We arrived around 2pm and it wasn't too busy. Parking was free. The admission price was $30 for adults. Kids 2 and under are free, discount if you purchase online. We thought it was a good value as my son could ride the rides unlimited. He loved the slide and unicorn rides. He was too small for most of them unfortunately. There was a wizard of Oz show and he loved that as well. The food was better than expected. When we left around 4pm there wasn't a wait for any of the rides or picture spots. We will be coming here regularly.

I flew out from California to visit family, so I don't know if this is the first year they charged a flat entrance fee or not, but what a great idea. $24.95 and free rides with no tickets. So smart. Plenty of food and drink trucks with lots of variety. Lots of porta potties. A petting zoo with cups of food you can buy. A free hayride. A little gift shop. Something for everyone! Super inexpensive fun for the whole family!

The staff was pretty nice too. There's many things to do like a swing ride, petting zoo, and hayride -- all very fun. I will say, $40 per person is pretty steep for a pumpkin patch. While I had a good time, I kinda had to force myself to do everything to feel like it was worth that much money. Overall, I'd go back, though.

After spending an hour and a half in blistering heat, I was only able to fill about one-quarter of the container because there were virtually no strawberries available. Everyone picking alongside us seemed equally disappointed and frustrated that containers were being sold despite the lack of fruit in the fields. What made the experience even more frustrating was the no-refund policy, which meant we were out the money regardless of the poor conditions. I understand that crop availability can vary, but customers should be informed when fields are nearly picked over or offered a refund or alternative. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend this place to others.

Dollinger Family Farm checked all the boxes, so we gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did because we had a very positive experience. We arrived on a Saturday right when it opened to avoid crowds. There were others there, but distancing was so easy. There were signs everywhere about wearing a mask and there was also a hand-washing station. We noticed a lot of other farms that are an easy drive from like Chicago did not take this pandemic seriously at all, so we loved supporting a farm that did take it seriously. We looked a bit at the animals--so cute!--before heading over to look at the pumpkins (AKA the main event). They had a tractor set up with a bunch of assorted squash for the perfect photo op. Then, pumpkins were sorted into piles based on size with a sign with the price. For example, a pile with $8 pumpkins. I believe the most expensive were $12. We selected two $8 pumpkins that were huge! My only suggestion would be to actually label the pumpkins with prices. The people in front of us in line picked a pumpkin from the $9 pile, but the employee insisted that this was too big of a pumpkin to have come from that pile. She said sometimes customers move the pumpkins around. I don't blame the customers for being a little frustrated because they obviously picked their pumpkin with the price in mind. We were worried this might happen to us, but they did not question when we told them we picked $8 pumpkins. The service was excellent. An employee actually took our pumpkins and we could drive up to pick them up before leaving. It was so helpful not to have to carry these huge pumpkins over to the car ourselves. We will definitely be back next year!

We ended up picking up another five pound box to go so we didn't feel too badly when we ate half of the berries we picked on the ride back to Chicago. After visiting friends in La Porte, we wanted to stop into Garwoods on the way back to Chicago, but…read morethey have limited hours during the winter months. So that dashed that plan. We found that Remus Farms was open and on our route home to Chicago, so that is why we stopped. Upon arriving, we saw that they have been open since 1932, and we love to see a business survive for so long. Outside there were huge bins of pumpkins, squash and gourds. It had been extremely cold the week before, so they had all froze. And sadly, now that they were thawed, they were soft and moldy. They should have been tossed instead of left out for customer to see. Inside, there was a huge area of produce, baked goods, jams, jellies, salsas and other farmer's market canned products. In another room, they had evergreen boughs that they were making into wreaths, swags, and grave blankets. Since we visited during December, we assumed that most of the produce came from somewhere else, and was not "farm fresh." But everything looked okay. There was a plentiful array of canned goods, but all of them had a layer of dust, and looked like they had been sitting undisturbed for a long time. Most of products still had a good expiration date, but the dust did not make them look appetizing. If I recall, the retail area has a dirt floor, and that may account for the dust. But they should have their employees use a feather duster to keep the cans clean. There were plenty of baked goods, too--pies, breads, muffins, etc. But a lot of them looked like they had been sitting for awhile, and without an expiration date, they looked suspect. We took a pass. We did find a big, lovely evergreen swag for $20, and we bought a bag full of small gourds that were priced at $1 apiece. We also bought off Remus-branded cherry salsa, and it was really delicious. I cannot comment on the nursery area because most of it was closed for the winter. I applaud Remus for being open for over 90 years, and there are a lot of good things to say about this place, but they would do well to tidy up. I am sure that it would help their business, and make their product more appealing to their customers.

We guess that Homewood - which has a lot of activities and street fairs during the year - hasn't had one in over a year and is just now getting back into the swing. This Homewood Artisan Market seems to be their first post-pandemic event. The Artisan Market is located just a short walk from downtown Homewood and the Illinois Central trains - at Martin Avenue and Hickory Road. There was loads of available street parking and city parking lots. The Market is only on this Friday June 4 (Noon to 6 pm) and Saturday June 5 (10 am to 6 pm). We stopped in right after it opened, and there were between 30 and 50 booths already set up and it looked liked the Market was going to be a big success. The Homewood Artisan Market is free and open to the public, has a nice attention to pandemic safety issues, has good security, and wide open streets to browse the booths. They also had a very big booth with good street food and a broad tented area with picnic tables for sitting down to eat. Since the Artisan Market is set up on a sort of cross-shaped area formed by Martin and Hickory, we include four views of the booths corresponding to the four areas of the cross. Once again, since a picture is worth a thousand words, here are a few thousand words ... . Highly recommended.
