I had the pleasure of working with The Muttley Cru, a dog training facility owned and operated by…read morethe incredibly talented Michele Weatherly. From the moment I walked through their doors, it was evident that this business is more than just a training center--it's a haven for dogs and their owners. Our journey began with our rescue dog, Cora, who came to us with a heartbreaking history. Before her training at The Muttley Cru, Cora had endured a challenging life. At just a year and a half old, Cora had been returned 2 times to the SPCA in less than a year, leaving her timid, anxious, and unsure of her surroundings. She had trouble trusting people, other dogs, and became food aggressive and dog reactive. This caused her to react to the other dogs in the house and ended up hurting one of our older dogs that required emergency care. These issues along with her not understanding basic commands made everyday interactions difficult. Many things went through my mind about what I should do. I knew she was smart and had potential, but I didn't know where to start. That's where Michele and her amazing team came in. From the very first session, Michele took the time to understand Cora's background and worked patiently to build her confidence. Michele is not only about teaching the dogs but also teaching the owners. She used multiple techniques, reward systems, and correction techniques to train Cora while also ensuring that Cora felt safe and supported throughout the process and us as the owners knew what was expected. It wasn't just about obedience; it was about helping Cora rediscover her joy and trust in people and dogs. Over the course of her training, Cora completed four levels of training with The Muttley Cru. Each level was a stepping stone in her journey, culminating in her earning the AKC Canine Good Citizen certification--a testament to her incredible progress. This certification wouldn't have been possible without the skillful guidance and unwavering encouragement of Michele and her team. Today, Cora is a completely transformed dog. She's not only well-behaved but also able to interact with the other dogs in our household in a safe and comfortable way. Watching her confidently play and socialize has been nothing short of heartwarming. I also want to give a big shout-out to the entire staff at The Muttley Cru. Every single team member was compassionate, professional, and dedicated to Cora's success. Their collaborative effort created a supportive environment that felt more like a family than a training facility. If you're looking for a dog trainer who combines professionalism, compassion, and a true passion for animals, I can't recommend The Muttley Cru enough. Thank you, Michele, and the entire team for giving Cora the second chance she deserved and for making such a positive impact on both of our lives!

I have a lot of pets and I was a little anxious to see if she could take on caring for all of them while I went away and she was so pleasant and eager to offer her services. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. At some point over the years, as the business grew, she started sending other pet sitters she hired to do the job I mistakenly assumed she was still doing. I realized there were always other sitters but initially she was the one caring for my cats who are now deceased. When we adopted 3 new ones almost 7 years ago, I had her come over to meet them so they would be somewhat familiar with her when she came back to pet sit. I don't know if she ever came back herself after that or if it was a different person who did the pet sitting from that point on. She should have told me then that there would be a different sitter going forward. Communication has become less effective, instructions not followed properly, and during the most recent hiring of their services, the water bowls were not cleaned or changed out in 9 days. They had been refilled with more water so they never ran out (I assume), but the bowls were slimy on the bottom with scum, and the water dirty with cat hair, litter, food, and other debris that inevitably collects in a water bowl. The instructions I'd left specifically mentioned changing out the water bowls for cleaning, which should be a no-brainer if your job is caring for pets. Furthermore, whoever my assigned sitter was for this job, lied on her status update on the final day and wrote, "....put down new bowls of water for them." If a pet sitter can't do something as simple as giving your cats fresh bowls of water and lies about it, what else did they lie about? This last experience, along with the owner's cavalier response, has resulted in the termination of a professional relationship of more than a decade, which is also upsetting. A different response with an offered solution may have salvaged the broken trust and relationship, but I guess she no longer needs or cares about my business.

As we were preparing to leave for a trip to Italy this past Saturday, we received a call from the kennel caring for our dogs informing us that one of our dogs, Alfie, had escaped. What was most surprising was that the purpose of the call seemed to be asking whether Alfie had ever done something like this before. He hadn't. More importantly, one would reasonably expect a kennel to have secure fencing and proper access controls in place to prevent this type of situation from happening in the first place. Anyone who knows Alfie knows he's an incredibly sweet and adorable dog -- but he's certainly not some canine mastermind. He's no Steve McQueen in The Great Escape. The fact that he was able to get out raises serious concerns about the facility's security and procedures. It is now Monday evening, more than 48 hours later, and we still have not received a single call from the owner or management. I don't believe a single incident automatically means a business should be condemned. Mistakes can happen anywhere. But when a business fails to take ownership of a serious event after it occurs, that says a great deal about how they value accountability and customer trust. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience something similar.
