoo like. If you are a frequent shopper, google up and read "secret Costco price codes." No need to repeat it here, but some good information on the best deals. read more

When it comes to Vision Centers you're looking for a great Eye Doctor, a large selection of glasses, multiple lenses choices, customer service and a decent price. We found every area at Costco in Greenville. We bought both of our adult sons an Eye Exam and two pair of glasses for one of their Christmas presents. One pair for both of them is Sunglasses. The exam was $70.00 and the Eye Doctor was thorough, professional and the exam included dilating their eyes -- looking deep into and behind their eyes. For both they bought High Index Lenses, Anti-reflective lenses and higher end frames. Their Sunglasses were polarized and also in a higher end frame. The glasses arrived in 5-days and are awesome. The most expensive set (both pairs) was $283.00. A couple years ago at Eye Mart Express, while on sale we paid $550.00. Four years ago at Lens Crafters, the cheapest set was $700.00. Reviewing the old and new glasses next to each other Costco's are thinner lenses and definitely more modern. My thought is this is the best place to get glasses in Greenville. 5-Star good!
