A great snack and food area called the hat trick. I got a hotdog which was good. They even have real chick fil sandwiches available to buy! Mind blown. The place was very comfortable and it wasn't too cold. Lots of fun vendors selling stuff too.

We had a great run coming up here to skate. This past weekend was my first time back at the rink in over 3 years. For hockey again however this time to watch my nephew who was in town with his team for a Showcase. It was good to get back to the rink and watch some hockey. We can now also say that generations of is have skated on these rinks. A total of 8 rinks. This is quite the complex. I know they have soccer fields and other events however we were always here for hockey and in the State of Hockey, this will always be a popular place.

I recently went to the Skate Ranch witha few friends and I have not had that much fun in a long…read moretime. I am not a teenager or even in my thirties, but we laughed and had a riot. My friends and I agreed that we would make a monthly event of skating. The atmosphere was so positive and all your cares just leave. Of course, we all thought we could go pro, but we knew that would be a joke on to many levels. The stress of the week was forgotten and we all said this will become at least a twice a month adventure. The owner, Sarah was down to earth and even gave us tips on not falling as often as we all did. All I can say... if you have had a hard week, or want to go have fun and laugh... Looks like any wheels go as they have bikes, scooters, roller skates/blades to use. The price is fair $8 to be on the floor. I just wish they had more hours, but I guess they probably don't get a lot of business. The couple who run it are really helpful and friendly. An update I'll mention is to call 1st before you go to make sure they are open. As far as I know it's Friday 7-10, Saturday is only for strictly parties, Sunday's during the school year maybe open, but owner said call 1st.

WinterSkate is the Cutest. Date. Ever…read more Outdoor activities are one of those things that make Twin Cities winters slightly more bearable. Rice Park is another one of those things, with its pretty twinkling lights... and the majestic Landmark Center backdrop doesn't hurt either. Together, WinterSkate comes to life as an outdoor rink right in the middle of St. Paul. This year, it's open from Nov. 26 to Feb. 5. They have a warming house for changing your skates and staying cozy. The rink itself isn't huge, but I basically just need room to lurch around like a Frankenstein and then fall... so I'm good. Best part aside from the fact that you have an instant date-night? Skate rentals are only $2 and the rink itself is FREE. So what are you waiting for? Oh yeah, winter has to come first. Built in 1974, the City of Hastings owns and operates this two sheet facility. With the classic wood beams barrel roof design, it is one of the great, nostalgic rinks of the state. You will find similar classics in New Hope, Burnsville, and not many other locations like this one. In 1997, the city built a second (concrete rectangle) rink and expanded the lobby, concession, and locker room facilities. Both rinks are regulation NHL sized. The East Rink (Original), has a capacity of 1,000 and the West Rink can seat 200. This facility is among the prize jewels of Hastings. Along with Todd Field at McNamara Stadium, the high school stadium along Vermillion Street, the classic downtown, and memories of the old Spiral Bridge.

Most open skates are on the west rink. The east rink is a great hockey rink. 1970s domed wood ceiling with a lot more seating offered. Raiders play their home games on this rink. Because I was accompanying kids and didn't plan to skate, there was no entry fee. 2) There's an online schedule showing the different event times, and when applicable target ages. We brought my partners kids on a Thursday during the 5p-7:30p slot because 8-10p was 21+ (that day). The 5p slot didnt list ages, but tuns out it was mostly little kids. Additional teens and older people started showing up later, but still seemed younger age focused (with group games like hula hoop). 3) There's a decent number of arcade games for the space. If you don't have quarters, you can use the change machine. While the assortment of games was good, my gripe is that we counted 84 tickets won playing. However their ticket counting machine only accounted for 66. While the experience was okay, I think it's a nice option with a good selection of music, decent sized rink, fair pricing (cant speak for concessions) and a nostalgic feel.
