I have taken my vehicles here for many years and the guys have always done an outstanding job. Once I had a issue after the vehicle was repaired but I believe no fault of the guys at Cottman Transmission and they immediately repaired the car again even though they could not find the issue I was having. I took my vehicle to them and they were nice. When I asked for my old parts, they gave me parts for a vehicle that had burnt clutches. Also they parked a truck with a Confederate license plate in front. I wouldn't advise anyone to do business with them. Not because of the truck, because they lied and charged me for a transmission rebuild and never removed my transmission. These guys kicked some tail. I went in there prepared to get rid of my car. It's getting up there in miles, but it's been a good car and I'll fess up to having a bit of sentimental value. At the same time, there's a point when ya have to cut ties if the issues are too much. My car went into reverse, but not any forward gear. I went on the internet and looked at the various fixes were when other people's vehicles did the same thing. The most common reply was they needed a new transmission. That wasn't going to be an option with my car. There was another $800 option, (forgetting what it was- not mechanically inclined- something with the solenoid though), and then a prayer option. In my mind, my absolute max amount was $700. I wanted $500 or less, but I was willing to give up until $700. At $701, time for a new car. They found it was an oil pipe feed that had snapped. Cost was $355. They finished in a couple of hours. I brought it in Fri afternoon, was expecting if they could even fix it for what I was willing to spend it would be Saturday at the earliest. Obviously no one likes spending $$ at a repair shop. All things considered though, factoring in that a car break down blows chunks- this was a good experience. I'm not sure who actually fixed the car, but Andrew is who I dealt with at the counter. Thanks to him and the mechanics in the garage. read more

This is the ONLY place, I trust with my vehicles. I have a couple of foreign luxury cars and they have saved me so much money versus what I would have paid at the dealership for the same services. I Can't say enough positive things. They are professional, knowledgeable and communication has always been amazing. One of the things that I really like about Cottman is their integrity and fairness. In from out of town and I experienced a leak on an already repaired brake line from another shop. Cottman found a loose break line connection and tighten up the flare. The repair was minor so there was no charge. This is a stand-up shop and will recommend it to all my local family and friends! read more

Update: The owner of the shop had actually replied to my feedback on Yelp two years ago and I had just missed it. I contacted him a couple of days ago and he expressed deep regrets about the situation and offered to provide me with partial refund or free auto service, even though this incident dates back several years. I had not actually requested it and am not requiring it. I find this action on the part of the owner quite responsive and professional. He now has my support. read more

this place was great fast and friendly. I had just bought my daughters first car and took it to the shop as we noticed something was going on with transmission. took it to a place up the road from Cottman's and they told me it needed a new gasket on the transmission pan and wanted $650. they also recommended i just get a new transmission and wanted to charge me 4200 for it. I decided to get a second opinion and was thrilled i did. Cottman's looked at it said they seen this a million time and it was an easy fix. Long story short 165 bucks later my daughters cars back on the road and running great. If ya have a transmission problem I would high recommend you take you car to these guys. read more

My over all experience here was a total nightmare! I wouldn't recommended this place to anyone. I gave it a one star because they wouldn't let finish the review without selecting a star rating. I would definitely have given it zero stars. Fair prices, not here. Over $900 more for the same services at other shops in the area. Good customer service, not here either. Today my wife and I were traveling to the other side of the state to deliver my kids to their grandparents house when we began to have break trouble. We found this place through Yelp and called to ask if they could look at it. They informed me that they were way overbooked - their lot was designed to hold 17 cars and through creative parking they were squeezing 40 into the lot. However the manager said that he understood the pickle I was in traveling away from home and he would squeeze in a brake diagnostic. I was up front with him and told him that while i was willing to pay, I couldn't leave the car there. He told me the diagnostic was free and he knew we wouldn't be making a penny from me, but didn't want me driving with kids in a vehicle that might have leaky breaks. After the inspection, he told me that my brake master cylinder was leaking and to drive carefully straight home. I offered to throw some money his way as a thank you but he politely insisted that the repair was 'paid in full' and wished me a blessed day. He was honest and went above and beyond to help a family in distress without taking advantage of their plight. I wish six stars was an option for rating this business! read more

I am very pleased with the service I got at Cottman Transmission. I was referred to Cottman Transmission by Muffler Man on Corunna Rd. The guys there said they couldn't repair the car but Cottman might be able to. I called on a Monday afternoon and gave them the codes for my 2006 Civic. He checked them and felt they could do the repair on the third gear solenoid without having to open the transmission. I dropped off the car that night and on Tuesday they called and gave me an estimate.The estimate was reasonable and they said the parts would be in Wednesday or Thursday. I picked up the car Friday night and the mechanic said 75% of the time this sort of problem can be repaired and the car will have no more problems. But 25% of the time transmission trouble will develop. I've driven the car for 2500 miles with no problems. I was hoping to get my car back sooner but I think they did everything they could. They were very professional in keeping me informed, and the key drop service for after hours was very convenient. read more

Very disappointed in the repairs, or lack thereof, I received. After having my transmission fixed there, I had two more visits, within 6 months, because it was still not fixed correctly. Finally, after the third visit and having my transmission go out on the expressway, I gave up and bought a new car. Thousands of dollars in repairs only to have the same problem occur time and time again. Although they are very nice guys, it unfortunately doesn't cut it when it comes to transmission repair. read more

On Tuesday, June 18th, 2013, I was on my way back from St. Ignace, MI, to my home in Virginia in an attempt to bring my parents' truck in advance of their official move back to Virginia. On the highway as I was traveling through Flint, MI, the check engine light started to flash on the dashboard and the truck's engine began to show signs of considerable misfiring. I immediately had to pull over at the next exit. After a short Internet search on my phone, I found this repair center and was able to drive the truck. In no time, the manager, Rob, looked at my engine, hooked up the diagnostic tool, and was able to confirm the misfiring of my cylinders. He then proceeded to move the vehicle into the shop and the mechanic quickly determined that there was a problem with my distributor cap and rotor. Within minutes, Rob was on the phone with a local parts dealer and was able to get them to deliver the parts that I needed for my vehicle. In only 35-40 minutes since I arrived at the center, the truck was fixed and I was able to return to my highway travel back to Virginia with no more engine problems. I was truly impressed with the professionalism and honesty that Rob and his crew showed me. He could have easily taken advantage of me by giving me additional charges that were unnecessary especially considering I was caught in a bind, but yet he treated me with class and respect. I would highly recommend this center to anyone who is in need of car repair whether it is a transmission or general engine repair. They will treat you right.
