The vibe here is relaxed -- not rigid or elitist -- but communication can be casual. Photo updates are rare, pickup/drop-off windows are broad, and van rides involve crating (tough for crate-averse dogs like Henry). Still, I love this place for the joy it brings Henry. I boarded two dogs with Country Dog Ranch for 4 nights DESPITE the bad reviews on Yelp. I was referred here by a lady I met at the dog park who gave them rave reviews, said it was some resort like experience for the dogs where they can roam on a ranch that's like 4 acres of space and play with dogs. She also mentioned the 4.8 star reviews off Google. I thought the Yelp reviews were outdated. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't stellar. Be weary and listen to the Yelp reviews. At first, I was glad the owner, Dominique, accepted my 17 pound Pomsky who was not neutered. Most daycares don't accept intact dogs. He didn't ask too many questions and just trusted that my dog would be well behaved, which I found surprising. My dog is indeed well behaved and well trained but it's weird he just trusted me since there are lots of irresponsible dog owners. It would be fair to assume I wasn't responsible since I didn't even neuter my dog. In the same vein, Dominque was not very proactive in explaining protocol or giving updates. I had to micromanage and reach out first for every detail, even for logistics like pick up and drop off time, feeding, where the dogs were kept at night, etc. I can't imagine sending a special needs dog like one that needed medication or was very old here! They seemed way too hands off and nonchalant and didn't ask for anything except vaccines. Dominque also said he would bombard me with videos but only sent them the first day. The third day (Saturday) I had asked for more videos but he just ignored my request and only said they were fine. On Sunday, I asked for more videos again and he said he would send them on Monday. That's crazy because Monday was when the dogs would be returned to me. He eventually sent some after I insisted on Sunday but didn't send anymore after. Since this was my first time using this service, I expected more updates! I didn't expect to have to pester for them. The lack of updates and proactiveness in making sure the important details were sorted out made me worried my dogs were not going to be given enough attention and barely watched. I didn't pay this much money to just stick them somewhere. I also put an AirTag on my dogs in case they got lost. I disclosed this to Dominique. I kept track of the dogs' positions throughout the day. The AirTags only updated 1-2 times a day. It seemed Dominique was the only one with an iPhone that pinged the AirTags and he was not on the ranch most of the day which would explain why he was not able to send videos to me. This was fine but I wish he was more proactive in having one of his helpers send videos or explained what's going on. Based on the GPS info from maps, it seems they have 2 fenced in small dog park like areas for the dogs to run around in, one with a pool and one next to the main house. The videos sent also confirms that. Looking at the areal views on Google maps, the areas are about 1/6-1/4 acres in size each. This is hardly lots of open space like you would think a ranch would provide. I don't even see why it matters these dogs are on a ranch in the middle of nowhere in hot 100 degree weather. They aren't really getting any more space than at a daycare. Basically, it's a doggy day care but with a pool and outside in the heat! There didn't seem to be any shelter or shade. My Pomsky doesn't even like water (he is a sled dog breed) but I think he had no choice but to stand in the pool because he was too hot. In one of the videos sent, he was even drinking the pool water. I was very worried the dogs would overheat and wish I had gotten more updates on whether they were kept cool, provided fresh water (didn't see any in the videos) or had a space to relax if they were over stimulated. I also never got any photos of the dogs sleeping so unsure where they actually slept. In one of the videos, you can see rows of crates in the house window but the owner had given me the impression they weren't kenneled. My dogs were returned to me with no injuries but they were ravenous! I had sent an extra pack of food to last an extra day and none were returned so it should have been all fed? My Pomsky with a sensitive stomach was also found to have some dried diarrhea on his fur which shouldn't happen if he ate his own food. I had asked Dominique whether they could feed frozen food that needed to be measured and defrosted and he said they could. However, given the lack of updates, the number of dogs involved, the dirty fur, and how hungry my dogs were when they returned, I feel suspect my dogs were fed properly. I paid $140/day for two dogs. For that amount of money, I think I would rather just hire a private sitter where my dogs can stay in a home or just use a regular daycare! This place is more expensive and doesn't pay enough attention to your dog. Daycares are also more responsive and not in the middle of nowhere so you can check out the facilities before you decide to leave the dogs. read more

You have a dog that is more like a son and daughter a true family member and you're tired of the horrible day care services in Los Angeles where they get only a tiny place to play and youngsters not really that engaged in the animals THEN look no further Dominique and Daria will care for your dog like their own. I have sent my Hugo for the day, for multiple days staycation and for 3 weeks whilst I travel for about a year now. They label everything, they double check all meds and exactly like the food to be given and treats. They swim and play free off leash controlled by excellent dog language. Never had an issue and to boot they send videos and photos throughout the day. I couldn't recommend them enough I tell everyone I meet about this incredible place. My boy races off inside the property when he arrives he's so excited. Dominique will pick up your dog and drop back home or you can drive your dog yourself to Santa Clarita. I was looking for a place outside of town for my anxious dog to go for the Fourth of July timeframe. This place was recommended to me, so I reached out early, knowing that the Fourth of July time can be very difficult to find space for your dog at a reputable boarding location. I sent several emails inquiring about boarding. None were ever returned. I called once and the phone just rang, no voicemail ever picked up. Stellar service! My ex and I co-parent my 2 year old mix American bull dog named Prince Paul. I was looking for boarding while we both are working out of state and wanted a place w a pool and other dogs so I tried out CDR... what a game changer! I had a season of family deaths so I had to be away from him and all my training went out the door when he stays w my ex. He has boarded at his trainer's home and while she'll take him to her work where she mostly trains Corsicas and other dogs for bite work; I wanted him to be off leashed and free. We were both happy to see videos and photos when he was out and bout, it's a huge property which the dogs given their time get to explorer and be well mannered animals. CDR and Dominic gives extra attention to their visitors. It's the only place in LA we'll be sending our pup. This review comes highly recommended. read more

Let me begin by saying my Lab used to enjoy going here. He waited by the door and ran off with Dom. He picks up the dogs very late in the morning around 11am or later and drops them off sometimes around 8 or 9pm. Not convenient times. Anyways, My dog went a couple times a week for 6 months. My dog always was dying of thirst as soon as he came home. Almost like no water was available at times. One day he came to pick him up and he ran into his crate and wouldn't come out. I made him go anyways. Again, he came home dying of thirst. Next time he came to pick him up my dog ran on the couch and refused to move. This once happy dog who loved going to Country Dog Ranch did NOT want to go any longer. Dom says nothing happened but my dog is incredibly smart and twice didn't want to go with a guy he used to love going with. Something happened 100%. To this day, I have no idea what happened but my dog will never return there. He did send me a couple videos of him swimming and it wasn't in real time. Beautiful pool and my Lab enjoyed the pool. I also was never allowed to come and see the ranch. Kinda strange. Anyways, I would be leary sending your dog there. read more

My dog loves this place! He always gets excited to go because he gets to run around freely and go in the pool. It's not like any other boarding facility where he's stuck in a kennel other than every few hours to be let out to go to the bathroom. It feels like he's truly on vacation. Also the videos we receive with updates helps a lot to put our mind at ease that he's being taken care of. Also it's a huge plus that he gets picked up and dropped off right from our house. I've contemplated for years whether to write a review about my dog's stay here in 2016 and am finally writing a review with photos. I left my dog in the hands of Country Dog Ranch after they were recommended to me by a colleague. An outdoor space to freely roam and play all day, followed by a safe place to sleep at night sounded like the perfect set up for my dog for the weekend when I went out of town. When my dog was returned to me after two nights, he had matching cuts on his two front legs as well as a cut around his neck. When I asked upon drop off "how'd he do?" (I didn't notice the cuts until after the owner left) the response was "good, he didn't have to go in the crate at all." Seemed like an odd response to me given there was no conversation about him potentially being crated/the whole point of the ranch is for the dogs to have freedom and I was told they all slept in a common area. They also offered a camera of the pool area so you could check in on your pet (which sounded great) but not once did I see my dog on it. I later texted the owner to ask about the cuts and he said something along the lines of "most likely from being out in nature/playing with other dogs." In hindsight, I wish I asked more questions given the cut around his neck seemed more like the result of a collar/rope and in case the matching cuts on his front legs were the result of being crated. My dog was quiet and wouldn't come near me when he got home for the first day or two, which is nothing like him. He normally is a very happy dog and has always done fine during and after being boarded at other places. Given my dog's temperament upon returning from his stay here and the cuts he had, I'm assuming he had a bad experience. For these reasons, I recommend doing your research before choosing a boarding stay for your pet. read more

We just left our fur baby Mia here and we're so happy !!! She was well looked after and had a great time (as can be seen in video) We had previously left her elsewhere and while she was well cared for she was essentially locked in a cage and when first picked up she looked very lost....... we'll let me say that wasn't the case with County Dog Ranch, she had so much fun and we loved seeing the uploaded videos, pics etc She was picked up and dropped home and we couldn't be happier ! She was a bit afraid to swim but with each video I could see she was getting more adventurous, when she was dropped home she was exhausted from all the running around and playing. My family and I are obsessed with our Dog and nothing have me as much piece of mind as knowing she was being so well cared for, we hate leaving her at the best of times. To be clear, we never boarded our dog at Country Dog Ranch. We had one session with Dominique as a trainer, and that's what I'm reviewing here. Our dog has been aggressive with other dogs in the past, and that's what we were looking to address. Dominique said over the phone that he could likely "resolve it" within one session. I should have been suspicious or asked more questions about his training philosophy. It turned out it was very much of the "dominate your dog" type. He purposely let our dog pull to the end of the leash before yanking back as hard as possible (and he made sure we purchased a prong collar before the session for more impact). Our dog let out yelps in that session I'd never heard before and have never heard since. My understanding is this sort of "alpha" style thinking is outdated and likely to cause more issues in a dog. That night, my dog cowered from me when I entered a room, which I'd never seen him do before. We're continuing to work with our dog on his behavior, and fortunately we've found trainers knowledgeable enough to know how to address his issues without having to resort to this sort of dominance training. If anyone is uncertain about training methods, check with your vet or vet behaviorist before hiring a trainer. We're still regretting the session we did here. read more

Plus the dog swimming pools are one of a kind incredible experience and so much fun to watch. Dominique send us videos of our dog playing with all of the other guests. I feel terrible about this situation because I feel i betrayed my babies by leaving them under the care of people who Clearly should not be taking care of anyone's pets! Like many of you my dogs are exactly like my children and i dont expect them to be treated less than that specially for the amount of money I paid. I usually leave my babies with a relative pr a friend but they always feels sad and out of place and I always worry they will not get the attention they are used to so this time I decided to leave them at this place, where I thought they would have a blast amongst all those other dogs! Seemed like a fun place to be if I was a Labrador that loves a pool and the company of other dogs like my dog Chachi does! Long story short; she never had fun! Day one being there I contacted Domique to see how they were doing and he took his time to reply; then he said my dog "DOESNT LIKE THE POOL"!!! Really? Chachi lives in our pool, she makes us let her out just because she wants to go swimming! WTH? Day one! I was concerned, but I am thousands of miles away so I thought maybe she was being shy. New place ect. Read the text messages on the pictures and you'll know the story. My dog got injured. My vet says her paws got burned and infection was days old. The burns happened day one, Dominique still took her for runs on 110° weather on hot rocks and surfaces for the next 4 days until she could not walk anymore. P.S. if you read my messages you'll understand he didn't bother to check my dog EVER! Then he returned her to me injured and TORTURED from days upon days of walking on hot surface with injuries! How does he not see the dog is injured? Take her to the vet? Call me? Do something? He had my assistants number specifically for emergency!!!! Why did he let her suffer for 5 days? And drop her off and still charge me $500????. Read my messages to him and you'll understand. He doesn't pay attention to the dogs he cares for. 2 visits to the vet now $1877. I debated long and hard about whether I would leave this review. But, I don't want for someone to make the same mistake I did. I want to preface my comments with this: I have no idea whether this is common practice or whether it just happened to us. I also have no idea what happened that led to our dogs being returned in the condition they were returned in (because as you read below, all we received from this facility is edited video; no real time video, no time/date stamps, no "hey here's how your dog is doing/what you're dog is doing RIGHT NOW"). 1. Our dogs were returned with huge scars and open wounds. The scars my dogs had upon returning from this boarding facility were long (one longer than 6 inches) and wide, leading me to believe that these were once long, gaping wounds. We received no notification of these injuries, and thus, no option to request veterinary care. 2. Our dogs have personality changes upon return to our home. One of our very social dogs is hesitant to leave her kennel, and runs into her kennel whenever we put water or food down. This leads me to believe that there was a traumatic experience connected to obtaining food or water, and also leads me to believe that the assurances that each dog would be fed individually were false. 3. It is telling that there are no negative reviews on any social media not monitored/moderated by Country Dog Ranch (and that this Yelp page, where comments cannot be deleted, "unclaimed"). 4. There are numerous videos of dogs at this facility, and none of them depict the incident/incidents that produced huge scars on my dogs' neck and face, and legs. All we received were edited videos depicting happy dogs doing happy things. We were assured videos multiples times, and only received one batch of three videos on the dogs' 4th day at the "ranch". Overall, it seems that this is a large facility where dogs are left to their own devices and not supervised, wounds are not noticed/not treated. Dogs can behave as they would in the wild, which is not always a good thing. I don't think the owners are intentionally harming the dogs, but they aren't as attentive as I'd like them to be. I, of course, understand and accept the personal preferences of others, but I won't be taking my dogs back. read more

I've had nothing but great experiences with Dominique & Country Dog Ranch. My dog LOVES when the doggy bus pulls up. She is young and high energy, so this place is literal heaven for her. Any time I mention "country dog ranch" my dog smiles! I always recommend them to my friends and fellow dog owners, especially for larger, high energy breeds. I scheduled a first time boarding for my 1 year old Great Dane almost two weeks ahead of time. I wanted to stop by their place for a preview of the place but Dominique said they weren't offering that until a specific date after my boarding. On the day of pick up, they refused to take him when they found out he was barking, anxious, and unneutered (Great Danes shouldn't be neutered until they're two). Those restrictions are reasonable and I would have understood if Dominique had told me them when we first spoke. But he never previously mentioned any requirements of the dogs, sprung it all on me at the last minute, and left me stranded for an event I had planned. If there were restrictions on breed, temperament, or neuter status, that should have been mentioned during the first discussion. While I can't speak to the quality of dog care itself, I am incredibly disappointed at their lack of communication, professionalism, and preparedness when on-boarding a new dog. I would absolutely not recommend them if your dog is a Great Dane, anxious, barking, or unneutered. read more

Dude has been going here every Wednesday for over a year. He absolutely loves it. When he knows it's his day, he waits impatiently for Andre to come pick him up. At night when he returns, he's exhausted but happy. I love it because I can't get around as well as I used to for walking a big dog with lots of energy. This review is long over due,been taking my doggie Cuca to this place for over a year and I love it as well her. I just read a bad review and honestly I think that's not fair, accidentes can happens and I'm aware of that. Dominique is so nice and professional, Cuca my dog is my baby and she jumps right in to the van and never cry after he drops her, I leave her at Country Dog Ranch at least a week a month and I never had any incidents, this is one of the places that I can enjoy my vacation without been worry for my doggie. No five star given for customer service, that's for sure!!! After trying for two weeks to get ahold of someone by leaving messages and sending a email from there business site. I never received a call back. I tried again and finally I reached a live person!!! I greeted the person who answered, stating I would like to book a reservation to board my dog. I was rudely told "we are completely booked till mid Aug. I stated that was GrEAT NEWS!!!! That is the time frame I am looking for, THANKS!!! The guy then asked what type of dog did I own? I told him the mix breed I had and was then told Ooooo well we only take large dogs. What??? REALLY??? Thanks for nothing JeRk, maybe you should state that on your site and or voice mail messages. My 2yr old yellow lab has been going to CDR for daycare 2x week for about a yr -and my 12 yr old lab joins him when they board. They both love going to the ranch and it has been so good for my young guy to learn how to be part of a larger pack- we live in Hollywood so most of his interactions with dogs other than my other lab are on leash - he is a cautious little guy and has just blossomed thanks to the crew at CDR. Dominique has been taking my dogs for almost 10 years and I wouldn't board them anywhere else. He offers pickup and delivery to and from home and they have the best time in his amazing fenced-in 6 acre doggy wonderland. I feel it's the best way to let dogs be dogs, getting great exercise and stimulating socialization. I love that when I travel and they are boarded that there are no kennels needed and they all laze around the living room companionably, just as they would at home. He's the best. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dominique & Country Dog Ranch! Being a nurse & working 12 hour shifts, I was desperate to find a daycare for my 4-legged babies that would accommodate my early schedule. I was extremely fortunate to find Dominique & his doggy daycare. My babies love going and they get the socialization and interaction they need with the other dogs. At night, he drops them off at my doorstep! I couldn't feel more comfortable leaving them in his care. It is clearly evident that he loves what he does and takes it very seriously. My 2 boys Milo and Chance have been going to Country dog ranch for doggy day care for about a year now. They absolutely love it! They are 2 very active huskies who need and must have their daily exercise! They get so excited when Dominique comes to pick them up. They get in his van and never look back, I took it personally at first but it goes to show how comfortable and happy they are to go! It's pretty amazing as they come back totally exhausted! Kind of like the same feeling when your kids are so tired and they just "knock out" when they get home. They have also stayed their overnight. On their first overnight stay Dominique sent me videos of them as they settled in at night ( yes I am THAT mother ) they sleep in a large living room with access to a yard , no cages. We recently left our Maggie Bear here and we couldn't have been happier. We have boarded her at other locations but she is always put in a kennel. She is an Italian mastiff who weighs about 110lbs (small for the mastiff family) but she is two years old and has a ton of energy. I located Country Dog Ranch simply by seeing their van driving through SCV (good advertisement) and decided to take a tour. I wanted to stay here it was that awesome, especially the pool. Dominique was awesome with Maggie and gave us good pointers as well. Yes the location is off the beaten path but they do offer free pick up & drop off. My 3 dogs have been hiking and staying with Dominique for over 5 years now. I have 2 large (100 lbs +) and one small dog and they are like my kids (*you can ask my kids!). I have used several other dog walkers/hiking/boarding services in the past - but was never happy. I never trusted them 100%- but then my neighbor recommended Dominique at Country Dog Ranch- they had been using him for years for their dog. Since then, my dogs have been going out with Dominique several times a week and board with him whenever we go away. (We leave them with him for a month each summer. ) I know when they are with him that they are going to have a great time, swim, hike and play and most importantly- are SAFE. (*and are never in a crate!) We love that he posts pictures and videos on Facebook so i can see what they are doing daily and if i have any questions or want to check in- he is available 24/7. My dogs love him- I can tell his van is pulling up in front of my house by the way my dogs are freaking out- barking and wagging their tails and jumping at the door- they can't wait to go with him. They don't play in some gross dog park- they hike and play and SWIM in the "made for dog" pool. Its like Disneyland for dogs. I recommend him to all my friends- you really can't go wrong. read more
