What a great experience. Our rescue staffy if very timid and emotionally fragile (being the dog of retired people probably doesn't help). He has hated the two times we boarded him at other places so we limit our travel. He was immediately comfortable with Paul, the environment and the rest of the menagerie. Absolute horrific experience. My dog was with them for 7 weeks. The night before they bring him home I get an email that he has a double ear infection and a rash on his head which they had to shave. They said they noticed it while grooming him last night. He came home looking like he hadn't had a bath in 7 weeks and was completely neglected. He looks malnourished and is whimpering. My groomer just came and he said that my dog is unrecognizable, which is true. He had to shave him completely because his entire body is covered in rashes. My husband and I needed to "park" our little dogs for a few hours while we attended a Saturday afternoon event. For days I called groomers, pet stores, boarding places, dog walkers, day spas, pet sitters and more. No one could/would take them on a Saturday afternoon. Farmer Paul said he would accept the pups at his place - not a problem! YAY! Farmer Paul has rules to keep his place running in an orderly fashion. Made me wonder if he had a military background. When we arrived, Farmer Paul greeted us at the gate with a warm welcome. The dogs didn't even utter the slightest bark when they met him. When we returned to fetch the pups after a few hours, they did not seem anxious to leave. They seem to have grown fond of Farmer Paul. Next time we are in that area we would definitely stop at Country Oaks - to board for a few hours or merely to give a hug to Famer Paul. read more

Paul has been accommodating, kind, and communicative with us both times that we've needed to use his services for our pup. Last time we boarded our dog everything seemed fine. My wife called ahead to pick up the dog, but when 'Farmer Paul' looked at the check we wrote him he told her we'd written the name of his business incorrectly. My wife offered to go home and write a new check (we live 5 minutes away), and he threw the check at her and told her our dog could no longer receive boarding with his business. This is without a doubt the most bizarre reaction I've ever heard about to an innocent mistake. Despite my repeated efforts to speak to him myself and explain the mistake, Farmer Paul refuses to speak to me. His business has the right to decide which dogs they will and won't board, but if you are thinking of boarding understand that his rules are arbitrary and subject to his mood. read more

After visiting the only boarding facility in our town of Ridgecrest , I was quite depressed as I needed a place to board our two Aussies . After searching on the Internet , I came across Farmer Paul's facility . He invited my husband and me ( along with our doggies) to take a tour of his kennel the following Saturday . We have boarded our two four-legged children at a great place in Maryland and we're hoping to find a similar kennel during our temporary stay at China Lake . I can honestly say Country Bed and Biscuit exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed meeting with Farmer Paul and our doggies thoroughly enjoyed their initial stay . He truly loves and understands the canine experience and we did not worry one moment while they were in his care . As this is a cage free boarding facility , Farmer Paul has to be a bit selective on the dogs he keeps . We were concerned that our two would not "play well " with others as they are rather standoffish but Boomer & Bella enjoyed playing with the other dogs and they loved being with Farmer Paul . I believe that all things happen for a reason, and this is the case with meeting Farmer Paul. I was working at Home Depot when I first encountered Farmer Paul and learned of his Dog Boarding and Day Care facility, Country Oaks Bed and Biscuit Inn. While I was not able to help him find the item he was looking for at Home Depot. I did have the opportunity to learn about his daycare which I needed for my newly acquired young puppies. At the time, my dogs, siblings, Labrador mixes were about six months old and terrible on a leash. Farmer Paul told me the rules of bringing the dogs to the Inn. While my first thought was that they seemed restrictive, I needed help and agreed to follow the rules. The rules are for the protection of the dogs, their owners, and the handlers. Do not expect to drop-in for multiple reasons. The first is to protect the dogs and their owners. My puppies came home from their first day of doggy daycare understanding how to walk on a leash! Something that I struggled to achieve. Farmer Paul taught me how to handle the dogs as well as working with the dogs. My puppies could not wait to go to Farmer Paul's. They would get so excited in the car that they would not sit down, and they bound out of the car when we arrive. What I get back are happy, tired puppies that sleep well. I have left my dogs with Farmer Paul to go on vacation for up to ten days. The dogs are so glad when I get home and are in good shape and are ready to go back to the Inn the next day to play. I moved away for seven months. Returning to Tehachapi to have my now 2-year-old dogs get very excited when we drove down the street towards Country Oaks Bed and Biscuit Inn. They could not wait to play at doggy daycare. We as humans must remember that dogs are pack animals, and sometimes, want to run with the pack, and will challenge each other. The dogs can run together under the watchful eye of Farmer Paul and be dogs, then come home to their human and be a lovable dog. It is the best of both worlds for the dogs and the humans A true testament to the care that the dogs receive, in my opinion, is how the dog responds upon arrival. If the dog does not want to get out of the car, I would be hesitant to leave my dogs with the handler. My dogs love going to the Inn. I appreciate Farmer Paul for helping me become a better dog mom. read more

We went to pick up our Dog upon arrival there was absolutely no supervision of the animals. No one was home, it is not as advertised dogs are caged not supervised, it looks like a junk yard. I have may pics that show dogs in cages when they are supposed to be out in the yard. My dog was no where to be seen. Apparently he was in the house which by the way he is suppose to be outside till it's time for bed. John will not let u tour the place, that's beacause if you did you would definitely not allow ur beloved pets to stay here. John was also upset I forgot to give him his hour phone call , I had no problem waiting for another hr since that was one of the rules. Come to find out the reason is so ur not there long enough to know how he runs this Buisness. Farmer john is false advertising and putting unsupervised animals in harm's way. Unless he Farms dirt there is basically nothing he can farm. PLEASE DONT ALLOW UR ANIMALS TO BE SUBJECTED TO THIS ENVIRONMENT. read more

Although I sat in the car with while my girlfriend and her family completed their transaction, it doesn't take a proctologist to determine an asshole when I see one. While you are entitled to whatever you wanted to say to them, to a point, you sir went above and beyond to make this transaction uncomfortable. I listened as you wanted an upfront payment, which I have no problem with, but for you to say "People die on vacation all the time" was inappropriate. You saw I had my family in the car which is a hell of a thing to say to someone preparing on an out of town trip. Karma is a mother fucker sir, and you have nothing coming. I would also suggest changing your hours on the internet page which you promote your business. While my animals might be welcomed in the future, rest assured sir, we will never return. Farmer Paul was very accommodating to our last minute request. He takes particular care to make sure that the dogs are safe, especially when they arrive since the location is close to a very busy road. I went to see the property and both it and the owner made a poor impression. The grounds consist of a small dirt backyard scattered with tree branches, and a house. The owner informed me that that prices would be beyond me, told me his clientele mostly comes from Hollywood and Beverly Hills, talked smack about his ex-wife (who also has a dog-boarding place) and gave me his card, with a leer. I saw him having the dogs run through a tree branch obstacle course in the bare dirt backyard. I cannot even imagine anyone paying $300 per night to board a dog at this place. read more

I would give -5 stars if I could. The worst encounter with a human being that I have ever had. I called in the morning but did not get an answer. Since it was next to the vet I decided to stop by and see if anyone was available. I parked, saw a closed sign but wanted to check my tires because I heard something hit it and wanted to be sure they were safe before driving home. As I was getting out I saw him (the owner, I now want to refer to him as jerk-face) came up to me and said "I'm eating my lunch".. I talked to him for a few minutes as he handed me his card. Then he preceded to tell me that it is by referral only and most of his clients are "movie stars" and such from hollywood. Okay... I continued to tell him I was sorry for interrupting his lunch and I would be on my way. He then asked me about my dog and what I needed and I said it would be a continuing twice a month. He asked why I don't go next door and I said because if I wanted her in a kennel all day I would leave her in her kennel at home. He then asked if I was okay with the prices, yes I'm okay with the prices or I wouldn't have stopped by to check the place out. Some dogs came out and my dog was very interested in seeing them and of course started "talking" to them from afar. He then asked me why I didn't turn her around so she couldn't see them and take control of her. I asked why... I mean seriously, she wasn't being aggressive and I like to socialize her with other dogs. She was staying on my lap and being perfectly fine. He then said "you should go next door". Really? You can't just say that he prefer people who make treat their animals like sh*t? He then CLOSED MY CARD DOOR ON ME forcing me to move my leg out of the way. As a business owner, I am appalled by his rudeness and lack of respect. Maybe I would have received different treatment if I pulled up in our other vehicle that is worth more than his house? .....since he seems to only care about people who have deep pockets and a status. read more

I have met two different "Farmer Pauls" on 2 different occasions. The first time we boarded our dogs, he was a big gentle bear of a man, jolly, accomodating, engaged with dogs, etc., and dogs came home happy. The second time, it was as if an alien had abducted him, and replaced him with an agitated, rude, angry, out-of-control, scary, yelling monster! After 1 weekend, my dogs came home afraid to approach their food bowls (they did not have any food aggression or eating issues before that, and are still afraid to approach bowls, 1-1/2 years later), too submissive, and definitely fearful (still) around large men. Maybe he forgot his meds? Maybe he boards helpless dogs because he can't function with people who can speak up? I have never seen anyone else assisting with the dogs, even though he said he always has additional staff, and I live in the area and drive by his property frequently. I was concerned to learn he does weekly "pick up runs" to L.A. to pick up/drop off dogs. Who is watching my dogs while he is off doing runs? I believe my dogs were put on the truck in cages to make the run with him the last day they stayed with him, and the truck didn't even return until 9 p.m. Bottom line...if Paul is abusive and out-of-control with paying human clients, how do you think he treats dogs with no one around to protect them?
