Coughran Hall was perfect for our wedding. The rustic, country atmosphere in the historic building with the wedding outside was exactly what we wanted. We used the halls coordinator as our day of wedding coordinator, Wendy, who made our whole experience so much easier. She had everything under control so we didn't have to worry and were able to just have fun. She also arranged for the catering and the DJ, both were great. We held our 35th wedding anniversary party there and Eddie Burrows (owner) was so nice to work with. He was patiient in showing me the halll and where "breakers and switches" were. We were able to bring in our own caterer our own alcohol, etc. the hall a/c works great (too cold at times) and its rustic charm is perfect for a country family with kids or a gal from the city looking for "shabby chic!" My husband and I just had our wedding at this Venue. Let me just say that when we first signed the contract for this venue we expressed concerns about a few minute things (which we were assured would be taken care of), One being the stray dog issue. So six months later we arrive at the hall to start the rehearsal dinner and there are stray dogs wondering around. While in the hall decorating one of the strays runs through the door, goes straight up to my one year old son and LICKED him in the mouth, another time a stray dog caught a rooster and killed it in front of the hall in front of my guest. Then in the back of the hall were the ceremony took place, let me just say if you are afraid of wasps or bees then this def. is not the place for you. That issue in its self raised a huge safety concern for myself, guests and children present. Then once the reception started the DJ was delayed 2 hours due to the breaker blowing which fried two of his amps (luckily a relative of his lived close by and brought speakers or we would of had no music). We also rented the bridal suite for my bridesmaids and I to stay in the night before the wedding and to get ready the next day. Now keep in mind we rented the house to stay in overnight. We walked into the house and immediately see wasps flying around and dead bugs on the floor , so needless to say we went to a hotel. Then day of the wedding we only used the house for approx. 20 minutes, which was enough time for us to put our dresses on and walk over to the hall. The 20 minutes we were in the house we had to kill three wasps, which the preacher did for us and in that process one of my bridesmaids got sprayed with the raid. Then came the time for me to put my wedding dress on , and after putting it on I walk about 2 feet and my maid of honor had to stop and pick dead wasps and a dead roach off of my wedding dress. Don't get me wrong people I get things happen at wedding but my husband and I both felt that these issues could of been PREVENTED. So wedding complete, and we text the owner of the hall to see when we would get our deposit back and we also informed us of all the issues we had. She delayed in responding to us, then pushed out meeting back a whole week. When we finally met to discuss issues, she was argumentative and combative. She attempted to tell myself and my husband that the wasps and hornets that we saw , the nest of wasps that my brother and to spray for the day of the wedding were DIRT DOBBERS (which those still sting), and she off course was wrong because I have all of my guest and my husband and myself to attest to what I saw. She had the audacity to say that she has been out there and had not seen ONE! Then she followed up with stray dog issue stating that she could not do anything about that and that it was a constant issue, however three of the dogs were the same dogs that had been out there 6 months prior, when they stated that they would fix the problem. I asked why she could call the pound? Her response...They don't come out here. I asked why could you just catch them and kennel them for the day? Her response ...nothing. Regarding the house that we rented , she stated she had it exterminated the week of the wedding and she cleaned it the Friday that we went into the house and saw all of the live wasps and dead bugs on the floor, she followed that statement up with an eye roll and her pretty much insinuating that I was lying. Her response to the breaker blowing , was that they have never had that problem, however I knew that the electrical was a possible issue but she assured me six months prior that they have the electrical checked regularly. She then tried to stated that she did not feel that she should refund at least the money for the house we used for approx. 20 min , because the house smelt like perfume and we used a pair of sewing scissors to cut something of my dress, also she found beer bottles in the trash, yes people she went through our trash!!!!! , but we only bought can bear bottles so feel like that was a ploy to get us to stop arguing. All she kept saying was that she understood , but that she did this and she did that, but everything she stated she did shows no proof to that fact that is was done because if it had been done then we wouldn't of had the issues. My husband and I repeatedly stated to her if issues occurred that were out of her control then we would of understood, but all of our issues could of easily been prevented. So, after approx. 45 minutes of arguing, her insulting me regarding my son, and me leaving the situation due to my anger she refunded us the money for the house we used for 20 minutes. This was my wedding day (can't redue) and everything that occurred was highly embarrassing to my husband and myself, and I don't feel like the owners understand what owning a wedding venue entails . So I urge anyone considering this venue to reconsider before your wedding day is ruined. read more
