As we were preparing to leave for a trip to Italy this past Saturday, we received a call from the kennel caring for our dogs informing us that one of our dogs, Alfie, had escaped. What was most surprising was that the purpose of the call seemed to be asking whether Alfie had ever done something like this before. He hadn't. More importantly, one would reasonably expect a kennel to have secure fencing and proper access controls in place to prevent this type of situation from happening in the first place. Anyone who knows Alfie knows he's an incredibly sweet and adorable dog -- but he's certainly not some canine mastermind. He's no Steve McQueen in The Great Escape. The fact that he was able to get out raises serious concerns about the facility's security and procedures. It is now Monday evening, more than 48 hours later, and we still have not received a single call from the owner or management. I don't believe a single incident automatically means a business should be condemned. Mistakes can happen anywhere. But when a business fails to take ownership of a serious event after it occurs, that says a great deal about how they value accountability and customer trust. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience something similar.

Once I decided to utilize their services, Sitters4Critters were in constant communication with me finalizing all the arrangements. On the day of the transport, they confirmed they picked up the puppy and were waiting for my flight to arrive. They headed to the cell phone lot to walk him and try to feed him. I texted them when my flight landed and shortly afterwards met them and my new puppy! And the following morning they contacted me to ask how my flight home with the puppy went. We've had our dog here on at least three occasions while on vacation. He has gotten kennel cough every time even though he's vaccinated. The second time we opted to have him shampooed before we picked him up since it was a new service they were offering at the time. He was not clean but had a strong doggy deodorant sprayed on him. We decided we wouldn't pay for that again. Also, from this visit, a trip to the vet was necessary as he was not getting better from the Kennel Cough and had to be on antibiotics. This last time was enough for me to bring me to the point of this review. We went to the counter to pick up our dog. After trying to upsell us on a higher price package for our next booked stay, the man behind the desk told us that "he (our dog) has gotten himself into some mud" and that he needed to hose him off so he may be a little wet. Ok, fine. We thought this was strange because he was in an indoor kennel, and if taken out to go to the bathroom, he should have been accompanied. But we anxiously waited to see our pup. He came out and seemed ok but was ready to get out of there. We were not prepared for the odor that emanated from him when we got into the car. It smelled like he had rolled in dog poop and urine for the several days he was there. We rolled down the windows and it was so bad my stomach turned. It took us three baths to get that smell off!! So my question here is, was he taken out to use the bathroom or left to do his business in the crate?! We paid for four potty breaks. Then later that afternoon, he pooped and there was blood in his stool! Ok maybe from stress, so we didn't worry too much. Then later that night from 2:30 - 9:30 AM, our poor pup vomited more times than I can count! He was so dehydrated that he was shaking with every inhale he took. Needless to say, we canceled the upcoming dates we had booked in advance with Besa. I'm sick to my stomach that we paid $300 to have our dog not well taken care of and come home sick. And there you have it...An honest review. If anything, I hope that the owners read this and take heed of what these pup parents have to deal with when they come home and begin to clean up their act.
