While driving around on the rattly, bumpy roads outside Escalante, we noticed a slow leak in one of the tires. We filled the tire, but it partially deflated overnight. Fortunately, we were staying right down the street from Cottam's Auto Service, and they were able to get us in and fix the leak first thing this morning, for what I felt was a very fair price. So far, so good; we're in Vegas, 350 miles and half way home, and the fix is holding. During the shaking we experienced on those roads, one of our headlight bulbs went out. Unfortunately, Cottam's didn't have the bulb. While friendly enough during my visit, it's very clear (in your face in more ways than one) what the proprietor's political leanings are. read more

Service was horrible, the lady at the front was very rude. The gas station was too crowded to even get gas.

None of the staff wear masks. Therefore, none of the local customers wear masks. I enjoy patronizing businesses in small towns while passing through. But this business does not respect their customers enough 2 make for a safe shopping environment. While in the mini Mart I talked to a tourist family. They were as shocked as I to realize that no one in this store show any sign of recognizing the more than 300,000 covid-19 fatalities. read more

We came here with broken pipe supports under our Jayco Redhawk. We were far from home, and had no luck finding other mechanics to fix the RV. But here at Cottam's the job was done quickly and professionally for a very reasonable price. Too bad we live so far, otherwise they would be our mechanics for all our cars. Thank you! read more

Oh man we can't thank Cottam's Phillips 66 enough. We were driving through Escalante when we hit a bump and our tail-hitch luggage rack broke. The rack would no longer stay up and was dragging. Luckily, very nice people stopped and offered to take our stuff to the next town. Well the next town did it have what we needed so they helped us to Escalante where we found Cottam's Phillips 66. The two gentlemen there helped us fix our rack even though they had places to go. You do not know what that meant to us, as we have three small children and our car would not have fit our luggage. read more

Pulled in looking to get a broken rear turn bulb replaced...mechanic took care of it and a burned out brake light on the other side while I stood there. When I asked how much I owed him he said come inside...looked up a price and said $3.10 for the bulbs and that's it. WOW. read more

(3.5 Stars) Only auto shop in town that can get your car needs to be fixed. I was on a week road trip and didn't have much time. Dakota (mechanic) provided honesty, communication, and was quick to act. I recommend to them using more companies (not just NAPA) as partners to have options for parts that can be available. My alternator went out 6 miles up the road. I got it towed to Cottam's. They diagnosed it quickly and effectively. They called back to tell me the alternator is out and a new one won't be there for another week. I did not have a week. I knew my alternator is very common and auto stores usually carry them. I, myself, called auto shops and parts stores in the surrounding areas and found one at Auto Zone in Cedar City (2.5 hours away) that would be there in 12 hrs. The only issue was that I did not have transportation to get the part to Cottom's. From my understanding, they only use NAPA Auto Parts as a resources for parts and tools. In the end, I had to call a carrier service that charged an arm and a leg for them to deliver it. Once they did the mechanic replaced my alternator quickly and effectively in which I made it home safely. read more

We, like so many people on a vacation through the wonderful National Parks, cars can break down, which we did....lost the bearings, drum and calipers on the left front wheel. We 'crawled' to a stop to this gas station, and lo and behold, right behind the station was a Napa Auto Parts repair shop.... of course they were closed for the night, so we walked up the street two blocks and found a cool hotel (The Cowboy Country Inn....review in another post.) Came back the next day, talked to Jim, and he got everything on order, it took a couple days, but then again, they're in the middle of nowhere after all....He worked hard and fast, got it all done, along with new brake pads. We got charged an amazingly little amount for all the hard work he did... completely honest and the work, impeccable!!! Bravo..... read more

My check engine light came on briefly while I was in town on a cross-country road trip. I stopped here in hopes someone could take a look and help put my mind at ease since I still had many miles ahead of me. They kindly ran the diagnostics, said I was good to go, and didn't want to charge me a thing. I insisted they take the $5 I had in my wallet but would have gladly paid more just to have the peace of mind. read more

SCAM ALERT Do NOT take your vehicle here. (If we could give negative stars we would) My husband is a disabled combat veteran and a certified mechanic that these locals decided to take for a ride. They do not finish the job and are incredibly unprofessional. Lack of work ethic resulted in thousands of dollars worth of repairs once we got our vehicle back home, 1600 miles away. (After paying them for an unfinished job)They ruined our vehicle. A local also informed us that after paying them 2000 dollars they failed at fixing her vehicle as well. When we showed up to get our vehicle the lead mechanic was eating his lunch in our car, insanely unprofessional. read more

If I could give Cottam's Phillips 66 more than 5 stars I would! I've been meaning to write this review for a while, and I'm finally taking the time to do it. In 2017 I took our 3 kids (then 7, 8, 12) for an 8 weeks cross-country adventure. We had a 2011 suburban and a popup camper trailer that weighs over 4000 pounds loaded. As we were driving from Moab to Escalante, my dash started reading that something was wrong with the suspension. What the heck? I called my awesome service guy back home (in CT!) and told him what was going on. He gave me some information and recommended I seek out a small, local garage, but to be weary about "dealing with questionable service garages." I checked out my options (um, one!) and braced myself to be sadly disappointed/ripped off as a solo woman with 3 kids, CT plates, and nowhere else to go but there. I could not have been more wrong! It took 3 mechanics, all collaborating throughout the time, to comb over the entire truck. In the end (a couple of hours), it turned out to not be the suspension at all (phew!), but something that could have been a much bigger problem further down the road. An electrical harness was not properly mounted, and it was rubbing on a sharp part of metal framing (poor design Chevy!). The metal frame had started to cut through some of the wires which resulted in the incorrect error being triggered. They fixed the wires, fixed the sharp metal so it didn't happen again, and they did it all in one day for an amazingly fair price. I was over the moon pleased with how great our experience was! I'm glad to see all the other 5 star reviews - Cottam's deserves every one of those! read more

Chiming in with another 5 star review for Cottam's. They're WONDERFUL. I was part of the Monday morning line yesterday with two blown tires, and it was a great experience. I watched while they moved at warp speed and treated everyone fairly and graciously. Of course they can't have every part for every car in stock, and there's no same-day delivery in Escalante, so be realistic. But also be confident that you're in incredibly knowledgeable, skilled hands. Expect to be impressed and see your car problem dealt with in the best practical way. read more

It can be a nightmare when something goes wrong with your vehicle when you're out in the middle of "nowhere"...no cell service, no wifi, no idea what to do or where to go. Our Jeep developed a really bad drive line squeal while we were on the back roads searching for slot canyons near Kodachrome State Park. Thankfully, the ranger at the Grand Staircase Escalante Visitors Center in Cannonville steered us in the right direction and sent us to Cottam's in Escalante. For a moment we envisioned that National Lampoons Vacation scene when the ONLY repair shop in the area kinda has you (the desperate tourist) over a barrel and can charge whatever they want (how much is the repair? How much you got in your wallet?) . I mean, where else are you going to go?? But, not only were the gentlemen at Cottam's professional, they were also fair and upfront with their prices. We did have to wait a few days for them to get the needed parts in for our Jeep (a couple of u-joints and a center bearing) but that was expected. Once the parts arrived they had our Jeep repaired in no time...squeal gone and the price...well, let me tell you, we would have paid 2-3 times as much where we're from. No one likes vehicle issues but if you happen to need them Cottam's Phillips 66 is a trust-worthy and fair place to go. read more

Cottam's is Amazing. Sam is also amazing! The customer service was shocking! We were in dire need of our Jeep being repaired.... They could have charged us whatever they wanted and we would have paid - instead they did our work quickly and at a very fair price. We even got a ride to and from our hotel (that we were stranded at instead of camping like we had planned). This is a tire and repair shop located behind the 66 gas station with Subway in town. They are the nicest people I have ever met. We got a flat on Hole in the Rock Road after dark, no spare (damn you Hyundai) Friday night (of course, Murphys law). They came out to help us, even though they were closed. They charged a very reasonable fee. They found a match for our weird size low profile tire. They did not take advantage of us! Genuinely nice people. We had hitched a ride into town, to the store in front, and the nice lady at the counter helped us get in touch with Ryan from the tire shop. Oh yes because of course we had no cell signal either! Thanks to the other reviewers here on Yelp my wife and I made the right choice. We had just made it to the town of Escalante late Friday night when we noticed a very faint sound of metal rubbing. Thinking it was just break pad wear with sand from the off road driving I didn't think to much of it. About 50 miles into the next days adventure it was painfully obvious that wasn't it. We were losing a wheel bearing. Crap! It's a Saturday and the ONLY auto place in miles of where we were was closed until Monday. Our lodging was 50 miles to the east and the largest town that we thought would have a repair shop capable of dealing with our LR3 was Cedar City about 80 miles to the west. Fortunately, we had cell service and searching for a repair shop we came across the yelp reviews for Cottam's Phillips 66 back in Escalante. Not sure what was the best option was, try to make it to the larger city where there were several garages or go back to a very small (less than 800 pop.) town with one auto shop, we headed back there based on the reviews. Monday morning I was there at 8 am to find a line of people ahead of me. I learned while standing in line that one of the repair techs was out sick putting the shop even further behind, all-the-while I was wondering how long we'd be stranded in Escalante. Once I explained my situation and the owner came out to check the wheel and confirmed it was a bad bearing. I was told that to get the part from Salt City it would take at least a day. One day? I was THRILLED to learn there there was, in fact, even one available. Tuesday morning the part was in and the repairs finished by 10:00 am. The price was half of what I had feared it would be. Cottam's had also, at no charge, turned the rotor that was damaged. Wow! Thanks Cottam's! We were soon on our way with no further troubles. If as Lynn B. said, if you find yourself in the "Middle of nowhere" with car troubles and you can get to Cottam's Phillips 66, you'll find a trust worthy and add I'll add more than fair priced service available. read more

We were on a trip out in Utah to see several national parks. About 5 miles beyond Escalante, we got a flat tire in our rental car - not a great thing when you are on the other side of the country. This auto shop was the closest and located right in Escalante. The guys here were wonderful. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. Scott and Jeff were the two men we worked with. They patched our tire carefully and professionally, checked other previous plugs (since it was a rental, there had apparently been repairs before on that tire) and gave us piece of mind. Jeff explained how the patch would work and what he was doing step by step. After it was fixed, they even offerred us some local things to see on our trip. My car overheated on the pass on the way from Tropic to Escalante on a Friday, and I was worried about having to spend an arm and a leg as well as several days to get things fixed, but these guys took care of things quickly and reasonably. Even though it was after one on a Friday (they don't currently work on Saturdays) my car was back on the road the same day. Granted, my problem wasn't a major one, but thanks to Cottam's, my vacation was able to continue without interruption. read more

This repair shop did a wonderful job and saved our bacon when we realized half way down hole-in-the-rock road my rear axle spring hanger had completed ripped off the frame on our travel trailer. I was able to limp my way back to Escalante, however there was no way we could make it all the way home. Cottom's was highly recommended by the gas station attendant for a weld repair. Boy I was not disappointed! Not only did they drop everything that they were doing, 2 guys came out and immediately started to jack up the trailer and get it repaired. Not only were they very very nice and attentive but the weld work was done very well (they know what they're doing). And the cost was more than fair! I really should've bought these guys lunch for the time they spent and the little it cost. Any other city would've been 3 times that much! Less than an hour later we were back on the road with a sure peace of mind from the repair and my wallet! Wonderful gents and a wonderful town! read more
