Our community theatre has rented costumes from companies across the U.S. for more than a decade and has never experienced something like this. We rented costumes from Costume World for Crazy for You and received multiple garments that were extremely poor quality and unusable. Some pieces literally came apart, and the fit was not remotely close to the measurements we provided. We ultimately had to costume most of the show ourselves at additional cost. When we raised concerns, instead of professionalism, we received an email from Marilynn, the owner of Costume World describing our high school actresses as: "real big girls with bad figures" and stating: "we're not making new dresses for this size people" She also wrote: "I'm looking at these pictures and trying to figure out where these girls came from...they don't have figures." These comments were directed at teenagers who volunteer countless hours for community theatre. Not to mention, they are beautiful, extremely active girls! Completely unacceptable. When we requested a partial refund for the unusable costumes, the business denied it and dismissed our concerns. We also paid for extra shipping even though they later claimed we did not. We have worked with many costume houses with wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, this company did not meet basic standards of respect or quality. If you are a school or community theatre, I strongly recommend renting elsewhere. No organization -- especially one working with young performers -- should ever receive communication like this. read more

Was helped by Amber, these folks are the sweetest and most helpful people and were more than accommodating and helpful even for those who just want tips on cosplaying or some cosplay supplies, like body paint or wig caps. The warehouse is gigantic and they have close to just about any type of costume you can imagine to rent. I Picked the outfit out by myself I found all the pieces to that outfit by myself & a nice employee also helped me with a few others but I like what I picked , long story short, it came down to the fitting and how the outfit looked, the outfit had holes was dirty I was told that it would be clean for my event and it wasn't , only thing they did was sew the parts that had holes, I was told I was going to get an adjustable band and it wasn't even adjustable had 3 other ppl trying to help me with the band just for the band to POP before my entrance to my PARTY! THEY RENT OUT DIRTY USED COSTUMES FOR FULL PRICE and make it seem like it's NEW! I should ran after the first time when they gave me a dirty costume for my photoshoot back in July. Jadene at Costume World took advantage of me. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I had to find a Tinman costume at the last minute due to a local theatre providing us the wrong-sized Tinman costume, so I took it upon myself to rent one with Costume World. First off, Jadene insulted me for being the biggest Tinman she'd heard as I am 250-60lbs, then proceeded to charge me nearly $500 for a DIY Tinman costume that DID NOT match the pictures listed on the costume World website. Lowering my stars to 0!! for the (non-existent) customer service. Just came to get the zipper fixed, as they promised... First of all, the girl doesn't even greet me. She just takes the costume from me and goes to the back. Comes out after 5 minutes and says "they're fixing it"... I don't see her again until 20 minutes later with my dress. They left the same "industrial" size zipper they added on Saturday, which is obviously different to the other on the dress. I asked her why would they do that and she replies "what do you expect for a $70 costume" with an attitude. I told her I get better quality online, for less and she said "you should have gotten it online then". As I'm walking out I hear her saying to Britney, her coworker, "she's still bitching". No, I am not! I am demanding good customer service that should be required in any establishment. A Halloween review! Costume World has a large selection of rental and over-the-counter packaged costumes. Masks, fake knives, fake blood.. you name it. Even some high end costumes similar to sports mascots. Bears for instance, where you have to wear a huge head with a custom made bear costume. Costume World is open year round. My only complaint with all of these costume companies is that they only carry small and medium sizes of the over-the-counter costumes. If they say large they are really just large for a young teen kid. They need much more real adult sizes since a lot of adults like to dress up for Halloween these days. read more

I read all the reviews before going. However this company and their staff were awesome. Patience cannot describe how much time they ALL spent with us smiling and helping us choose our rental and planned bought costumes. In fact, I actually ended up cancelling the one if I was going to buy.. after leaving, I had asked them over the phone to prepare an outfit for me and I had planned to return the next day to see if it could work.. . There was no attitude and no drama.. She had no problem when I showed up today to buy some other products, they were even more helpful. The amount of stuff in the store and the quality are all much better than the other pop-up shops that I have been to where I had already wasted my money. Please try these people and see for yourself. From the moment I walked in with my sister and friend, our sizes range from 8-14. The woman said "these costumes are for show girl sizes only". I kept looking around, their inventory was massive. I was looking for a feathered skirt. The cigarette smelling, deep voice woman just wanted nothing to do us. Everything we asked "we don't have that". My sister found some robes, brought them to front. Again the nasty lady said "those are $500 to rent" also put them back where you found them. Not for you. Do not rent from this place. They do not know the meaning of customer service. I rented a costume for a few weeks before Halloween. About 2 weeks before pick-up, my trip and party was cancelled. I called and spoke to them and they said they would get back to me on the cancellation...but I told them that I was not going to pick it up and they confirmed that the alterations were not done. We notified them in both writing and 2 phone calls that we were canceling and they advised they had not started any of the alterations that were needed to get the costume ready for my rental. Even with the cancellation notice, they charged my card and told me it was because I returned it too late. Question is...if I canceled it and never picked it up...how did I return it late? It seems they just look for a way to charge no matter what. I had heard horror stories about this place and they came true for me. In preparation for a Tim Burton themed event, we stopped in to check out their rentals. My sister and I both wear plus sizes and while their selection was limited, they did have some really gorgeous things for us to try on. The person helping us was absolutely fantastic and kept running into the back room to pull things out for us. I think he was having as much fun as we were. After about 20 min of playing dress up we were not ready to commit to renting the gowns. The price was a little out of our budget, plus we weren't sure if this was the direction we wanted to go. The attendant did not make us feel bad at all and actually offered to put the gowns and various accessories near the front of the store room so that if we changed our minds they would be easy to find. We were so pleased with our experience that we ended up going back to rent a costume for someone else in our group. The attendant remembered us and was overly accommodating, once again. The price was great and he found exactly what we wanted in a matter of minutes. I can hardly wait for Halloween to get here so I can go back! Quick, someone throw a costume party and invite me. It drives me crazy when a business flat out lies to customers! This business doesn't even have the decency to come back on to Yelp to respond to previous poor reviews. Here's what just happened... My husband and I are dressing up in classic Star Trek uniforms this year for Halloween. In a search for phasers, he called around to Spirit of Halloween stores with no luck. When he called Costume World, the lady on the phone said, "Oh yes. We have tons of that stuff, both for sale and for rent." He then clarified, "Now, we're looking for Star Trek, not Star Wars." He was then reassured that there would be phasers as well as other Star Trek accessories. Fast forward two days (to TODAY) -- My husband drove down from Delray Beach to Costume World to get the Star Trek items. He walked to the "sale" side and asked about phasers and other accessories. "No, we only have the costumes", replied the employee, who then pointed to the Star Trek costumes on the wall. "Really?" replied my husband, "Because the lady on the phone said that you had tons of Star Trek accessories, both for sale and for rent." After a group search of the wall where the sci-fi weapons were located, they confirmed that they didn't have much Star Trek stuff at all, but suggested I go to the rental side. My husband quickly found two ladies working the "rental" side and asked, "Do you have any Star Trek phasers or accessories for rent?" The reply was, "No, we don't have any Star Trek accessories at all." When he explained that the lady on the phone said they had "tons of stuff", he was informed, "Those people answering the phones just sit in a back room and tell you we have everything. They don't have any idea what we have. I guess they try to get you in here and then it's our job to sell you things." Yes, an employee said that! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Came in to rent a costume for Halloween, the helmet had a lot of potential but was falling apart but for $35 I wasn't going to make any fuss about it. Their policy is you have to return the product in 24hrs or else you'll receive a late charge for each day which is at same cost. Next evening I walk in with the helmet and the paperwork, waiting patiently to return it. Once getting to the receiver they couldn't find my rental paperwork that I filled out less then 24 hours ago. So the lady (forgot her name) had me put my information on a separate paper and sent me on my way, said I was good. 5 days pass and I'm checking my bank statements per usual, and what do I come to find? Two charges for $35 dollars deducted from my account. I honestly wasn't even surprised because I see how horrible there communication and structural management is so out of line. I called immediately and spoke with "Maria" on the phone explained what happened and she said they will call me back by today for sure and not to bother coming in the store because it wouldn't be necessary. Two days pass and no word from Costume World so I go in at opening hours asking for a manager, state my complaint and demand a refund. Took roughly 35min. until I saw what I believe was the manger "Shantel" she explained that they must of lost my paper work and apologizes and cuts me a check of $70.00. I've read all of the bad reviews and I'm puzzled. I've rented costumes here twice over the past eight years, and purchased accessories a few times also. I've never had any issues, and I remember laughing it up a couple of times while having a costume fitting with one of the young assistants. They're not perfect regarding their accessory stock, I'd guess that's forgivable as customers probably are returning stuff and new customers renting the same stuff within hours... So the nature of the business, particularly at frantic times (Halloween), (NYE), has to be considered. As does their rigorous NO RETURN policy. All in all, I'm glad to have Costume World here. I'm a dancer, and we often have themed dance parties, and we take our outfits pretty seriously! We need costume world! I've never been treated rudely. I treat the staff respectfully, and respect their store policies. They respect me too. Best costumes and accessories in our area. Hence, 5 stars. read more

Every time I step into the store an employee is hustling me and following me around the store like I'm a convict. The store has the oldest cash register and still use hand written receipts. Don't even think about asking for a refund or exchange because the old miserable owners toss the items back at you and don't accept your items. I have never been treated so poorly. Got there and door was locked i banged on the door and someone who i think was manager smiled as she let me in stating they'd nevr turn away anyone. Next thing i know this wonderful women pulled out for me the cutest and sexiest (but classy) Mrs Clause I'd yet to see. in fifteen minutes flat she had pulled togather a complete head to toe outfit. Something about renting a costume someone has used for something I don't know it was used for makes me squeamish. I'm not to saying I know how they clean their costumes, but just like the thrift store, used clothing just doesn't sit well with me. On the other hand, they have a lot of costumes to buy for yourself for Halloween. The problem: the high price and the cheap quality of Halloween costumes these days. One of the worst experiences with a costume company ever. The lack of communication was ridiculous. We asked Jadene, their rep, numerous times for a quote for the costumes we wanted to rent for our high school show, and each time was met with a, "It will be emailed to you." As director, I finally had to step in as we were approaching our dress rehearsal date and had no photos or prices. They mailed our contract, 2 weeks prior to our opening date - to the wrong person at the wrong address - and never followed up. When we called them back for the umpteenth time, they overnighted another copy, still with no itemized quote. I finally pushed and they emailed me the pricing, which was double our budget - over $18k - for a high school production. I ended up cancelling half the costumes and renting them elsewhere. Some of the ones we did rent arrived damaged - with burn marks , others the seams were open, sequins were missing, Velcro was coming off, they were dirty, Many of them didn't fit - even after we supplied measurements. The worst part was they never shipped the costumes when they said they would. They lied numerous times with no regrets. We were going into dress rehearsal with none of their costumes. They said they were shipped on a Thursday & we would have on Friday. Friday comes, no costumes. Then they said they shipped on Friday and we would have on Saturday. A few came on Saturday - called and asked where the rest were - they were shipping Monday. Get the pattern. And they don't return phone calls. There were days I called them multiple times, because I was promised a phone call back by a specific time because things were missing. Our opening night was a Thursday and some of our costumes didn't arrive until the day before - And then they didn't fit. Also be wary - some of their costumes are one size fits all. As long as your cast is over 6' tall, you will be ok. Our's wasn't. Some of the costumes were good, albeit not worth the prices they are charging. We were very disappointed in many of the ones we did get. I can't justify spending $200 for a costume that needs to be sewed every night because it was falling apart. And they don;'t supply return address labels - like most other costume companies do. Unless they are the only company that has costumes for your show, find another source for your costumes. read more

I had so much fun here!!! So i Went in the other day to get a cheap roman costume. And to my surprise they has so much more to offer. I was Helped by 2 young men named Anthony and Mark. They were so helpful and fun. i ended up renting a Roman solider costume from them and the Quality of it is AMAZING! I got Everything i needed. Sword, Metal Chest Piece, the Helmet, Shin guards, and wrist gauntlets. My advice Go see them!! They have Everything!!! read more

Their back office staff member named Jadine handled my costume dissatisfaction professionally and offered to repair it immediately. When I went back in, they gave me their senior seamstress named Lorena whom is beyond amazing-- she is a true professional, patient, kind and has a keen eye to detail which is exactly what we all want in a tailor. She can transform anything you have... WHAT EVER YOU DO...DONT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. I had a great event to go to and was excited to use this place. We rented the costumes and my daughter had to return her costume to me before returning it. The fee was an an outrageous to begin with $675 for the three but I paid it. No one told us about the return date we just signed where they wanted us to because the shop was closing. I returned the costumes four days late not knowing when the return date was and they charged me $2,800 more in late charges!!!! Yes, the fees were $2,800 in late charges for four days. When I called they basically told me I should have known better and tough luck. If you rent from these people you are crazy! read more

I cannot recommend this company. Our son's school rented a a Tinman costume. It was shipped to us in poor condition. When he went to try it on, we were given a roll of duct tape to tape up the broken parts that were very obvious. The bow was torn, the arms had been broken and repaired with fishing line and duct tape, the foam ring around the bottom was partially detached from the body. After using it for dress rehearsal, several costume changes later, we noticed the top of the body had split. Aside from all these defects, it's not built for quick, easy costume changes. It takes a couple people to get the costume on, unless you have a tall, strong person to help. The cost was ridiculous for the quality. read more
